Gates

A low-poly timber enclosure gate for the Zoo kit. Two posts on stone footings carry a dark-wood header with an arched yellow paw sign, and two pointed-paling leaves swing open and shut in a seamless 8-second loop. It is a modular 4 m piece that snaps on a 1 m grid.

How it was made

The brief given to 1DesignTool's “3D object” template:

Gates for the Zoo kit. Design it as one clear asset at believable real-world scale for that setting (state the size in metres in meta.notes), with its main parts modelled and named, readable at thumbnail size and from every orbit angle. It is a modular piece that snaps on a 1 m grid: give it a length in whole metres and put the origin at its snapping end, stated in meta.notes. It moves: author a seamless baked loop (2–12 s) with every pivot exactly at its hinge, axle or swivel, and keep the base still. This is one part of the Zoo kit (Low-poly style, flat-lowpoly direction): Enclosures and winding paths. Use ONLY the kit palette, by name: leaf green #3a883a, sand #d1bd94, timber #765232, sign yellow #eecd2b, leaf green dark #235223, sand dark #ba9c5e, leaf green light #5db15d, sand light #e6ddcb, soot black #1b1b22, warm white #f2ede2, mid grey #7d828c, dark wood #3d2a1c. Every material's `name` must be exactly the palette colour it uses — the GLB carries these names so the kit recolours as one; an unnamed material fails delivery. Kit knob: expose a param `habitatMix` (0–1, default 0.5) for the kit's "Habitat mix" setting wherever it makes sense on this part, and keep that id.

Note: Size: 4 m long (a whole number of metres on the 1 m grid), 3.25 m tall to the top of the sign, and about 1.1 m deep without the leaves (footings and planting, z = -0.46 to +0.62). The opening between the posts is 3.38 m wide and each leaf is 1.68 m wide and 1.7 m tall. With the leaves fully open, the gate reaches about 1.75 m behind the posts (-Z). Origin: the snapping end, which is the left end seen from the front (x = 0), centred in depth, at ground level. The gate runs to x = 4, the front faces +Z and the model rests on y = 0. Nothing crosses x = 0 or x = length. Motion: one baked clip, 'gates-swing' (8 s, loops seamlessly; first and last keys are identical). Only the nodes leaf_left and leaf_right move. Each node's origin is its hinge-pin axis (x = 0.31 and x = 3.69, z = -0.06), so the swing is a pure Y rotation, and the base never moves. The leaves swing inward (-Z) to 85°, hold, and close; the right leaf trails by 0.24 s. The node rest rotation stored in the GLB is a mid-swing pose; play the clip to drive them. The GLB has 1,612 triangles in 20 meshes. Every material is named exactly after a kit palette colour (10 of the 12 are used; warm white and sand light are not). The exporter writes one material per mesh, so a colour name appears on more than one material: recolour by name. habitatMix (the kit's 'Habitat mix') sets the planting around the post bases: 0 gives sand mounds with grey rocks, 1 gives leafy bushes plus a creeper on the header and posts. All planting stays outside the leaves' swing. length (3–6 m, whole metres), openAngle and leafHeight rebuild the gate. Params are baked into the GLB at their defaults and only change geometry when the scene is rebuilt in the viewer; only the defaults were rendered and checked. glb-lint: 0 errors and 5 expected warnings: 20 per-mesh materials (over the direction's 10) sharing 10 colour names; non-indexed geometry (deliberate hard flat-shaded facets); overlapping sibling boxes (posts in footings, the header through the posts, hinge pins on the post faces, creeper on the beam); and a 3.25 m height against the direction's 1 m reference height. Viewer exposure is 0.72 (lowered from the direction's 1.05 so the kit colours don't wash out); that is staging only and not part of the GLB. plan-check rejects only the hyphenated library part ids, because its part-id regex allows no hyphen; the same plan with the slug de-hyphenated passes. three-check and the GLB reload keep all 19 planned ids.

About the Gates 3D model

Gates is a free animated low-poly 3D model from the Zoo set. It measures 4.0 m × 3.3 m × 2.3 m (W × H × D) at real-world scale and is built from 1,612 triangles across 20 meshes, with 24 named parts and a baked animation (8.0 s). Download the 138 KB GLB and drop it into three.js, React Three Fiber, Godot or Blender — free for commercial use, no attribution required.

Is the Gates 3D model free for commercial use?
Yes. It is free under the 1DesignTool 3D library license: use it in personal and commercial work — games, apps, websites, renders, ads and client projects — and modify it as you like, with no credit required. What you can't do is re-sell or re-distribute the file on its own or inside a model pack.
What file format is it, and how big is it?
A single binary glTF 2.0 file (.glb), 138 KB: 1,612 triangles, 4,836 vertices and 20 materials, modelled in metres at 4.0 m × 3.3 m × 2.3 m.
Is Gates animated?
Yes — the GLB carries a baked animation (8.0 s), ready to play with any glTF animation mixer.
Which engines and tools can open it?
Anything that reads glTF 2.0. three.js, React Three Fiber, Babylon.js, Godot 4 and Blender import the GLB directly; Unity and Unreal Engine load it through their glTF importers. The snippets above show the exact code for three.js, React Three Fiber, Godot and Blender.
How was the Gates 3D model made?
Claude Code (Claude Opus 5.5) generated it inside 1DesignTool's 3D template from a written brief, then the design kit's checks verified the geometry and the GLB before it was published. You can make your own the same way with 1DesignTool.
