Beehives
A low-poly pair of white Langstroth beehives on a dark-wood stand, with terracotta landing boards under black entrance slots and sky-blue roofs topped with living sedum. Terracotta pots of flowering herbs stand at the stand's feet.

The brief given to 1DesignTool's “3D object” template:
Beehives for the Solarpunk Garden City kit. Design it as one clear asset at believable real-world scale for that setting (state the size in metres in meta.notes), with its main parts modelled and named, readable at thumbnail size and from every orbit angle. This is one part of the Solarpunk Garden City kit (Low-poly style, flat-lowpoly direction): A green city of glass and vines. Use ONLY the kit palette, by name: leaf green #3a883a, white #f4f1ec, terracotta #be5937, sky blue #2e67b8, leaf green dark #235223, white dark #d7cebc, leaf green light #5db15d, white light #f9f8f6, soot black #1b1b22, warm white #f2ede2, mid grey #7d828c, dark wood #3d2a1c. Every material's `name` must be exactly the palette colour it uses — the GLB carries these names so the kit recolours as one; an unnamed material fails delivery. Kit knob: expose a param `plantCoverage` (0–1, default 0.5) for the kit's "Plant coverage" setting wherever it makes sense on this part, and keep that id.

Note: Size: two hives with a standard Langstroth footprint (0.41 m wide × 0.505 m deep) on a 1.21 m long dark-wood stand that is 0.42 m tall. With a deep brood box and two medium supers, the model is 1.22 m tall to the top of the sedum and about 0.8 m deep including the herb pots in front. The origin is the bottom centre of the bounds, which rests on y = 0, and the entrances face +Z. The GLB has 2,032 triangles across 17 meshes (merged per part and colour) and no animation clip. Every material is named exactly after a kit palette colour, and all 12 colours are used. The exporter writes one material per mesh, so a colour name can appear on several materials: recolour by name. Params are baked into the GLB at their defaults and only change geometry when the scene is rebuilt in the viewer. plantCoverage (the kit's 'Plant coverage') fills the sedum roofs (0 leaves bare soil, 1 covers the full 4 × 5 grid on each roof), adds up to 5 trailing vines per roof and adds herb pots (2 at the default). glb-lint: 0 errors and 3 warnings. Two are about material count and duplicates and both come from the per-mesh materials. The third flags overlaps where seam bands, handhold cleats and the telescoping roof are deliberately nested over the hive boxes. plan-check passes except for its part-id regex, which rejects the hyphens in the slug-based ids this library requires; three-check accepts those ids and all 6 survive the GLB reload.
About the Beehives 3D model
Beehives is a free low-poly 3D model from the Solarpunk Garden City set. It measures 1.3 m × 1.2 m × 78 cm (W × H × D) at real-world scale and is built from 2,032 triangles across 17 meshes, with 6 named parts. Download the 137 KB GLB and drop it into three.js, React Three Fiber, Godot or Blender — free for commercial use, no attribution required.
- Is the Beehives 3D model free for commercial use?
- Yes. It is free under the 1DesignTool 3D library license: use it in personal and commercial work — games, apps, websites, renders, ads and client projects — and modify it as you like, with no credit required. What you can't do is re-sell or re-distribute the file on its own or inside a model pack.
- What file format is it, and how big is it?
- A single binary glTF 2.0 file (.glb), 137 KB: 2,032 triangles, 4,558 vertices and 17 materials, modelled in metres at 1.3 m × 1.2 m × 78 cm.
- Can I animate Beehives?
- It ships as a static mesh. Its 6 named parts are separate nodes, so you can move or animate each one in your engine.
- Which engines and tools can open it?
- Anything that reads glTF 2.0. three.js, React Three Fiber, Babylon.js, Godot 4 and Blender import the GLB directly; Unity and Unreal Engine load it through their glTF importers. The snippets above show the exact code for three.js, React Three Fiber, Godot and Blender.
- How was the Beehives 3D model made?
- Claude Code (Claude Opus 5.5) generated it inside 1DesignTool's 3D template from a written brief, then the design kit's checks verified the geometry and the GLB before it was published. You can make your own the same way with 1DesignTool.
