Shields

A low-poly rack of three painted Norse round shields for the Viking Fjord Village kit. Each shield has a quartered, wedged or ringed paint scheme, a leather-bound rim, an iron boss and a wooden grip, and they stand on a sill leaning against a timber trestle rack.

How it was made

The brief given to 1DesignTool's “3D object” template:

Shields for the Viking Fjord Village kit. Design it as one clear asset at believable real-world scale for that setting (state the size in metres in meta.notes), with its main parts modelled and named, readable at thumbnail size and from every orbit angle. This is one part of the Viking Fjord Village kit (Low-poly style, flat-lowpoly direction): Longhouses under steep cliffs. Use ONLY the kit palette, by name: timber brown #6b4a2e, slate #525e6f, sea grey #757e8a, rust red #c32222, timber brown dark #362517, slate dark #323943, timber brown light #9b704b, slate light #7b8593, soot black #1b1b22, warm white #f2ede2, mid grey #7d828c, dark wood #3d2a1c. Every material's `name` must be exactly the palette colour it uses — the GLB carries these names so the kit recolours as one; an unnamed material fails delivery. Kit knob: expose a param `season` (0–1, default 0.5) for the kit's "Season" setting wherever it makes sense on this part, and keep that id.

Note: Size at the defaults: 3.28 m long (x) × 0.98 m deep (z) × 1.19 m tall (y), with shields 0.86 m across, a believable Norse round-shield size. The painted faces look toward +Z. The origin is at the bottom centre, and the slate pads under the trestle feet rest on y = 0. The GLB has 2,174 triangles in 25 meshes, is static and carries no animation clip. Normals are baked flat (non-indexed). Every material is named exactly after a kit palette colour, and 9 of the 12 appear at the defaults. Soot black, timber brown light and slate light are used only by the 4th and 5th shields. The exporter writes one material per mesh, so names repeat; recolour by name. season (the kit's 'Season', 0 = high summer, 1 = deep winter) lays snow on the top rail, finials, feet and sill above 0.55, and frosts the shields' top rims in deep winter. At the default of 0.5 there is no snow. shieldCount (1–5) lengthens the rack to fit the shields, which are ordered centre-out with the quartered red shield in the middle. shieldDiameter and lean reshape the shields, and the rail height follows. Params are baked into the GLB at their defaults, and change the geometry only when the scene is rebuilt in the viewer. Only the default state was rendered and checked. glb-lint: 0 errors and 4 heuristic warnings, all expected: more than 10 materials and duplicate names (one material per mesh), non-indexed flat shading, and overlapping sibling boxes (paint layers nest on the boards). plan-check rejects only the hyphenated library part ids, because its regex allows no hyphen. The same plan passes with the slug de-hyphenated. three-check and the GLB keep all 5 ids. One fix round, visual only: larger bosses so they read at thumbnail size, and a tighter hero framing.

About the Shields 3D model

Shields is a free low-poly 3D model from the Viking Fjord Village set. It measures 3.3 m × 1.2 m × 98 cm (W × H × D) at real-world scale and is built from 2,174 triangles across 25 meshes, with 5 named parts. Download the 231 KB GLB and drop it into three.js, React Three Fiber, Godot or Blender — free for commercial use, no attribution required.

Is the Shields 3D model free for commercial use?
Yes. It is free under the 1DesignTool 3D library license: use it in personal and commercial work — games, apps, websites, renders, ads and client projects — and modify it as you like, with no credit required. What you can't do is re-sell or re-distribute the file on its own or inside a model pack.
What file format is it, and how big is it?
A single binary glTF 2.0 file (.glb), 231 KB: 2,174 triangles, 6,522 vertices and 25 materials, modelled in metres at 3.3 m × 1.2 m × 98 cm.
Can I animate Shields?
It ships as a static mesh. Its 5 named parts are separate nodes, so you can move or animate each one in your engine.
Which engines and tools can open it?
Anything that reads glTF 2.0. three.js, React Three Fiber, Babylon.js, Godot 4 and Blender import the GLB directly; Unity and Unreal Engine load it through their glTF importers. The snippets above show the exact code for three.js, React Three Fiber, Godot and Blender.
How was the Shields 3D model made?
Claude Code (Claude Opus 5.5) generated it inside 1DesignTool's 3D template from a written brief, then the design kit's checks verified the geometry and the GLB before it was published. You can make your own the same way with 1DesignTool.
