Compost bin
A low-poly slatted timber compost bin, 0.9 m square, with dark corner posts, ventilation gaps, removable front boards and a boarded lid propped open on grey strap hinges over a heap of compost. A Season knob raises the heap and tops it with spring weeds, summer grass clippings or autumn leaves.

Left rail: colours and the 4 knobs the agent wrote into this model — they rebuild the geometry and go into your download. Right rail: looks for the viewer. Drag to orbit, scroll to zoom.

The brief given to 1DesignTool's “3D object” template:
Compost bin for the Garden and Patio kit. Design it as one clear asset at believable real-world scale for that setting (state the size in metres in meta.notes), with its main parts modelled and named, readable at thumbnail size and from every orbit angle. This is one part of the Garden and Patio kit (Low-poly style, flat-lowpoly direction): A back garden through the seasons. Use ONLY the kit palette, by name: grass green #3a883a, terracotta #be5937, wood #7d5736, flower pinks #e085a3, grass green dark #235223, terracotta dark #823d26, grass green light #5db15d, terracotta light #d08971, soot black #1b1b22, warm white #f2ede2, mid grey #7d828c, dark wood #3d2a1c. Every material's `name` must be exactly the palette colour it uses — the GLB carries these names so the kit recolours as one; an unnamed material fails delivery. Kit knob: expose a param `season` (0–1, default 0.5) for the kit's "Season" setting wherever it makes sense on this part, and keep that id.

Note: Size: 0.90 m wide (X) × 0.90 m deep (Z). The slatted box and posts are 0.85 m tall. With the lid closed the bin is 0.93 m tall to the handle. At the default lid opening (40°) it is 1.47 m tall overall, which is the heightMeters figure. Origin at the bottom centre, resting on y = 0, front facing +Z; the lid hinges at the back. The GLB has 1,722 triangles in 14 meshes. It is static and carries no animation clip. The lid is its own node pivoted on the hinge line, so you can reopen it in an engine by rotating that node about X. Every material is named exactly after a kit palette colour. The exporter writes one material per mesh, so 'wood', 'dark wood' and 'mid grey' appear more than once; recolour by name. The compost is a closed slab, so the bin looks solid through every gap and from below. season (the kit's 'Season'; 0 = early spring, 0.5 = high summer, 1 = late autumn) changes the heap only. It raises the fill level from about 40% to 85% of the box. Weed tufts sprout in spring (they are gone above 0.4), grass clippings and spent flowers peak in summer, and fallen leaves drift on from 0.55. So 'grass green dark' and 'terracotta light' are present only in part of the range. lidOpen (0 closed → 1 at 100°), width (0.7–1.2 m; the depth stays 0.9 m) and slats (5–9 courses of 0.1 m boards with 24 mm gaps; this sets the height) change the geometry. Params are baked into the GLB at their defaults and change the geometry only when the scene is rebuilt in the viewer. The defaults and both extremes (season 1 / lid fully open / 0.7 m / 9 slats, and season 0 / closed / 1.2 m / 5 slats) passed three-check. glb-lint: 0 errors and 5 expected warnings. They are a material count over 10 and duplicate materials (both from the per-mesh export), non-indexed geometry (kept on purpose for hard flat facets), scraps overlapping the heap (seated on it by design), and the hinges flagged as detached although their leaves are screwed into the back slats. plan-check rejects only the hyphenated library part ids, because its regex allows no hyphen; the same plan with the slug de-hyphenated passes. three-check and the GLB reload keep all 7 ids. The viewer uses exposure 0.7 rather than the direction's 1.05; this does not affect the GLB.
About the Compost bin 3D model
Compost bin is a free low-poly 3D model from the Garden and Patio set. It measures 95 cm × 1.5 m × 95 cm (W × H × D) at real-world scale and is built from 1,722 triangles across 14 meshes, with 7 named parts. Download the 174 KB GLB and drop it into three.js, React Three Fiber, Godot or Blender — free for commercial use, no attribution required.
- Is the Compost bin 3D model free for commercial use?
- Yes. It is free under the 1DesignTool 3D library license: use it in personal and commercial work — games, apps, websites, renders, ads and client projects — and modify it as you like, with no credit required. What you can't do is re-sell or re-distribute the file on its own or inside a model pack.
- What file format is it, and how big is it?
- A single binary glTF 2.0 file (.glb), 174 KB: 1,722 triangles, 5,166 vertices and 14 materials, modelled in metres at 95 cm × 1.5 m × 95 cm.
- Can I animate Compost bin?
- It ships as a static mesh. Its 7 named parts are separate nodes, so you can move or animate each one in your engine.
- Which engines and tools can open it?
- Anything that reads glTF 2.0. three.js, React Three Fiber, Babylon.js, Godot 4 and Blender import the GLB directly; Unity and Unreal Engine load it through their glTF importers. The snippets above show the exact code for three.js, React Three Fiber, Godot and Blender.
- How was the Compost bin 3D model made?
- Claude Code (Claude Opus 5.5) generated it inside 1DesignTool's 3D template from a written brief, then the design kit's checks verified the geometry and the GLB before it was published. You can make your own the same way with 1DesignTool.
