Dune and track tiles

A low-poly 4 × 4 m Silk Road ground tile: a dark trodden caravan track bends between sand berms past a crescent dune with a darker slipface, with a stone waymark cairn and a trader's rug of goods at the trackside. Every edge is flat and the track meets the left and right borders at the same place, so copies tile seamlessly.

How it was made

The brief given to 1DesignTool's “3D object” template:

Dune and track tiles for the Silk Road Caravanserai kit. Design it as one clear asset at believable real-world scale for that setting (state the size in metres in meta.notes), with its main parts modelled and named, readable at thumbnail size and from every orbit angle. Make it a ground piece on an exact 4 × 4 m footprint with flat edges at y = 0 that tile seamlessly with its neighbours in every direction; origin at the tile centre. This is one part of the Silk Road Caravanserai kit (Low-poly style, flat-lowpoly direction): A walled inn for desert traders. Use ONLY the kit palette, by name: mud brick #9e3d2e, indigo #2d2d76, saffron #eead2b, carpet red #c32222, mud brick dark #63261d, indigo dark #18183f, mud brick light #c66253, indigo light #4848a8, soot black #1b1b22, warm white #f2ede2, mid grey #7d828c, dark wood #3d2a1c. Every material's `name` must be exactly the palette colour it uses — the GLB carries these names so the kit recolours as one; an unnamed material fails delivery. Kit knob: expose a param `goodsOnSale` (0–1, default 0.5) for the kit's "Goods on sale" setting wherever it makes sense on this part, and keep that id.

Note: Size: an exact 4 × 4 m footprint, origin at the tile centre, bottom on y = 0, front facing +Z. The dune crest stands about 1.1 m above y = 0 and the cairn's pennant pole tops out at 1.75 m. Every border is flat at 0.12 m except where the 1 m track (sunk 5 cm, with low berms) crosses the left and right borders; its bend is zero at x = ±2 m, so the cross-section is identical on both sides and the track runs on into an east or west neighbour at every trackWidth and trackBend setting. The front and back borders are plain flat sand. The exported model has 6,480 triangles in 16 meshes (merged per part and colour) and no animation clip. Normals are baked flat (non-indexed). Ten of the kit's twelve colours are used (no soot black or indigo dark), and every material is named exactly after its palette colour; the exporter writes one material per mesh, so recolour by name. goodsOnSale (the kit's 'Goods on sale') lays wares out one by one on the trader's rug: a cloth bale, jars, a rolled carpet, spice sacks, folded carpets, a shade awning, more jars and a second bale. At 0 the trackside is bare sand; the default of 0.5 shows four lots. Params are baked into the GLB at their defaults and only change geometry when the scene is rebuilt in the viewer. glb-lint: 0 errors and 5 heuristic warnings (material count/duplicates, unindexed geometry for flat shading, sibling overlap of stacked cairn stones and goods on the rug, and a 'detached' slipface and scrub, which sit on the sand of another part). plan-check passes except for its part-id regex, which rejects the hyphens this library's slug-based ids need; the same plan with the slug de-hyphenated passes. three-check accepts those ids, and all 8 survive the GLB reload.

About the Dune and track tiles 3D model

Dune and track tiles is a free low-poly 3D model from the Silk Road Caravanserai set. It measures 4.0 m × 1.7 m × 4.0 m (W × H × D) at real-world scale and is built from 6,480 triangles across 16 meshes, with 8 named parts. Download the 507 KB GLB and drop it into three.js, React Three Fiber, Godot or Blender — free for commercial use, no attribution required.

Is the Dune and track tiles 3D model free for commercial use?
Yes. It is free under the 1DesignTool 3D library license: use it in personal and commercial work — games, apps, websites, renders, ads and client projects — and modify it as you like, with no credit required. What you can't do is re-sell or re-distribute the file on its own or inside a model pack.
What file format is it, and how big is it?
A single binary glTF 2.0 file (.glb), 507 KB: 6,480 triangles, 19,428 vertices and 16 materials, modelled in metres at 4.0 m × 1.7 m × 4.0 m.
Can I animate Dune and track tiles?
It ships as a static mesh. Its 8 named parts are separate nodes, so you can move or animate each one in your engine.
Which engines and tools can open it?
Anything that reads glTF 2.0. three.js, React Three Fiber, Babylon.js, Godot 4 and Blender import the GLB directly; Unity and Unreal Engine load it through their glTF importers. The snippets above show the exact code for three.js, React Three Fiber, Godot and Blender.
How was the Dune and track tiles 3D model made?
Claude Code (Claude Opus 5.5) generated it inside 1DesignTool's 3D template from a written brief, then the design kit's checks verified the geometry and the GLB before it was published. You can make your own the same way with 1DesignTool.
