Fire flicker

A low-poly library hearth fire: a soot-black iron fire basket with brass ball finials and a raised fireback, holding a bed of glowing coals, split logs and a crown of faceted brass and mahogany flames. The flames flicker on a seamless 4-second loop while the basket stays still.

How it was made

The brief given to 1DesignTool's “3D object” template:

Fire flicker for the Library and Study kit. Design it as one clear asset at believable real-world scale for that setting (state the size in metres in meta.notes), with its main parts modelled and named, readable at thumbnail size and from every orbit angle. It moves: author a seamless baked loop (2–12 s) with every pivot exactly at its hinge, axle or swivel, and keep the base still. This is one part of the Library and Study kit (Low-poly style, flat-lowpoly direction): Tall shelves and a reading chair. Use ONLY the kit palette, by name: mahogany #602b20, forest green #3a883a, brass #b28c34, parchment #e6d6b3, mahogany dark #26110d, forest green dark #235223, mahogany light #944738, forest green light #5db15d, soot black #1b1b22, warm white #f2ede2, mid grey #7d828c, dark wood #3d2a1c. Every material's `name` must be exactly the palette colour it uses — the GLB carries these names so the kit recolours as one; an unnamed material fails delivery. Kit knob: expose a param `bookColours` (0–1, default 0.5) for the kit's "Book colours" setting wherever it makes sense on this part, and keep that id.

Note: Size: about 0.59 m wide × 0.36 m deep (x × z, fireback included) × 0.62 m tall (y) to the flame tip, sized to sit inside the kit's fireplace opening. The basket alone is 0.43 m tall at the fireback peak. The origin is at the bottom centre and only the four leg foot pads touch y = 0. The GLB has 1,552 triangles in 17 meshes and one 4 s loop clip, 'scene-motion'. Each flame part (main flame, core, five tongues) sways and stretches about its own root in the coal bed, using rotation plus a volume-preserving scale. Basket, fireback, trim, coals and logs are static. Because the export was taken after a seek, the static node pose in the GLB is the t = 2 s frame. 8 of the 12 kit colours are used: the forest greens and mid grey had no role on a fire. Every material is named exactly after its palette colour; the flame and ember materials have a mild emissive set to their own colour. The exporter writes one material per mesh, so names repeat; recolour by name. bookColours (the kit's 'Book colours') has no books to colour on this part, so it does the analogous job on the flames: it sets the share of flame tongues in the bright tone (brass) instead of the deep tone (mahogany light), and from 0.5 up the core turns from parchment to warm white. At 0 the fire is deep red; at 1 it is all brass. flameHeight scales the flame crown. flicker only scales the motion amplitude, and 0 gives still flames. logs (2 or 3) drops the top log. Params are baked into the GLB at their defaults and change the geometry only when the scene is rebuilt in the viewer. Only the defaults were rendered and checked. glb-lint reports 0 errors and 5 heuristic warnings: material count and exporter duplicates, non-indexed geometry (deliberate flat shading), overlapping coal meshes (one per colour in the same bed), and 'detached' flame, trim and fireback meshes (each is its own part, joined to the legs or rooted in the coals of another part). Its verdict reads UNVERIFIED only because no requirements contract was supplied. plan-check rejects only the hyphenated library part ids, because its regex allows no hyphen; the same plan passes with the slug de-hyphenated. Fix round 1 reduced the outward lean of the side tongues (they poked past the basket) and loosened the hero, side, front and back framing so the feet are not cropped. Viewer-only staging (ground, sun rig, exposure 0.62) is not in the GLB.

About the Fire flicker 3D model

Fire flicker is a free animated low-poly 3D model from the Library and Study set. It measures 60 cm × 62 cm × 37 cm (W × H × D) at real-world scale and is built from 1,552 triangles across 17 meshes, with 13 named parts and a baked animation (4.0 s). Download the 172 KB GLB and drop it into three.js, React Three Fiber, Godot or Blender — free for commercial use, no attribution required.

Is the Fire flicker 3D model free for commercial use?
Yes. It is free under the 1DesignTool 3D library license: use it in personal and commercial work — games, apps, websites, renders, ads and client projects — and modify it as you like, with no credit required. What you can't do is re-sell or re-distribute the file on its own or inside a model pack.
What file format is it, and how big is it?
A single binary glTF 2.0 file (.glb), 172 KB: 1,552 triangles, 4,656 vertices and 17 materials, modelled in metres at 60 cm × 62 cm × 37 cm.
Is Fire flicker animated?
Yes — the GLB carries a baked animation (4.0 s), ready to play with any glTF animation mixer.
Which engines and tools can open it?
Anything that reads glTF 2.0. three.js, React Three Fiber, Babylon.js, Godot 4 and Blender import the GLB directly; Unity and Unreal Engine load it through their glTF importers. The snippets above show the exact code for three.js, React Three Fiber, Godot and Blender.
How was the Fire flicker 3D model made?
Claude Code (Claude Opus 5.5) generated it inside 1DesignTool's 3D template from a written brief, then the design kit's checks verified the geometry and the GLB before it was published. You can make your own the same way with 1DesignTool.
