Swaying grass

A low-poly savanna grass tussock whose arching golden blades and feathery seed heads sway in a seamless 6-second breeze loop. The dark root crown stays still, so it drops straight into a scene.

How it was made

The brief given to 1DesignTool's “3D object” template:

Swaying grass for the Savanna kit. Design it as one clear asset at believable real-world scale for that setting (state the size in metres in meta.notes), with its main parts modelled and named, readable at thumbnail size and from every orbit angle. It moves: author a seamless baked loop (2–12 s) with every pivot exactly at its hinge, axle or swivel, and keep the base still. This is one part of the Savanna kit (Low-poly style, flat-lowpoly direction): Golden grass and big animals. Use ONLY the kit palette, by name: straw gold #d0a225, acacia green #3a883a, earth red #c32222, dusk purple #572e6b, straw gold dark #8f7019, acacia green dark #235223, straw gold light #debd63, acacia green light #5db15d, soot black #1b1b22, warm white #f2ede2, mid grey #7d828c, dark wood #3d2a1c. Every material's `name` must be exactly the palette colour it uses — the GLB carries these names so the kit recolours as one; an unnamed material fails delivery. Kit knob: expose a param `dryOrWetSeason` (0–1, default 0.5) for the kit's "Dry or wet season" setting wherever it makes sense on this part, and keep that id.

Note: Size: about 1.4 × 1.4 m spread. The leaves reach about 1.1 m and the seed heads about 1.7 m, which is typical of savanna red-oat grass. Origin is at the bottom centre, it rests on y = 0 and the front faces +Z. The GLB has 1,614 triangles in 61 meshes and one 6 s looping clip named 'scene-motion' (rotation only). Rig: the root crown never moves. Blades are split into eight sheaves by direction, and each sheaf hinges inside the crown where its blades come out. Each seed stalk hinges at its foot, and each seed head swivels at its stalk tip, so the heads nod a beat behind the stalks. A gust travels from -X to +X. Every material is named exactly after a kit palette colour. The exporter writes one material per mesh, so names repeat; recolour by name. dryOrWetSeason (the kit's 'Dry or wet season') greens each blade from the foot up: 0 is mostly gold and 1 is all green. Above 0.85 the stalks turn acacia green dark, and the seed heads stay straw gold light in every season. Params are baked into the GLB at their defaults and change the model only when the scene is rebuilt in the viewer. swayStrength changes only the viewer motion and the baked clip amplitude. Only the defaults were rendered and checked. glb-lint: 0 errors and 5 expected warnings: material count over the direction default of 10 and duplicate materials (both from the one-material-per-mesh export; there are only 7 distinct colours), non-indexed geometry (kept for hard flat facets), overlapping sibling boxes (the sheaves interleave by design), and seed heads flagged as detached, although each one starts inside its stalk tip. plan-check rejects only the hyphenated library part ids (its regex allows no hyphen); the same plan with the slug de-hyphenated passes. three-check and the GLB reload keep all 22 ids.

About the Swaying grass 3D model

Swaying grass is a free animated low-poly 3D model from the Savanna set. It measures 1.3 m × 1.7 m × 1.2 m (W × H × D) at real-world scale and is built from 1,614 triangles across 61 meshes, with 22 named parts and a baked animation (6.0 s). Download the 221 KB GLB and drop it into three.js, React Three Fiber, Godot or Blender — free for commercial use, no attribution required.

Is the Swaying grass 3D model free for commercial use?
Yes. It is free under the 1DesignTool 3D library license: use it in personal and commercial work — games, apps, websites, renders, ads and client projects — and modify it as you like, with no credit required. What you can't do is re-sell or re-distribute the file on its own or inside a model pack.
What file format is it, and how big is it?
A single binary glTF 2.0 file (.glb), 221 KB: 1,614 triangles, 4,842 vertices and 61 materials, modelled in metres at 1.3 m × 1.7 m × 1.2 m.
Is Swaying grass animated?
Yes — the GLB carries a baked animation (6.0 s), ready to play with any glTF animation mixer.
Which engines and tools can open it?
Anything that reads glTF 2.0. three.js, React Three Fiber, Babylon.js, Godot 4 and Blender import the GLB directly; Unity and Unreal Engine load it through their glTF importers. The snippets above show the exact code for three.js, React Three Fiber, Godot and Blender.
How was the Swaying grass 3D model made?
Claude Code (Claude Opus 5.5) generated it inside 1DesignTool's 3D template from a written brief, then the design kit's checks verified the geometry and the GLB before it was published. You can make your own the same way with 1DesignTool.
