Courtyard inn

A low-poly Silk Road caravanserai: a square walled inn of red mud brick with octagonal corner towers and a tall indigo-tiled entrance portal. Inside, domed ranges of rooms with pointed-arch arcades surround a courtyard with a well and market stalls of carpets, bales and jars.

How it was made

The brief given to 1DesignTool's “3D object” template:

Courtyard inn for the Silk Road Caravanserai kit. Design it as one clear asset at believable real-world scale for that setting (state the size in metres in meta.notes), with its main parts modelled and named, readable at thumbnail size and from every orbit angle. This is one part of the Silk Road Caravanserai kit (Low-poly style, flat-lowpoly direction): A walled inn for desert traders. Use ONLY the kit palette, by name: mud brick #9e3d2e, indigo #2d2d76, saffron #eead2b, carpet red #c32222, mud brick dark #63261d, indigo dark #18183f, mud brick light #c66253, indigo light #4848a8, soot black #1b1b22, warm white #f2ede2, mid grey #7d828c, dark wood #3d2a1c. Every material's `name` must be exactly the palette colour it uses — the GLB carries these names so the kit recolours as one; an unnamed material fails delivery. Kit knob: expose a param `goodsOnSale` (0–1, default 0.5) for the kit's "Goods on sale" setting wherever it makes sense on this part, and keep that id.

Note: Size: the walls run 32 m along each side and stand 6.5 m high. The corner towers widen the footprint to 37.0 m (x) by 37.3 m (z) with the portal and step. The portal rises 10 m, and its pinnacles top out at 12.28 m. The portal faces +Z, and the origin is at the bottom centre of the footprint, resting on y = 0. The exported model has 5,796 triangles in 33 meshes (merged per part and colour) and no animation clip. With every param at its maximum it stays under about 7,500 triangles. Normals are baked flat (non-indexed). All 12 kit colours are used, and every material is named exactly after its palette colour. The exporter writes one material per mesh, so the same colour name can appear on several materials: recolour by name. goodsOnSale (the kit's 'Goods on sale') fills the courtyard's seven market stalls one by one (awning stalls, carpet dealers, bale-and-jar traders) and hangs up to four carpets over the front wall. At 0 the court is empty except for the well, and the default of 0.5 shows four stalls and two hung carpets. Params are baked into the GLB at their defaults and only change geometry when the scene is rebuilt in the viewer. Doorways and arches are opaque dark panels with no interiors, the gate does not open through to the court, and the back of the portal is plain brick. glb-lint: 0 errors and 6 heuristic warnings: material count and duplicates, unindexed geometry (flat shading on purpose), sibling overlap (plinths, bands and towers embedded in the walls on purpose), a 'detached' roofline mesh (parapets and domes sit on the wall tops of another part) and scale (compared with the direction's 1 m reference). plan-check passes except for its part-id regex, which rejects the hyphens this library's slug-based ids need; the same plan with the slug de-hyphenated passes. three-check accepts those ids, and all 8 survive the GLB reload.

About the Courtyard inn 3D model

Courtyard inn is a free low-poly 3D model from the Silk Road Caravanserai set. It measures 37 m × 12 m × 37 m (W × H × D) at real-world scale and is built from 5,796 triangles across 33 meshes, with 8 named parts. Download the 435 KB GLB and drop it into three.js, React Three Fiber, Godot or Blender — free for commercial use, no attribution required.

Is the Courtyard inn 3D model free for commercial use?
Yes. It is free under the 1DesignTool 3D library license: use it in personal and commercial work — games, apps, websites, renders, ads and client projects — and modify it as you like, with no credit required. What you can't do is re-sell or re-distribute the file on its own or inside a model pack.
What file format is it, and how big is it?
A single binary glTF 2.0 file (.glb), 435 KB: 5,796 triangles, 17,388 vertices and 33 materials, modelled in metres at 37 m × 12 m × 37 m.
Can I animate Courtyard inn?
It ships as a static mesh. Its 8 named parts are separate nodes, so you can move or animate each one in your engine.
Which engines and tools can open it?
Anything that reads glTF 2.0. three.js, React Three Fiber, Babylon.js, Godot 4 and Blender import the GLB directly; Unity and Unreal Engine load it through their glTF importers. The snippets above show the exact code for three.js, React Three Fiber, Godot and Blender.
How was the Courtyard inn 3D model made?
Claude Code (Claude Opus 5.5) generated it inside 1DesignTool's 3D template from a written brief, then the design kit's checks verified the geometry and the GLB before it was published. You can make your own the same way with 1DesignTool.
