Canal boat

A low-poly solarpunk narrowboat with a green hull and terracotta coach line, a long white cabin with a row of sky-blue windows, and a roof garden beside solar panels, a stove chimney and a small wind turbine. Potted plants fill the bow deck. It comes with a seamless 6 s loop: the propeller and turbine turn while the tiller swings.

How it was made

The brief given to 1DesignTool's “3D object” template:

Canal boat for the Solarpunk Garden City kit. Design it as one clear asset at believable real-world scale for that setting (state the size in metres in meta.notes), with its main parts modelled and named, readable at thumbnail size and from every orbit angle. It moves: author a seamless baked loop (2–12 s) with every pivot exactly at its hinge, axle or swivel, and keep the base still. This is one part of the Solarpunk Garden City kit (Low-poly style, flat-lowpoly direction): A green city of glass and vines. Use ONLY the kit palette, by name: leaf green #3a883a, white #f4f1ec, terracotta #be5937, sky blue #2e67b8, leaf green dark #235223, white dark #d7cebc, leaf green light #5db15d, white light #f9f8f6, soot black #1b1b22, warm white #f2ede2, mid grey #7d828c, dark wood #3d2a1c. Every material's `name` must be exactly the palette colour it uses — the GLB carries these names so the kit recolours as one; an unnamed material fails delivery. Kit knob: expose a param `plantCoverage` (0–1, default 0.5) for the kit's "Plant coverage" setting wherever it makes sense on this part, and keep that id.

Note: Size: the hull is 9.0 m long with a 2.15 m beam over the gunwale lip. The deck is 0.9 m up, the cabin roof 2.14 m, and the turbine top 3.0 m. With the rudder hanging off the stern, the whole asset is 9.63 m long. Origin: x is centred and y = 0 is the flat hull bottom, so the boat rests on the ground. z = 0 is the midpoint of the hull length, so the rudder makes the bounding box run 0.3 m further aft. The bow faces +Z. Set the boat on its waterline in your own scene; no water is included. The GLB has 2,382 triangles in 43 meshes, merged per part and colour. It holds one baked 6 s clip, 'scene-motion'. In the clip the propeller turns exactly 6 times on its shaft (Z), the turbine rotor turns 2 times on its mast (Y), and the rudder and tiller swing ±0.3 rad as one piece about the rudder post (Y). The hull never moves. Every material is named exactly after a kit palette colour, and all 12 are used. The exporter writes one material per mesh, so a colour name repeats across materials: recolour by name. Params are baked into the GLB at their defaults and only change geometry when the scene is rebuilt in the viewer. plantCoverage (the kit's 'Plant coverage') sets the number and size of the roof-trough plants, the bow pots (1–5), the locker-top plants, the flowers and the vines trailing down the cabin sides. At 0 the troughs show bare soil and one pot remains. boatLength stretches the hull and cabin. solarPanels sets the panel count, but on short hulls the count is capped so the roof garden keeps its room (at 7 m only 1 panel fits). tillerSwing scales the rudder swing in the viewer loop; the GLB clip carries the full swing. glb-lint: 0 errors and 5 heuristic warnings. Two cover the material count and duplicate PBR values, both caused by the per-mesh materials. One flags overlaps where bands, sills and studs are deliberately nested in the hull. One flags the turbine mast as touching no sibling, but it stands on the roof, which is a separate part. The last compares the 3 m height with the direction's 1 m reference. plan-check passes except for its part-id regex, which rejects the hyphens in the slug-based ids this library requires. three-check accepts those ids, and all 12 survive the GLB reload.

About the Canal boat 3D model

Canal boat is a free animated low-poly 3D model from the Solarpunk Garden City set. It measures 2.2 m × 3.0 m × 9.7 m (W × H × D) at real-world scale and is built from 2,382 triangles across 43 meshes, with 12 named parts and a baked animation (6.0 s). Download the 198 KB GLB and drop it into three.js, React Three Fiber, Godot or Blender — free for commercial use, no attribution required.

Is the Canal boat 3D model free for commercial use?
Yes. It is free under the 1DesignTool 3D library license: use it in personal and commercial work — games, apps, websites, renders, ads and client projects — and modify it as you like, with no credit required. What you can't do is re-sell or re-distribute the file on its own or inside a model pack.
What file format is it, and how big is it?
A single binary glTF 2.0 file (.glb), 198 KB: 2,382 triangles, 4,952 vertices and 43 materials, modelled in metres at 2.2 m × 3.0 m × 9.7 m.
Is Canal boat animated?
Yes — the GLB carries a baked animation (6.0 s), ready to play with any glTF animation mixer.
Which engines and tools can open it?
Anything that reads glTF 2.0. three.js, React Three Fiber, Babylon.js, Godot 4 and Blender import the GLB directly; Unity and Unreal Engine load it through their glTF importers. The snippets above show the exact code for three.js, React Three Fiber, Godot and Blender.
How was the Canal boat 3D model made?
Claude Code (Claude Opus 5.5) generated it inside 1DesignTool's 3D template from a written brief, then the design kit's checks verified the geometry and the GLB before it was published. You can make your own the same way with 1DesignTool.
