Secret bookcase door

A low-poly built-in library bookcase. Its middle section is a hidden door that swings out on brass hinges to reveal a dark passage, once a green trigger book has been tipped forward. The model comes with a seamless 8-second open-and-close loop.

How it was made

The brief given to 1DesignTool's “3D object” template:

Secret bookcase door for the Library and Study kit. Design it as one clear asset at believable real-world scale for that setting (state the size in metres in meta.notes), with its main parts modelled and named, readable at thumbnail size and from every orbit angle. It moves: author a seamless baked loop (2–12 s) with every pivot exactly at its hinge, axle or swivel, and keep the base still. This is one part of the Library and Study kit (Low-poly style, flat-lowpoly direction): Tall shelves and a reading chair. Use ONLY the kit palette, by name: mahogany #602b20, forest green #3a883a, brass #b28c34, parchment #e6d6b3, mahogany dark #26110d, forest green dark #235223, mahogany light #944738, forest green light #5db15d, soot black #1b1b22, warm white #f2ede2, mid grey #7d828c, dark wood #3d2a1c. Every material's `name` must be exactly the palette colour it uses — the GLB carries these names so the kit recolours as one; an unnamed material fails delivery. Kit knob: expose a param `bookColours` (0–1, default 0.5) for the kit's "Book colours" setting wherever it makes sense on this part, and keep that id.

Note: Size: 1.69 m wide, 2.4 m tall and 0.53 m deep when closed (the wall panel is 0.12 m thick and the bookcases are 0.36 m deep). The door leaf is 1.0 m wide and 2.25 m tall. At the default 50° the open leaf reaches about 0.77 m in front of the bookcases. The origin is at the bottom centre, the books face +Z and the model rests on y = 0. The model includes a short section of mahogany-dark wall with the doorway cut through it. A soot-black plate closes the back of the doorway, so the passage reads as darkness. It is a 12 cm recess, not a walk-through opening. The back of the wall carries simple panel frames. The GLB has 2,344 triangles in 42 meshes. three-check's figure is higher because it also counts the viewer's staging ground, which is not exported. Every material is named exactly after a kit palette colour. The exporter writes one material per mesh, so names repeat; recolour by name. Animation: one clip, scene-motion, 8 s and seamless, held open at t = 0. From 1.2 to 3.2 s the leaf closes. From 3.2 to 3.7 s the trigger book springs back. At 5.0 to 5.5 s the book tips forward, and from 5.5 to 7.5 s the leaf swings open again. All moves use smoothstep easing. The leaf group's pivot is exactly on the hinge axis, which is its front-left corner, and the trigger book's pivot is its bottom front edge. The wall, fixed bays, cornice and hinges never move. A 5 cm gap between the leaf's free edge and the right bay gives the leaf's back corner room to clear as it swings. Params are baked into the GLB at their defaults and only change the model when the scene is rebuilt in the viewer. bookColours (the kit's 'Book colours') sets the share of spines drawn from the bright kit colours instead of leather tones: 0 is all leather, 1 is about 60 % bright. The trigger book is always forest green. openAngle sets how far the loop opens the door, shelves sets 4 to 6 levels shared by all three bays so the shelf lines run unbroken across the door, and bookFill thins the rows. The book layout comes from a fixed seed, so it is deterministic. The max extreme (90°, 6 shelves, fill 1, colours 1) passed three-check at 3,130 triangles including the stage. glb-lint: 0 errors and 6 heuristic warnings: material count and exporter duplicates, non-indexed geometry (deliberate flat shading), overlapping sibling boxes (shelves between uprights), the hinges reported as detached, and a 2.4 m height against the direction's 1 m reference. Its verdict reads UNVERIFIED only because no requirements contract was supplied. plan-check rejects only the hyphenated library part ids, because its regex allows no hyphen; the same plan with the slug de-hyphenated passes. three-check and the GLB reload keep all 10 planned ids. Fix round 1 added the panelled wall back, narrowed the hinge leaves off the left bay's books, and turned the hero toward the front so the leaf's books show.

About the Secret bookcase door 3D model

Secret bookcase door is a free animated low-poly 3D model from the Library and Study set. It measures 1.7 m × 2.4 m × 1.0 m (W × H × D) at real-world scale and is built from 2,344 triangles across 42 meshes, with 10 named parts and a baked animation (8.0 s). Download the 215 KB GLB and drop it into three.js, React Three Fiber, Godot or Blender — free for commercial use, no attribution required.

Is the Secret bookcase door 3D model free for commercial use?
Yes. It is free under the 1DesignTool 3D library license: use it in personal and commercial work — games, apps, websites, renders, ads and client projects — and modify it as you like, with no credit required. What you can't do is re-sell or re-distribute the file on its own or inside a model pack.
What file format is it, and how big is it?
A single binary glTF 2.0 file (.glb), 215 KB: 2,344 triangles, 7,032 vertices and 42 materials, modelled in metres at 1.7 m × 2.4 m × 1.0 m.
Is Secret bookcase door animated?
Yes — the GLB carries a baked animation (8.0 s), ready to play with any glTF animation mixer.
Which engines and tools can open it?
Anything that reads glTF 2.0. three.js, React Three Fiber, Babylon.js, Godot 4 and Blender import the GLB directly; Unity and Unreal Engine load it through their glTF importers. The snippets above show the exact code for three.js, React Three Fiber, Godot and Blender.
How was the Secret bookcase door 3D model made?
Claude Code (Claude Opus 5.5) generated it inside 1DesignTool's 3D template from a written brief, then the design kit's checks verified the geometry and the GLB before it was published. You can make your own the same way with 1DesignTool.
