Camera crane

A low-poly studio camera crane: a long grey jib balanced on a column over a four-wheel dolly, with a king post and tie cables, counterweight plates at the rear and a levelled camera with a matte box at the tip. It carries an 8-second seamless loop in which the boom swings, dips and rises while the camera stays level.

How it was made

The brief given to 1DesignTool's “3D object” template:

Camera crane for the Film Studio kit. Design it as one clear asset at believable real-world scale for that setting (state the size in metres in meta.notes), with its main parts modelled and named, readable at thumbnail size and from every orbit angle. It moves: author a seamless baked loop (2–12 s) with every pivot exactly at its hinge, axle or swivel, and keep the base still. This is one part of the Film Studio kit (Low-poly style, flat-lowpoly direction): Sets, lights and fake walls. Use ONLY the kit palette, by name: black #151619, lamp yellow #eecd2b, wood #7d5736, red carpet #c32222, black dark #090a0b, lamp yellow dark #bda00f, black light #3a3c40, lamp yellow light #f0db75, soot black #1b1b22, warm white #f2ede2, mid grey #7d828c, dark wood #3d2a1c. Every material's `name` must be exactly the palette colour it uses — the GLB carries these names so the kit recolours as one; an unnamed material fails delivery. Kit knob: expose a param `filmGenreOnSet` (0–1, default 0.5) for the kit's "Film genre on set" setting wherever it makes sense on this part, and keep that id.

Note: Size: 2.35 m tall (king post top), 4.37 m long from the rear end cap to the matte box, 1.08 m wide at the dolly wheels; the boom axle is 1.7 m off the floor and reaches 2.6 m forward of the column. The origin is on the floor under the column axis, the wheels and levelling-jack pads rest on y = 0, and the boom reaches toward +Z. The GLB has 1,964 triangles in 31 meshes and one 8 s clip, 'scene-motion', that loops seamlessly: the swivel swings ±25° once about the column axis, the boom dips and rises twice about its axle (dip capped so the camera stays at least 0.3 m off the floor at every param value), the remote head counter-tilts about the tip axle so the camera stays level, and the camera pans back against the swing. The dolly and column never move. Hierarchy: root > base, column, swivel > boom > counterweight, head > camera; each pivot node sits exactly on its hinge with an identity rest rotation, so in an engine you can drive swivel (Y), boom (X), head (X) and camera (Y) yourself. 8 of the 12 kit colours are used (wood, dark wood, lamp yellow light and warm white are not) and every material is named exactly after its palette colour; the exporter writes one material per mesh, so a name repeats — recolour by name. Params are baked into the GLB at their defaults and change the geometry only when the scene is rebuilt in the viewer; armReach also sets the counterweight plate count (3 to 7). filmGenreOnSet (the kit's 'Film genre on set') dresses the rig in three steps: below 0.34 period (twin-reel film magazine on the camera, no monitor); 0.34–0.67 drama (compact camera plus an operator monitor at the rear, the default); above 0.67 action (adds lamp-yellow safety bands on the boom and lamp-yellow jack pads). Param extremes were checked in a scratch copy and pass three-check and glb-lint. glb-lint: 0 errors; its verdict prints UNVERIFIED because 5 rules need a requirements contract or a manual review. Its 6 warnings are expected: per-mesh materials over the direction's count, non-indexed flat-shaded geometry, nested overlapping dolly boxes, a 2.35 m height against the 1 m reference, and the swivel flagged 'detached' because it sits on the column, which is not its sibling node. plan-check passes except for its part-id regex, which rejects the hyphens in the slug-based ids this library requires; a copy with the hyphens removed passes, and three-check accepts the ids, all 8 of which survive the GLB reload.

About the Camera crane 3D model

Camera crane is a free animated low-poly 3D model from the Film Studio set. It measures 2.1 m × 2.4 m × 4.1 m (W × H × D) at real-world scale and is built from 1,964 triangles across 31 meshes, with 8 named parts and a baked animation (8.0 s). Download the 184 KB GLB and drop it into three.js, React Three Fiber, Godot or Blender — free for commercial use, no attribution required.

Is the Camera crane 3D model free for commercial use?
Yes. It is free under the 1DesignTool 3D library license: use it in personal and commercial work — games, apps, websites, renders, ads and client projects — and modify it as you like, with no credit required. What you can't do is re-sell or re-distribute the file on its own or inside a model pack.
What file format is it, and how big is it?
A single binary glTF 2.0 file (.glb), 184 KB: 1,964 triangles, 5,892 vertices and 31 materials, modelled in metres at 2.1 m × 2.4 m × 4.1 m.
Is Camera crane animated?
Yes — the GLB carries a baked animation (8.0 s), ready to play with any glTF animation mixer.
Which engines and tools can open it?
Anything that reads glTF 2.0. three.js, React Three Fiber, Babylon.js, Godot 4 and Blender import the GLB directly; Unity and Unreal Engine load it through their glTF importers. The snippets above show the exact code for three.js, React Three Fiber, Godot and Blender.
How was the Camera crane 3D model made?
Claude Code (Claude Opus 5.5) generated it inside 1DesignTool's 3D template from a written brief, then the design kit's checks verified the geometry and the GLB before it was published. You can make your own the same way with 1DesignTool.
