Trawlers

A low-poly 18 m stern trawler with a sea blue hull, a warm white wheelhouse forward, a derrick mast with two outrigger booms, a net drum full of rope tan net and a stern gantry with its trawl doors. It plays an 8 s loop: the booms swing, the net drum hauls in and pays out, the gantry tips over the stern, the radar turns and the propeller spins.

How it was made

The brief given to 1DesignTool's “3D object” template:

Trawlers for the Fishing Harbour kit. Design it as one clear asset at believable real-world scale for that setting (state the size in metres in meta.notes), with its main parts modelled and named, readable at thumbnail size and from every orbit angle. It moves: author a seamless baked loop (2–12 s) with every pivot exactly at its hinge, axle or swivel, and keep the base still. This is one part of the Fishing Harbour kit (Low-poly style, flat-lowpoly direction): Boats, nets and a sea wall. Use ONLY the kit palette, by name: sea blue #2e67b8, boat colours #988e81, rope tan #bf9769, grey stone #9c958b, sea blue dark #1f457a, boat colours dark #70685c, sea blue light #6190d1, boat colours light #b6b3af, soot black #1b1b22, warm white #f2ede2, mid grey #7d828c, dark wood #3d2a1c. Every material's `name` must be exactly the palette colour it uses — the GLB carries these names so the kit recolours as one; an unnamed material fails delivery. Kit knob: expose a param `tide` (0–1, default 0.5) for the kit's "Tide" setting wherever it makes sense on this part, and keep that id.

Note: Size: the hull is 18 m long overall with a 5.6 m beam (about 6.1 m over the tyre fenders). The working deck is about 2.05 m above the keel amidships, the bow rail rises to about 4 m, the wheelhouse roof is about 5.8 m up, and the masthead is the highest point at 9.25 m. At the default tide the outrigger booms span about 8 m. Origin: x and z are centred on the hull, y = 0 is the bottom of the keel and skeg, and the bow faces +Z. No water is included. The design waterline is 1.45 m above the keel, at the warm white boot top. The GLB has 4,585 triangles in 55 meshes (merged per part and colour) and one 8 s seamless clip, 'scene-motion'. In the clip, the radar turns twice about its pedestal, and each outrigger boom swings ±0.12 rad about its heel hinge pin at the mast foot. The net drum hauls in and pays out ±1.4 rad about its axle, the stern gantry tips aft about its two foot hinges carrying the trawl doors with it, and the propeller spins 6 turns about the shaft. The hull never moves. Every material is named exactly after a kit palette colour, and all 12 appear at the default. tide (the kit's 'Tide') sets how far the booms are let down from the mast: topped up near vertical at low water, spread out ready to fish at high water. It changes the boom pose only, not the hull. fishBoxes stacks 0–8 boxes on a dark wood grating; at 0 the grating alone remains. The rope tan warps from the gantry blocks to the net drum ride with the gantry, so they shift slightly against the drum during the loop. Params are baked into the GLB at their defaults and change the geometry only when the scene is rebuilt in the viewer. Both extremes (all-min and all-max) passed three-check. glb-lint: 0 errors and 5 heuristic warnings, all expected. They are: more than 10 material slots and duplicate-material sets (one material per mesh, 12 unique names); bounding-box overlap between nested parts; 'detached' heuristics for the funnel and radar, which sit on the wheelhouse part; and the scale check for a subject taller than 1 m. plan-check rejects only the hyphenated library part ids, because its regex allows no hyphen; a de-hyphenated copy of the plan passes. three-check and the GLB keep all 14 ids. Two fix rounds, both visual. Round one reframed the hero, top and back views and lowered the exposure to 0.8. Round two darkened the deck to boat colours dark so it reads against the pale ground.

About the Trawlers 3D model

Trawlers is a free animated low-poly 3D model from the Fishing Harbour set. It measures 9.8 m × 9.3 m × 18 m (W × H × D) at real-world scale and is built from 4,585 triangles across 55 meshes, with 14 named parts and a baked animation (8.0 s). Download the 364 KB GLB and drop it into three.js, React Three Fiber, Godot or Blender — free for commercial use, no attribution required.

Is the Trawlers 3D model free for commercial use?
Yes. It is free under the 1DesignTool 3D library license: use it in personal and commercial work — games, apps, websites, renders, ads and client projects — and modify it as you like, with no credit required. What you can't do is re-sell or re-distribute the file on its own or inside a model pack.
What file format is it, and how big is it?
A single binary glTF 2.0 file (.glb), 364 KB: 4,585 triangles, 7,549 vertices and 55 materials, modelled in metres at 9.8 m × 9.3 m × 18 m.
Is Trawlers animated?
Yes — the GLB carries a baked animation (8.0 s), ready to play with any glTF animation mixer.
Which engines and tools can open it?
Anything that reads glTF 2.0. three.js, React Three Fiber, Babylon.js, Godot 4 and Blender import the GLB directly; Unity and Unreal Engine load it through their glTF importers. The snippets above show the exact code for three.js, React Three Fiber, Godot and Blender.
How was the Trawlers 3D model made?
Claude Code (Claude Opus 5.5) generated it inside 1DesignTool's 3D template from a written brief, then the design kit's checks verified the geometry and the GLB before it was published. You can make your own the same way with 1DesignTool.
