How it was made

The brief given to 1DesignTool's “3D object” template:

A realistic adult giant panda (Ailuropoda melanoleuca) sitting upright on its haunches, holding and chewing a bamboo stalk with leaves. Anatomy: about 0.9 m tall sitting, stocky round body, large round head, small rounded black ears, black eye patches slanting down and outward, small dark eyes, black nose, black legs and a black band across the shoulders, short tail; the 'pseudo-thumb' gripping the bamboo. Coat: thick, woolly, slightly coarse fur — off-white rather than pure white, with clumping on the back and belly. The bamboo has jointed segments and narrow leaves. Hard requirement: the exported GLB must contain more than 20,000 triangles — measure it before delivering; a lighter model is rejected.

Note: 109,817 triangles in model.glb (4.84 MB). About 71k of them are the body, a single seamless signed-distance sculpt meshed with surface nets. Triangles are concentrated where the eye goes: the head, paws and feet are refined 4×, and the face front and ears 16×. The two fur shells add about 21k; eyes, nose, claws, pads, bamboo and leaves make up the rest. Textures, all generated in code: fur base colour 1024² JPEG, fur normal 1024² JPEG, fur roughness 512² JPEG, fur-tip alpha 512² PNG, bamboo culm 256×1024 JPEG. The black-and-white coat map is stored as vertex colours (COLOR_0). Honest limits: there are no strand-level hair or hair cards. Fur is a strand/clump normal map plus two alpha-tested shells 4 mm and 8.5 mm out, which read as fuzz at the silhouette but show as stippled dashes up close on the black limbs. UVs are a six-way box projection, so strand direction changes at projection seams. The eyes are glossy spheres with no lids. The mouth is painted rather than modelled, and the stalk simply enters the mouth corner. Fingers are suggested by the fist shape and the claws, not modelled one by one. This is not scan fidelity. Kit conflicts: the kit's part-id grammar forbids the hyphen, so each giant-panda.* mesh sits inside a giantpanda.* wrapper group, and the GLB carries both names. family: characters makes the kit expect a craft (moving humanoid rig) document; the plan declares a static-sculpt craft block instead, and no rig exists. Remaining glb-lint warnings are covered by the plan overrides: 7 materials against the soft-clay default of 5, 110k triangles against the clay budget of 60k, and a 0.91 m height against the clay reference of 0.2 m.
