Cables

A low-poly film-studio cable run. A chocked wooden cable drum pays out a heavy black feeder, and a lighter lead runs from a hand-coiled loop on the floor. Both thread through a yellow-lidded crossover ramp and end in red and yellow plugs.

How it was made

The brief given to 1DesignTool's “3D object” template:

Cables for the Film Studio kit. Design it as one clear asset at believable real-world scale for that setting (state the size in metres in meta.notes), with its main parts modelled and named, readable at thumbnail size and from every orbit angle. This is one part of the Film Studio kit (Low-poly style, flat-lowpoly direction): Sets, lights and fake walls. Use ONLY the kit palette, by name: black #151619, lamp yellow #eecd2b, wood #7d5736, red carpet #c32222, black dark #090a0b, lamp yellow dark #bda00f, black light #3a3c40, lamp yellow light #f0db75, soot black #1b1b22, warm white #f2ede2, mid grey #7d828c, dark wood #3d2a1c. Every material's `name` must be exactly the palette colour it uses — the GLB carries these names so the kit recolours as one; an unnamed material fails delivery. Kit knob: expose a param `filmGenreOnSet` (0–1, default 0.5) for the kit's "Film genre on set" setting wherever it makes sense on this part, and keep that id.

Note: Size: 1.10 m wide, 2.41 m deep and 0.58 m tall (the drum flanges are 0.6 m across). The ramp is 0.54 m wide and 0.07 m high, the feeder cable is 52 mm thick and the lead is 32 mm. Units are metres and +Y is up. The runs head toward +Z, from the drum at the back to the plugs at the front. The origin is the bottom centre of the footprint, resting on y = 0: the flange facets, chocks, ramp, cables, coil and plugs all sit on the floor. Every material is named exactly after its kit palette colour. Warm white, lamp yellow light and soot black are not used on this part. The GLB has 4,000 triangles in 15 meshes. It is static and carries no animation clip. three-check's 4,290-triangle figure also counts the viewer's staging ground, which is not exported. Params are baked into the GLB at their defaults and only change the model when the scene is rebuilt in the viewer. filmGenreOnSet (the kit's 'Film genre on set') sets the slack in both runs: at 0 they lie nearly straight, taped down for a tidy noir set, and at 1 they snake loosely across the floor for a busy musical. reelFill sets how much cable is still wound on the drum. coilLoops (2–5) stacks the floor coil, and rampLength (0.6–1.2 m) stretches the crossover ramp, moving the plugs with it. three-check passed with all params at their minimums and again at their maximums. glb-lint: 0 errors and 4 heuristic warnings. They cover exporter duplicate materials (15 exported for 9 palette colours; recolour by name), non-indexed geometry (deliberate flat shading), and boxes nested on purpose (hubs and wound cable inside the flanges). The lint verdict reads UNVERIFIED only because no host requirements contract was supplied. plan-check rejects only the hyphenated library part ids, because its regex allows no hyphen; the same plan with the slug de-hyphenated passes. Fix round 1: the default ramp was shortened and the drum and coil were pulled in, so the footprint is less elongated. The lid also moved to lamp yellow dark, because pale lamp yellow washed out to cream under the top light.

About the Cables 3D model

Cables is a free low-poly 3D model from the Film Studio set. It measures 1.1 m × 58 cm × 2.4 m (W × H × D) at real-world scale and is built from 4,000 triangles across 15 meshes, with 20 named parts. Download the 295 KB GLB and drop it into three.js, React Three Fiber, Godot or Blender — free for commercial use, no attribution required.

Is the Cables 3D model free for commercial use?
Yes. It is free under the 1DesignTool 3D library license: use it in personal and commercial work — games, apps, websites, renders, ads and client projects — and modify it as you like, with no credit required. What you can't do is re-sell or re-distribute the file on its own or inside a model pack.
What file format is it, and how big is it?
A single binary glTF 2.0 file (.glb), 295 KB: 4,000 triangles, 12,000 vertices and 15 materials, modelled in metres at 1.1 m × 58 cm × 2.4 m.
Can I animate Cables?
It ships as a static mesh. Its 20 named parts are separate nodes, so you can move or animate each one in your engine.
Which engines and tools can open it?
Anything that reads glTF 2.0. three.js, React Three Fiber, Babylon.js, Godot 4 and Blender import the GLB directly; Unity and Unreal Engine load it through their glTF importers. The snippets above show the exact code for three.js, React Three Fiber, Godot and Blender.
How was the Cables 3D model made?
Claude Code (Claude Opus 5.5) generated it inside 1DesignTool's 3D template from a written brief, then the design kit's checks verified the geometry and the GLB before it was published. You can make your own the same way with 1DesignTool.
