Drawbridge

A low-poly balance-beam canal drawbridge on terracotta brick abutments. A green timber portal carries two long balance beams with counterweights, and iron rods hang from the beam tips to a dark-wood deck leaf that rises and lowers in a seamless 10-second loop. It is a modular Canal City piece that snaps to the quays on a 1 m grid.

How it was made

The brief given to 1DesignTool's “3D object” template:

Drawbridge for the Canal City kit. Design it as one clear asset at believable real-world scale for that setting (state the size in metres in meta.notes), with its main parts modelled and named, readable at thumbnail size and from every orbit angle. It is a modular piece that snaps on a 1 m grid: give it a length in whole metres and put the origin at its snapping end, stated in meta.notes. It moves: author a seamless baked loop (2–12 s) with every pivot exactly at its hinge, axle or swivel, and keep the base still. This is one part of the Canal City kit (Low-poly style, flat-lowpoly direction): A trading city of bridges and palaces. Use ONLY the kit palette, by name: terracotta #be5937, canal green #3a883a, stone white #f4f1ec, carnival gold #d0a225, terracotta dark #823d26, canal green dark #235223, terracotta light #d08971, canal green light #5db15d, soot black #1b1b22, warm white #f2ede2, mid grey #7d828c, dark wood #3d2a1c. Every material's `name` must be exactly the palette colour it uses — the GLB carries these names so the kit recolours as one; an unnamed material fails delivery. Kit knob: expose a param `waterLevel` (0–1, default 0.5) for the kit's "Water level" setting wherever it makes sense on this part, and keep that id.

Note: Size at the default params, at rest (closed): 14 m long (X), 6.04 m deep (Z) across the abutment coping, 7.45 m to the portal finials. The deck is 3.0 m wide at quay height 1.5 m. The near (hinge) abutment is 3 m long, the far one 2 m, and the canal gap between them is 9 m. Fully open (70°), the beam tips reach about 15 m. Snapping: the bridge runs along +X from its snapping end at x = 0 to x = length, always whole metres, so it lands on the kit's 1 m grid. The origin is at the snapping end (x = 0, centred across the depth, y = 0 at the foot of the abutments). This replaces the library's usual bottom-centre origin, because the brief asks for an end origin on modular pieces. Both end faces are flat, so the abutments butt against quay pieces. The side elevation faces +Z, and the canal runs along Z under the leaf. The model has no water, quay or ground. Motion: a 10 s seamless loop (closed hold, raise, open hold, lower, closed hold) baked as the clip 'scene-motion'. The leaf pivots on the hinge axis at the deck-top edge of the near abutment. The balance beams pivot on the portal axle 5 m directly above it, turning by the same angle. Each rod is pinned at its beam tip and counter-rotates, so the linkage is a true parallelogram and the rods hang plumb onto the leaf-tip pins. The abutments, portal, hinges and tide line never move. The GLB's static node pose is the t = 2 s frame (leaf about 14° up), because three-check exports after its determinism seek. That is why glb-lint reports bounds y up to 8.89 m. Play the clip or set t = 0 for the closed rest pose. The GLB has 1,576 triangles in 24 meshes (merged per part and colour), with flat normals baked in (non-indexed). Every material is named exactly after its kit palette colour (9 of the 12 are used). The exporter writes one material per mesh, so the same colour name appears on several materials: recolour by name. There is no text and no signage. Params are baked into the GLB at their defaults and only change geometry when the scene is rebuilt in the viewer. waterLevel (the kit's 'Water level') raises the green weed band on the abutments from 0.2 m to 0.85 m, always below the leaf girders. It does not add water. length (12–18 m) lengthens the leaf and the beams' front arms together, so the parallelogram holds. deckWidth (2.4–4.0 m) widens the leaf and moves the portal and beams out with it. openAngle (40–75°) sets how far the loop raises the leaf. Clearances (counterweights outside the posts, the leaf never behind its hinge face) were worked out for the full 0–75° range, but only the default params were captured. glb-lint: 0 errors and 6 heuristic warnings: material count and duplicate materials (from the per-mesh materials), unindexed geometry (flat shading on purpose), sibling overlap (plinths under posts, the axle through the posts), detached parts (the hinge barrels, wet line and rods are seated on or into other parts, not floating), and scale (compared with the direction's 1 m reference). plan-check passes except for its part-id regex, which rejects the hyphens this library's slug-based ids need. The same plan with the slug de-hyphenated passes. three-check accepts those ids, and all 9 survive the GLB reload.

About the Drawbridge 3D model

Drawbridge is a free animated low-poly 3D model from the Canal City set. It measures 14 m × 8.9 m × 6.0 m (W × H × D) at real-world scale and is built from 1,576 triangles across 24 meshes, with 9 named parts and a baked animation (10.0 s). Download the 155 KB GLB and drop it into three.js, React Three Fiber, Godot or Blender — free for commercial use, no attribution required.

Is the Drawbridge 3D model free for commercial use?
Yes. It is free under the 1DesignTool 3D library license: use it in personal and commercial work — games, apps, websites, renders, ads and client projects — and modify it as you like, with no credit required. What you can't do is re-sell or re-distribute the file on its own or inside a model pack.
What file format is it, and how big is it?
A single binary glTF 2.0 file (.glb), 155 KB: 1,576 triangles, 4,728 vertices and 24 materials, modelled in metres at 14 m × 8.9 m × 6.0 m.
Is Drawbridge animated?
Yes — the GLB carries a baked animation (10.0 s), ready to play with any glTF animation mixer.
Which engines and tools can open it?
Anything that reads glTF 2.0. three.js, React Three Fiber, Babylon.js, Godot 4 and Blender import the GLB directly; Unity and Unreal Engine load it through their glTF importers. The snippets above show the exact code for three.js, React Three Fiber, Godot and Blender.
How was the Drawbridge 3D model made?
Claude Code (Claude Opus 5.5) generated it inside 1DesignTool's 3D template from a written brief, then the design kit's checks verified the geometry and the GLB before it was published. You can make your own the same way with 1DesignTool.
