Backlot street
A low-poly 4 × 4 m film-studio backlot street tile: a one-lane road between kerbed sidewalks, with a camera dolly on its track, a film light on a sandbagged stand, a cast-iron street lamp and a fire hydrant. It tiles seamlessly in every direction.

The brief given to 1DesignTool's “3D object” template:
Backlot street for the Film Studio kit. Design it as one clear asset at believable real-world scale for that setting (state the size in metres in meta.notes), with its main parts modelled and named, readable at thumbnail size and from every orbit angle. Make it a ground piece on an exact 4 × 4 m footprint with flat edges at y = 0 that tile seamlessly with its neighbours in every direction; origin at the tile centre. This is one part of the Film Studio kit (Low-poly style, flat-lowpoly direction): Sets, lights and fake walls. Use ONLY the kit palette, by name: black #151619, lamp yellow #eecd2b, wood #7d5736, red carpet #c32222, black dark #090a0b, lamp yellow dark #bda00f, black light #3a3c40, lamp yellow light #f0db75, soot black #1b1b22, warm white #f2ede2, mid grey #7d828c, dark wood #3d2a1c. Every material's `name` must be exactly the palette colour it uses — the GLB carries these names so the kit recolours as one; an unnamed material fails delivery. Kit knob: expose a param `filmGenreOnSet` (0–1, default 0.5) for the kit's "Film genre on set" setting wherever it makes sense on this part, and keep that id.

Note: Real-world size at the defaults: an exact 4.0 × 4.0 m ground tile, 0.18 m high at the kerbs and 3.5 m to the lamp finial. The origin is at the tile centre and the bottom sits on y = 0. The road runs along x and is 2.6 m wide, between 0.15 m kerbs and 0.55 m sidewalks. Every repeating element (slabs, kerb stones, planks, lane dashes, track sleepers) has a pitch that divides 4 m and stops half a joint short of the border. Both z borders are sidewalk at the same height, so copies tile in x and in z; stacked front to back, two sidewalks meet as one wide walk. The dolly rails run the full 4 m. filmGenreOnSet switches the dressing at thirds: below 1/3 is a western (dirt road with wagon ruts, plank boardwalk, timber lantern post, water barrel, no manhole or dashes), the middle is a classic city (asphalt, grey slabs, white kerbs, yellow dashes, hydrant) and above 2/3 is noir (soot-black road, dark slabs, white dashes, lit yellow lantern). The default GLB uses 9 palette colours; dark wood appears only in the western genre and soot black only in noir. lamp yellow dark is not used in any genre. The glTF export writes one material per mesh, so several materials share a palette name; recolour them by name. 1,936 triangles in the GLB; every param extreme stays under 2,300. glb-lint: 0 errors, plus 5 heuristic warnings (material count, duplicate-named materials, non-indexed flat-shaded geometry, intentionally nested parts, and the 3.5 m height against a 1 m reference). plan-check was run on a copy with the hyphens removed, because its part-id regex rejects hyphenated slug ids. Static: no animation clip.
About the Backlot street 3D model
Backlot street is a free low-poly 3D model from the Film Studio set. It measures 4.0 m × 3.5 m × 4.0 m (W × H × D) at real-world scale and is built from 1,936 triangles across 25 meshes, with 9 named parts. Download the 157 KB GLB and drop it into three.js, React Three Fiber, Godot or Blender — free for commercial use, no attribution required.
- Is the Backlot street 3D model free for commercial use?
- Yes. It is free under the 1DesignTool 3D library license: use it in personal and commercial work — games, apps, websites, renders, ads and client projects — and modify it as you like, with no credit required. What you can't do is re-sell or re-distribute the file on its own or inside a model pack.
- What file format is it, and how big is it?
- A single binary glTF 2.0 file (.glb), 157 KB: 1,936 triangles, 5,808 vertices and 25 materials, modelled in metres at 4.0 m × 3.5 m × 4.0 m.
- Can I animate Backlot street?
- It ships as a static mesh. Its 9 named parts are separate nodes, so you can move or animate each one in your engine.
- Which engines and tools can open it?
- Anything that reads glTF 2.0. three.js, React Three Fiber, Babylon.js, Godot 4 and Blender import the GLB directly; Unity and Unreal Engine load it through their glTF importers. The snippets above show the exact code for three.js, React Three Fiber, Godot and Blender.
- How was the Backlot street 3D model made?
- Claude Code (Claude Opus 5.5) generated it inside 1DesignTool's 3D template from a written brief, then the design kit's checks verified the geometry and the GLB before it was published. You can make your own the same way with 1DesignTool.
