How it was made

The brief given to 1DesignTool's “3D object” template:

A realistic adult male Indian peafowl (Pavo cristatus) displaying, train fanned out behind it in a full upright semicircle. Anatomy: about 1.1 m tall body, the fanned train about 1.6 m wide, a small head with a fan-shaped crest of spatula-tipped feathers, a white patch around the eye, an iridescent blue neck and breast, barred brown wings, grey legs with spurs. Plumage: the train built from individual long feathers, each with an eyespot (ocellus) — dark blue centre, turquoise, bronze and green rings — on fine bronze-green barbs; iridescent sheen on the neck. Hard requirement: the exported GLB must contain more than 20,000 triangles — measure it before delivering; a lighter model is rejected.

Note: Exported GLB: 97,796 triangles, 20 meshes, 12 materials, 7.95 MB (7,950,404 bytes). Measured size: train 1.61 m wide, 1.42 m to the top of the train, crest top at 1.09 m, about 0.59 m front to back. Feet rest exactly on y = 0. Textures: 11, all generated in code at build time. The feather atlas is a 1024x2048 PNG (alpha mask, 3.3 MB). The train-back atlas is a 512x1024 PNG. Plumage, wing, leg-scute and iris colour and normal maps are JPEGs between 256 and 1024 px. Nothing is baked into the base colour. Part ids: node names carry the brief ids (indian-peacock.*). extras.partId carries the kit ids (indianpeacock.*), because the kit's id pattern forbids hyphens. Construction: the body, neck and head are one SDF surface-nets mesh (about 46k triangles), refined to about 2 mm around the head. The train is about 165 individual alpha-masked feather cards in nine staggered rows on a concave dish, with fishtail feathers at the outer edges and separate dull back faces. Behind them sit 18 rectrices. Honest limits: (1) Roughness is a scalar per material, not a texture map. Iridescence (KHR_materials_iridescence) and sheen give the neck its structural colour; it is an approximation, not a thin-film feather model. (2) The body plumage is a tiled scale texture on triplanar UVs, so faint projection seams show on the neck in close views. The body surface has no contour-feather cards, so its silhouette is smooth rather than feathery. (3) Train feathers are flat cards with painted barbs. At grazing angles they read as thin sheets, and alpha-test mipmapping turns the loose lower barbs into a solid vane at distance. (4) The beak is a smooth lofted keratin shape with painted gape and nostril marks, not sculpted openings. The eye is a clearcoat textured sphere with a lid ring, not separate eyelids. (5) There is no skeleton or rig. Train spread and length are build-time parameters only. (6) The fixed views crop the fan's outer edges at 390 px portrait width. This reads as a convincing stylised-realistic peacock, not a photographic one. glb-lint reported 0 errors. Its warnings: the triangle count and 12 materials exceed the soft-clay base defaults (60k and 5), which the plan overrides deliberately, and the scale heuristic compares against soft-clay's 0.2 m reference height.
