Dolly on track

A low-poly film camera dolly on a 3 m section of tube track: a black chassis on V-wheel bogies carries a telescoping column with a twin-magazine film camera, a red operator seat, a yellow push bar and an apple box. In a seamless 8-second loop the dolly rolls along the rails and back while its wheels turn, the column booms and the camera pans.

How it was made

The brief given to 1DesignTool's “3D object” template:

Dolly on track for the Film Studio kit. Design it as one clear asset at believable real-world scale for that setting (state the size in metres in meta.notes), with its main parts modelled and named, readable at thumbnail size and from every orbit angle. It is a modular piece that snaps on a 1 m grid: give it a length in whole metres and put the origin at its snapping end, stated in meta.notes. It moves: author a seamless baked loop (2–12 s) with every pivot exactly at its hinge, axle or swivel, and keep the base still. This is one part of the Film Studio kit (Low-poly style, flat-lowpoly direction): Sets, lights and fake walls. Use ONLY the kit palette, by name: black #151619, lamp yellow #eecd2b, wood #7d5736, red carpet #c32222, black dark #090a0b, lamp yellow dark #bda00f, black light #3a3c40, lamp yellow light #f0db75, soot black #1b1b22, warm white #f2ede2, mid grey #7d828c, dark wood #3d2a1c. Every material's `name` must be exactly the palette colour it uses — the GLB carries these names so the kit recolours as one; an unnamed material fails delivery. Kit knob: expose a param `filmGenreOnSet` (0–1, default 0.5) for the kit's "Film genre on set" setting wherever it makes sense on this part, and keep that id.

Note: Size: the default track section is 3 m long (x 0 to 3), 0.92 m wide over the sleepers and 0.62 m rail gauge; the dolly chassis is 1.1 m by 0.84 m with its deck 0.38 m up, the lens sits 1.3 m above the floor and the model stands 1.64 m tall at the export pose. Units are metres and +Y is up; the camera lens faces +Z at rest. Kit snapping: the track runs along +X for a whole number of metres (trackLength, 2–6 m) and the origin is its left snapping end — x = 0, bottom, centred in Z — so sections butt end to end on a 1 m grid; rails are flush with both ends and sleepers sit every 0.5 m starting 0.25 m in. The shim wedges rest on y = 0. Animation: one baked 8 s seamless clip ('scene-motion'). The dolly translates along X about the middle of the track and never passes a snapping end; each of the eight wheels turns on its own axle by travel divided by its 55 mm radius, so it rolls without slipping; the column telescopes up out of its sleeve; the fluid head pans about the column axis. The track never moves. The GLB is exported at the t = 2 s pose, so the dolly sits near the far end of its travel there. filmGenreOnSet (the kit's 'Film genre on set') sets the shot style: at 0 a short, slow noir creep with an almost still column and an 8° pan; at 1 a full-length action tracking shot with a 16 cm boom and a 30° pan. trackLength sets the section length and the travel, lensHeight raises the column, seatSwing swings the operator seat arm about the column sleeve. Params are baked into the GLB at their defaults and only change the model (and its clip) when the scene is rebuilt in the viewer; three-check passed with all params at their minimums and again at their maximums. Every material is named exactly after its kit palette colour; warm white, lamp yellow dark and lamp yellow light are not used on this part. The GLB has 2,100 triangles in 46 meshes. glb-lint: 0 errors and 4 heuristic warnings — exporter duplicate materials (one per mesh; recolour by name), material count above the direction's 10 for the same reason, non-indexed geometry (deliberate flat shading) and nested boxes (bogies under the chassis, column inside its sleeve). The lint verdict reads UNVERIFIED only because no host requirements contract was supplied. plan-check rejects only the hyphenated library part ids, because its regex allows no hyphen; the same plan with the slug de-hyphenated passes. Fix rounds: (1) rails merged into the track part (glb-lint flagged them as detached) and tighter framing; (2) the column sleeve top moved 1 cm under the yellow collar to remove z-fighting; (3) hero and side framing loosened so the rail ends stay in frame.

About the Dolly on track 3D model

Dolly on track is a free animated low-poly 3D model from the Film Studio set. It measures 3.0 m × 1.6 m × 1.2 m (W × H × D) at real-world scale and is built from 2,100 triangles across 46 meshes, with 16 named parts and a baked animation (8.0 s). Download the 255 KB GLB and drop it into three.js, React Three Fiber, Godot or Blender — free for commercial use, no attribution required.

Is the Dolly on track 3D model free for commercial use?
Yes. It is free under the 1DesignTool 3D library license: use it in personal and commercial work — games, apps, websites, renders, ads and client projects — and modify it as you like, with no credit required. What you can't do is re-sell or re-distribute the file on its own or inside a model pack.
What file format is it, and how big is it?
A single binary glTF 2.0 file (.glb), 255 KB: 2,100 triangles, 6,300 vertices and 46 materials, modelled in metres at 3.0 m × 1.6 m × 1.2 m.
Is Dolly on track animated?
Yes — the GLB carries a baked animation (8.0 s), ready to play with any glTF animation mixer.
Which engines and tools can open it?
Anything that reads glTF 2.0. three.js, React Three Fiber, Babylon.js, Godot 4 and Blender import the GLB directly; Unity and Unreal Engine load it through their glTF importers. The snippets above show the exact code for three.js, React Three Fiber, Godot and Blender.
How was the Dolly on track 3D model made?
Claude Code (Claude Opus 5.5) generated it inside 1DesignTool's 3D template from a written brief, then the design kit's checks verified the geometry and the GLB before it was published. You can make your own the same way with 1DesignTool.
