Turning blades

A low-poly working wind turbine whose three red-tipped blades turn in a seamless 6-second loop. A tapered white tower on a concrete pad carries a nacelle with a spinning anemometer and a red aviation light.

How it was made

The brief given to 1DesignTool's “3D object” template:

Turning blades for the Wind and Solar Farm kit. Design it as one clear asset at believable real-world scale for that setting (state the size in metres in meta.notes), with its main parts modelled and named, readable at thumbnail size and from every orbit angle. It moves: author a seamless baked loop (2–12 s) with every pivot exactly at its hinge, axle or swivel, and keep the base still. This is one part of the Wind and Solar Farm kit (Low-poly style, flat-lowpoly direction): Clean power on open land. Use ONLY the kit palette, by name: white #f4f1ec, panel blue #2e67b8, grass green #3a883a, signal red #e90c0c, white dark #d7cebc, panel blue dark #1f457a, white light #f9f8f6, panel blue light #6190d1, soot black #1b1b22, warm white #f2ede2, mid grey #7d828c, dark wood #3d2a1c. Every material's `name` must be exactly the palette colour it uses — the GLB carries these names so the kit recolours as one; an unnamed material fails delivery. Kit knob: expose a param `windSpeed` (0–1, default 0.5) for the kit's "Wind speed" setting wherever it makes sense on this part, and keep that id.

Note: Size at the defaults: 55 m hub height and 26 m blades (about a 54 m rotor), 81 m to the top blade tip; the octagonal pad is 9.2 m across. Units are metres, +Y up, the rotor faces +Z, and the origin is the tower's bottom centre with the pad on y = 0. The rotor hangs 4 m ahead of the tower axis on a 5° tilted shaft. The GLB has 1,252 triangles and carries one 6 s looping clip, 'scene-motion'. In it the rotor turns clockwise seen from the front about its shaft, pivoting at the hub centre, and the anemometer cups turn about their mast. Pad, tower and nacelle stay still. The rotor turns whole thirds of a turn per loop, so the loop is seamless. windSpeed (the kit's 'Wind speed') sets that rate from 1/3 turn per loop (about 3 rpm) through 1 turn (10 rpm, the default) to 1 2/3 turns (about 17 rpm). It also sets blade pitch from 12° in calm to 0° in full wind. Params are baked into the GLB at their defaults: the clip's speed and the geometry change only when the viewer rebuilds the scene. The static node transforms in the GLB hold the pose at t = 2 s, which looks the same as t = 0 because the three blades are identical. Blade chords are drawn about 1.3× wider than a real blade so they read at thumbnail size. Every material is named exactly after a kit palette colour (8 of the 12). The exporter writes one material per mesh, so names repeat; recolour by name. glb-lint reported 0 errors. Its 5 warnings are expected: repeated material names, non-indexed geometry for hard flat facets, intended nesting of flange, door and band on the tower, and a 'scale' heuristic that expects 1 m objects. plan-check rejects only the hyphenated library part ids (its regex allows no hyphen); the same plan with the slug de-hyphenated passes, and three-check and the GLB reload keep all 9 ids.

About the Turning blades 3D model

Turning blades is a free animated low-poly 3D model from the Wind and Solar Farm set. It measures 46 m × 81 m × 13 m (W × H × D) at real-world scale and is built from 1,252 triangles across 26 meshes, with 9 named parts and a baked animation (6.0 s). Download the 129 KB GLB and drop it into three.js, React Three Fiber, Godot or Blender — free for commercial use, no attribution required.

Is the Turning blades 3D model free for commercial use?
Yes. It is free under the 1DesignTool 3D library license: use it in personal and commercial work — games, apps, websites, renders, ads and client projects — and modify it as you like, with no credit required. What you can't do is re-sell or re-distribute the file on its own or inside a model pack.
What file format is it, and how big is it?
A single binary glTF 2.0 file (.glb), 129 KB: 1,252 triangles, 3,756 vertices and 26 materials, modelled in metres at 46 m × 81 m × 13 m.
Is Turning blades animated?
Yes — the GLB carries a baked animation (6.0 s), ready to play with any glTF animation mixer.
Which engines and tools can open it?
Anything that reads glTF 2.0. three.js, React Three Fiber, Babylon.js, Godot 4 and Blender import the GLB directly; Unity and Unreal Engine load it through their glTF importers. The snippets above show the exact code for three.js, React Three Fiber, Godot and Blender.
How was the Turning blades 3D model made?
Claude Code (Claude Opus 5.5) generated it inside 1DesignTool's 3D template from a written brief, then the design kit's checks verified the geometry and the GLB before it was published. You can make your own the same way with 1DesignTool.
