Turning spit
A low-poly Norse spit roast for the Viking Fjord Village kit: a whole piglet lashed to an iron spit, resting in two forked timber posts over a stone-ringed log fire. The spit and piglet turn on a seamless 8-second loop while the posts and fire stay still.

The brief given to 1DesignTool's “3D object” template:
Turning spit for the Viking Fjord Village kit. Design it as one clear asset at believable real-world scale for that setting (state the size in metres in meta.notes), with its main parts modelled and named, readable at thumbnail size and from every orbit angle. It moves: author a seamless baked loop (2–12 s) with every pivot exactly at its hinge, axle or swivel, and keep the base still. This is one part of the Viking Fjord Village kit (Low-poly style, flat-lowpoly direction): Longhouses under steep cliffs. Use ONLY the kit palette, by name: timber brown #6b4a2e, slate #525e6f, sea grey #757e8a, rust red #c32222, timber brown dark #362517, slate dark #323943, timber brown light #9b704b, slate light #7b8593, soot black #1b1b22, warm white #f2ede2, mid grey #7d828c, dark wood #3d2a1c. Every material's `name` must be exactly the palette colour it uses — the GLB carries these names so the kit recolours as one; an unnamed material fails delivery. Kit knob: expose a param `season` (0–1, default 0.5) for the kit's "Season" setting wherever it makes sense on this part, and keep that id.

Note: Size at the defaults: about 2.05 m long (x, crank end to spit eye) × 1.1 m deep (z) × 1.14 m tall (y). The spit axis is 0.97 m up, the posts stand 1.6 m apart, the stone ring is about 1.1 m across, and the piglet is about 1.2 m nose to trotters. The front faces +Z, with the head to the left (−x) and the crank on the right (+x). The origin is at the bottom centre of the footprint, and everything rests on y = 0 with flat-clipped stone, log and post feet. The GLB has 3,556 triangles in 25 meshes. It carries one 8 s clip ('scene-motion'): the spit node (rod, collars and crank) makes one full turn about its own axis through both fork crotches, and the piglet is a child of the spit. The posts, stones, logs and flames never move. The exported static node pose is a quarter turn (the t = 2 s frame). Normals are flat-baked (non-indexed). Every material is named exactly after a kit palette colour; the exporter writes one material per mesh, so names repeat, and you should recolour by name. The flame and ember materials (rust red, warm white) have a mild emissive in their own colour; the other copies of those names are not emissive. season (the kit's 'Season', 0 = high summer, 1 = deep winter) caps the ring and footing stones with snow above 0.55. At the 0.5 default there is no snow, and the winter state was not rendered in this run. spitHeight raises the posts and the spit, roastSize scales the piglet, and fireSize scales the flames (capped so they always stay below the roast; at 0 only embers remain). Params are baked into the GLB at their defaults and only change the geometry when the scene is rebuilt in the viewer; the non-default extremes were not rendered in this run. glb-lint reports 0 errors and 4 expected heuristic warnings: more than 10 materials, duplicate material names, non-indexed flat shading, and overlapping sibling boxes (stones nest in the ring). plan-check rejects only the hyphenated library part ids, because its regex allows no hyphen; the same plan passes with the slug de-hyphenated, and three-check and the GLB keep all 9 ids. There was one fix round: the ring and footing stones were made smaller and lower so the fire reads as a ring rather than a heap of boulders.
About the Turning spit 3D model
Turning spit is a free animated low-poly 3D model from the Viking Fjord Village set. It measures 2.1 m × 1.1 m × 1.1 m (W × H × D) at real-world scale and is built from 3,556 triangles across 25 meshes, with 9 named parts and a baked animation (8.0 s). Download the 289 KB GLB and drop it into three.js, React Three Fiber, Godot or Blender — free for commercial use, no attribution required.
- Is the Turning spit 3D model free for commercial use?
- Yes. It is free under the 1DesignTool 3D library license: use it in personal and commercial work — games, apps, websites, renders, ads and client projects — and modify it as you like, with no credit required. What you can't do is re-sell or re-distribute the file on its own or inside a model pack.
- What file format is it, and how big is it?
- A single binary glTF 2.0 file (.glb), 289 KB: 3,556 triangles, 10,668 vertices and 25 materials, modelled in metres at 2.1 m × 1.1 m × 1.1 m.
- Is Turning spit animated?
- Yes — the GLB carries a baked animation (8.0 s), ready to play with any glTF animation mixer.
- Which engines and tools can open it?
- Anything that reads glTF 2.0. three.js, React Three Fiber, Babylon.js, Godot 4 and Blender import the GLB directly; Unity and Unreal Engine load it through their glTF importers. The snippets above show the exact code for three.js, React Three Fiber, Godot and Blender.
- How was the Turning spit 3D model made?
- Claude Code (Claude Opus 5.5) generated it inside 1DesignTool's 3D template from a written brief, then the design kit's checks verified the geometry and the GLB before it was published. You can make your own the same way with 1DesignTool.
