Sampans

A low-poly Mekong-style wooden sampan floating on a patch of still river water: green-painted hull with an upswept bow and painted eyes, an arched woven canopy, coconuts and rice sacks in the well, a hanging lantern and a long sculling oar at the stern. It comes with a seamless 6 s loop where the boat bobs, the oar sculls on its pin and the lantern swings.

How it was made

The brief given to 1DesignTool's “3D object” template:

Sampans for the River Delta kit. Design it as one clear asset at believable real-world scale for that setting (state the size in metres in meta.notes), with its main parts modelled and named, readable at thumbnail size and from every orbit angle. It moves: author a seamless baked loop (2–12 s) with every pivot exactly at its hinge, axle or swivel, and keep the base still. This is one part of the River Delta kit (Low-poly style, flat-lowpoly direction): Stilt houses and floating trade. Use ONLY the kit palette, by name: muddy brown #43372d, palm green #3a883a, bright boat colours #b39d80, sky blue #2e67b8, muddy brown dark #15120e, palm green dark #235223, muddy brown light #6d5d50, palm green light #5db15d, soot black #1b1b22, warm white #f2ede2, mid grey #7d828c, dark wood #3d2a1c. Every material's `name` must be exactly the palette colour it uses — the GLB carries these names so the kit recolours as one; an unnamed material fails delivery. Kit knob: expose a param `waterLevel` (0–1, default 0.5) for the kit's "Water level" setting wherever it makes sense on this part, and keep that id.

Named parts · 7

  • Sampans
  • River water (still base)
  • Hull (heaves, pitches and rolls at its waterline centre)
  • Arched canopy
  • Lantern (swings on its hook)
  • Coconuts and rice sacks
  • Sculling oar (yaws and feathers on its pin)

Note: Size: a 6 m hull (about 6.75 m overall with the raked stem and stern), 1.5 m beam, 0.6 m deep amidships; the canopy crown is about 1.3 m above the waterline and the model is 1.77 m tall overall at the default water level. The boat floats on a still 3.2 × 8.8 m rounded patch of river water that rests on y = 0 (origin at its bottom centre, bow toward +Z); the boat sits 0.4 m forward of centre so the oar blade stays over the water. waterLevel (the kit's 'Water level') sets the water surface from 0.25 m to 0.65 m and the whole boat floats with it (default 0.45 m, matching the River Delta river tiles). hullLength scales the hull 5–7 m (the patch grows with it); canopyLength sets the canopy 1.4–2.6 m; cargo thins the coconut heap and removes the rice sacks below 0.35; scullSweep sets the oar's stroke. Params are baked into the GLB at their defaults. Animation: one seamless 6 s clip ('scene-motion') — the hull heaves ±2 cm and pitches/rolls under 1.2° about its waterline centre of flotation, the oar makes three sculling strokes (yaw about its thole pin plus blade feathering about the shaft, the pin top being its only pivot), and the lantern swings from its hook; the water patch never moves. The GLB has 3,172 triangles in 22 meshes; three-check's 3.5k figure includes the viewer's staging ground, which is not exported. Every material is named exactly after a kit palette colour (11 of the 12; palm green dark is unused); the exporter writes one material per mesh, so some names repeat — recolour by name. glb-lint reports 0 errors and only heuristic warnings (material count above the direction default, duplicate same-colour materials, non-indexed flat-shaded primitives, nested part boxes overlapping). plan-check rejects the hyphenated slug part ids the library mandates; a copy with the ids de-hyphenated passes, and three-check accepts the hyphenated ids.

About the Sampans 3D model

Sampans is a free animated low-poly 3D model from the River Delta set. It measures 3.2 m × 1.8 m × 8.8 m (W × H × D) at real-world scale and is built from 3,172 triangles across 22 meshes, with 7 named parts and a baked animation (6.0 s). Download the 338 KB GLB and drop it into three.js, React Three Fiber, Godot or Blender — free for commercial use, no attribution required.

Is the Sampans 3D model free for commercial use?
Yes. It is free under the 1DesignTool 3D library license: use it in personal and commercial work — games, apps, websites, renders, ads and client projects — and modify it as you like, with no credit required. What you can't do is re-sell or re-distribute the file on its own or inside a model pack.
What file format is it, and how big is it?
A single binary glTF 2.0 file (.glb), 338 KB: 3,172 triangles, 9,516 vertices and 22 materials, modelled in metres at 3.2 m × 1.8 m × 8.8 m.
Is Sampans animated?
Yes — the GLB carries a baked animation (6.0 s), ready to play with any glTF animation mixer.
Which engines and tools can open it?
Anything that reads glTF 2.0. three.js, React Three Fiber, Babylon.js, Godot 4 and Blender import the GLB directly; Unity and Unreal Engine load it through their glTF importers. The snippets above show the exact code for three.js, React Three Fiber, Godot and Blender.
How was the Sampans 3D model made?
Claude Code (Claude Opus 5.5) generated it inside 1DesignTool's 3D template from a written brief, then the design kit's checks verified the geometry and the GLB before it was published. You can make your own the same way with 1DesignTool.
