Rippling water

A low-poly flooded rice paddy pocket: a flat blue water mirror inside a grass-capped earth bund, with rows of seedlings and a bamboo inlet pipe on forked posts. Drops fall from the pipe and send pale ripple rings spreading across the water in a seamless 6-second loop.

How it was made

The brief given to 1DesignTool's “3D object” template:

Rippling water for the Rice Terraces kit. Design it as one clear asset at believable real-world scale for that setting (state the size in metres in meta.notes), with its main parts modelled and named, readable at thumbnail size and from every orbit angle. It moves: author a seamless baked loop (2–12 s) with every pivot exactly at its hinge, axle or swivel, and keep the base still. This is one part of the Rice Terraces kit (Low-poly style, flat-lowpoly direction): Stepped green hills and small farms. Use ONLY the kit palette, by name: rice green #3a883a, water mirror #3997c6, earth brown #6b4a2e, straw #d7c375, rice green dark #235223, water mirror dark #286a8a, rice green light #5db15d, water mirror light #79b5d2, soot black #1b1b22, warm white #f2ede2, mid grey #7d828c, dark wood #3d2a1c. Every material's `name` must be exactly the palette colour it uses — the GLB carries these names so the kit recolours as one; an unnamed material fails delivery. Kit knob: expose a param `growthStageWater` (0–1, default 0.5) for the kit's "Growth stage (water" setting wherever it makes sense on this part, and keep that id.

  • Rippling water
  • Earth bund with grass cap
  • Paddy water mirror
  • Bamboo inlet pipe and posts
  • Water drop (falls from the pipe mouth)
  • Ripple ring 1 (spreads from the impact point)
  • Ripple ring 2 (spreads from the impact point)
  • Ripple ring 3 (spreads from the impact point)
  • Seedling row 1 (hinged at the waterline)
  • Seedling row 2 (hinged at the waterline)
  • Seedling row 3 (hinged at the waterline)

Note: Size: a 4.0 m × 3.0 m paddy pocket of water inside an earth bund, about 5.6 m wide (x) × 4.6 m deep (z) overall and 0.82 m tall at the bamboo inlet. The bund crest is 0.36 m high, and at the default stage the water surface is 0.16 m above y = 0. The origin is at the bottom centre and the front (+z) holds the seedling rows. Rig: the bund, water and inlet are the still base. 'drop' translates from the pipe mouth down to just under the surface and scales in and out. Each 'ripple_N' ring is pivoted on the impact point at the water surface: it scales outward in X/Z, rises about 3 cm proud of the water, then sinks back under it before it resets, so the restart is hidden. Each 'row_N' is hinged on its seedling base line at the waterline and sways ±0.07 rad about X. There are three drips per 6 s 'scene-motion' loop, and every pose is a pure function of t, so the loop is seamless. The ripple rings sit under the water surface while they are fully grown or just born, so in engines without the clip they are hidden or partly hidden at the static node pose (exported at t = 2 s). growthStageWater (the kit's 'Growth stage (water' knob) goes from 0, a deep 0.20 m flooded mirror with short light-green seedlings, to 1, a shallow 0.12 m mirror with 0.7 m straw-coloured ripe rice. The default 0.5 gives green rice. rowCount sets 0–3 seedling rows; at 0 the pool is open water. rippleSpread sets the largest ring radius. Params are baked into the GLB at their defaults and only change geometry when the scene is rebuilt in the viewer; only the defaults were rendered and checked. The GLB has 2,778 triangles in 21 meshes, and every material is named exactly after a kit palette colour. three-check's 3,068 figure includes the viewer's staging ground, which is not exported. glb-lint: 0 errors. Its warnings are expected: non-indexed flat-shaded geometry, one material per mesh, nested part boxes, and rings and the drop that touch no sibling by design. plan-check passes except for its part-id regex, which rejects the hyphens in the slug ids this library requires; the same plan with the slug de-hyphenated passes. Both fix rounds were visual: a jittered water top showed a starburst of fan facets, so it is now dead flat, the seedlings were thickened, and the back post was moved fully onto the bund crest.

About the Rippling water 3D model

Rippling water is a free animated low-poly 3D model from the Rice Terraces set. It measures 5.7 m × 82 cm × 4.6 m (W × H × D) at real-world scale and is built from 2,778 triangles across 21 meshes, with 11 named parts and a baked animation (6.0 s). Download the 250 KB GLB and drop it into three.js, React Three Fiber, Godot or Blender — free for commercial use, no attribution required.

Is the Rippling water 3D model free for commercial use?
Yes. It is free under the 1DesignTool 3D library license: use it in personal and commercial work — games, apps, websites, renders, ads and client projects — and modify it as you like, with no credit required. What you can't do is re-sell or re-distribute the file on its own or inside a model pack.
What file format is it, and how big is it?
A single binary glTF 2.0 file (.glb), 250 KB: 2,778 triangles, 8,334 vertices and 21 materials, modelled in metres at 5.7 m × 82 cm × 4.6 m.
Is Rippling water animated?
Yes — the GLB carries a baked animation (6.0 s), ready to play with any glTF animation mixer.
Which engines and tools can open it?
Anything that reads glTF 2.0. three.js, React Three Fiber, Babylon.js, Godot 4 and Blender import the GLB directly; Unity and Unreal Engine load it through their glTF importers. The snippets above show the exact code for three.js, React Three Fiber, Godot and Blender.
How was the Rippling water 3D model made?
Claude Code (Claude Opus 5.5) generated it inside 1DesignTool's 3D template from a written brief, then the design kit's checks verified the geometry and the GLB before it was published. You can make your own the same way with 1DesignTool.
