Gate

A low-poly painted picket garden gate between two timber posts, with black strap hinges, a thumb latch and a pink climbing rose on the latch post. A 1 m modular piece that snaps on a 1 m grid, with a baked loop of the latch lifting and the gate swinging open and shut.

How it was made

The brief given to 1DesignTool's “3D object” template:

Gate for the Garden and Patio kit. Design it as one clear asset at believable real-world scale for that setting (state the size in metres in meta.notes), with its main parts modelled and named, readable at thumbnail size and from every orbit angle. It is a modular piece that snaps on a 1 m grid: give it a length in whole metres and put the origin at its snapping end, stated in meta.notes. It moves: author a seamless baked loop (2–12 s) with every pivot exactly at its hinge, axle or swivel, and keep the base still. This is one part of the Garden and Patio kit (Low-poly style, flat-lowpoly direction): A back garden through the seasons. Use ONLY the kit palette, by name: grass green #3a883a, terracotta #be5937, wood #7d5736, flower pinks #e085a3, grass green dark #235223, terracotta dark #823d26, grass green light #5db15d, terracotta light #d08971, soot black #1b1b22, warm white #f2ede2, mid grey #7d828c, dark wood #3d2a1c. Every material's `name` must be exactly the palette colour it uses — the GLB carries these names so the kit recolours as one; an unnamed material fails delivery. Kit knob: expose a param `season` (0–1, default 0.5) for the kit's "Season" setting wherever it makes sense on this part, and keep that id.

  • Gate
  • Gate posts
  • Concrete sill
  • Gate leaf
  • Strap hinges & handle
  • Thumb latch
  • Climbing rose

Note: Size: 1 m long (hinge-post centre to latch-post centre; whole metres, 1 or 2 m via the length param), 1.24 m tall to the post caps, 0.1 m square posts. The leaf is 0.88 m wide and 1.0 m tall at the posts, rising 0.12 m in the middle. Origin and snapping end: the origin is the centre of the hinge post at ground level (y = 0). The piece runs along +X to x = length and the gate opens toward +Z. Both posts are modelled, so when you butt the gate against a fence run that has its own end post, drop one of the two coincident posts. The climbing rose grows on the outer (+X) side and back of the latch post, so it reaches about 0.17 m past x = length. Motion: one 6 s seamless clip ('scene-motion'). The thumb latch lifts on its swivel pin (an axis normal to the leaf), the leaf swings open 80° about the vertical hinge-pin axis on the pintles, holds, swings shut, and the latch drops into its keeper. The leaf node's origin is exactly on the hinge-pin axis and the latch node's origin is exactly on its swivel pin, so both can be re-posed in an engine. Posts, sill and rose never move. The GLB's rest pose is the t = 0 frame, with the gate about 40° ajar. The GLB has 1,572 triangles in 11 meshes. Every material is named exactly after a kit palette colour, so recolour by name. Only the colours used at the default season are in the GLB. season (the kit's 'Season': 0 = early spring, 0.5 = high summer, 1 = late autumn) changes the rose: how high it has climbed, its leaf colour (light green → green → russet/terracotta) and its blooms (pink and a few white at summer, hips in late autumn). Params are baked into the GLB at their defaults; they change the geometry only when the scene is rebuilt in the viewer. length 2 builds a pair of leaves hung from both posts, with the latch on the left leaf and its keeper on the right leaf; the second leaf adds the parts .leaf_right and .leaf_right_ironwork. The defaults pass three-check, and so does the opposite extreme (length 2, height 1.6, arch 0.25, swing 100°, season 1), where the open hero view crops slightly at the bottom. glb-lint: 0 errors. Its warnings are expected: 'detached' flags the leaf, ironwork and latch, which hang on the hinge pins with a 7.5 cm ground clearance; sibling overlap is the rose clumps, which overlap one another; the meshes are non-indexed because of the flat shading. plan-check rejects only the hyphenated library part ids (its regex allows no hyphen); the same plan with the slug de-hyphenated passes.

About the Gate 3D model

Gate is a free animated low-poly 3D model from the Garden and Patio set. It measures 1.2 m × 1.2 m × 1.1 m (W × H × D) at real-world scale and is built from 1,572 triangles across 11 meshes, with 7 named parts and a baked animation (6.0 s). Download the 132 KB GLB and drop it into three.js, React Three Fiber, Godot or Blender — free for commercial use, no attribution required.

Is the Gate 3D model free for commercial use?
Yes. It is free under the 1DesignTool 3D library license: use it in personal and commercial work — games, apps, websites, renders, ads and client projects — and modify it as you like, with no credit required. What you can't do is re-sell or re-distribute the file on its own or inside a model pack.
What file format is it, and how big is it?
A single binary glTF 2.0 file (.glb), 132 KB: 1,572 triangles, 4,716 vertices and 11 materials, modelled in metres at 1.2 m × 1.2 m × 1.1 m.
Is Gate animated?
Yes — the GLB carries a baked animation (6.0 s), ready to play with any glTF animation mixer.
Which engines and tools can open it?
Anything that reads glTF 2.0. three.js, React Three Fiber, Babylon.js, Godot 4 and Blender import the GLB directly; Unity and Unreal Engine load it through their glTF importers. The snippets above show the exact code for three.js, React Three Fiber, Godot and Blender.
How was the Gate 3D model made?
Claude Code (Claude Opus 5.5) generated it inside 1DesignTool's 3D template from a written brief, then the design kit's checks verified the geometry and the GLB before it was published. You can make your own the same way with 1DesignTool.
