Fish racks

A low-poly Norse stockfish rack (hjell) for the Viking Fjord Village kit. Crossed-pole A-frame trestles on slate footings carry a ridge pole and two tiers of rails hung with pairs of split cod, lashed in rust red rope, with a leaning ladder and a tub of fresh fish.

How it was made

The brief given to 1DesignTool's “3D object” template:

Fish racks for the Viking Fjord Village kit. Design it as one clear asset at believable real-world scale for that setting (state the size in metres in meta.notes), with its main parts modelled and named, readable at thumbnail size and from every orbit angle. This is one part of the Viking Fjord Village kit (Low-poly style, flat-lowpoly direction): Longhouses under steep cliffs. Use ONLY the kit palette, by name: timber brown #6b4a2e, slate #525e6f, sea grey #757e8a, rust red #c32222, timber brown dark #362517, slate dark #323943, timber brown light #9b704b, slate light #7b8593, soot black #1b1b22, warm white #f2ede2, mid grey #7d828c, dark wood #3d2a1c. Every material's `name` must be exactly the palette colour it uses — the GLB carries these names so the kit recolours as one; an unnamed material fails delivery. Kit knob: expose a param `season` (0–1, default 0.5) for the kit's "Season" setting wherever it makes sense on this part, and keep that id.

Note: Size at the defaults: 7.68 m long (x: three 2 m bays plus rail overhang and the ladder leaning on the +X end) × 2.89 m deep (z: legs splay to ±1.0 m, and the fish tub stands in front) × 2.98 m tall (the legs cross at 2.6 m and the pole ends stand above the ridge). The long front faces +Z, the origin is at the bottom centre, and the footing stones, ladder foot and tub rest on y = 0. The GLB has 3,338 triangles in 16 meshes, is static and carries no animation clip. Normals are baked flat (non-indexed). Every material is named exactly after a kit palette colour. 10 colours appear at the default: warm white appears only as snow, and mid grey is not used. The exporter writes one material per mesh, so names repeat; recolour by name. season (the kit's 'Season', 0 = high summer, 1 = deep winter) fills the rails with stockfish: about 35% of the hanging slots in summer, 68% at the default and all of them in winter. Above 0.55 it also lays snow on the rails and footing stones and over the fish in the tub. bays (2–4) sets the number of 2 m bays and trestles, and rackHeight sets where the legs cross; the rail tiers scale with it. Params are baked into the GLB at their defaults, and change the geometry only when the scene is rebuilt in the viewer. The worst case (season = 1, bays = 4) was rendered and checked at 5,222 triangles, which is under the 6,000 budget. glb-lint: 0 errors and 6 heuristic warnings, all expected: more than 10 materials and duplicate names (one material per mesh), non-indexed flat shading, overlapping sibling boxes (fish and stones merged per colour), 'detached' flags on the rails and lashings, which rest on the legs but don't touch the ground, and the scale check for a subject taller than 1 m. plan-check rejects only the hyphenated library part ids, because its regex allows no hyphen. The same plan passes with the slug de-hyphenated. three-check and the GLB keep all 9 ids. One fix round, visual only: the fish's widest point moved toward the head so they stop reading as crystals, fewer brown fish, and a tighter hero frame.

About the Fish racks 3D model

Fish racks is a free low-poly 3D model from the Viking Fjord Village set. It measures 7.7 m × 3.0 m × 2.9 m (W × H × D) at real-world scale and is built from 3,338 triangles across 16 meshes, with 9 named parts. Download the 331 KB GLB and drop it into three.js, React Three Fiber, Godot or Blender — free for commercial use, no attribution required.

Is the Fish racks 3D model free for commercial use?
Yes. It is free under the 1DesignTool 3D library license: use it in personal and commercial work — games, apps, websites, renders, ads and client projects — and modify it as you like, with no credit required. What you can't do is re-sell or re-distribute the file on its own or inside a model pack.
What file format is it, and how big is it?
A single binary glTF 2.0 file (.glb), 331 KB: 3,338 triangles, 10,014 vertices and 16 materials, modelled in metres at 7.7 m × 3.0 m × 2.9 m.
Can I animate Fish racks?
It ships as a static mesh. Its 9 named parts are separate nodes, so you can move or animate each one in your engine.
Which engines and tools can open it?
Anything that reads glTF 2.0. three.js, React Three Fiber, Babylon.js, Godot 4 and Blender import the GLB directly; Unity and Unreal Engine load it through their glTF importers. The snippets above show the exact code for three.js, React Three Fiber, Godot and Blender.
How was the Fish racks 3D model made?
Claude Code (Claude Opus 5.5) generated it inside 1DesignTool's 3D template from a written brief, then the design kit's checks verified the geometry and the GLB before it was published. You can make your own the same way with 1DesignTool.
