Signal box

A low-poly British railway signal box. It has a brick locking room below and a glazed, green-boarded operating floor above, under a slate gable roof with cream bargeboards and finials, plus a front walkway, an outside stair to the end door and a rack of red fire buckets.

How it was made

The brief given to 1DesignTool's “3D object” template:

Signal box for the Railway Station kit. Design it as one clear asset at believable real-world scale for that setting (state the size in metres in meta.notes), with its main parts modelled and named, readable at thumbnail size and from every orbit angle. This is one part of the Railway Station kit (Low-poly style, flat-lowpoly direction): Platforms, signals and a grand hall. Use ONLY the kit palette, by name: brick #9e3d2e, iron green #3a883a, cream #f1e7d0, signal red #e90c0c, brick dark #63261d, iron green dark #235223, brick light #c66253, iron green light #5db15d, soot black #1b1b22, warm white #f2ede2, mid grey #7d828c, dark wood #3d2a1c. Every material's `name` must be exactly the palette colour it uses — the GLB carries these names so the kit recolours as one; an unnamed material fails delivery. Kit knob: expose a param `era` (0–1, default 0.5) for the kit's "Era" setting wherever it makes sense on this part, and keep that id.

Note: Size: 7.9 m wide (x), 6.4 m deep (z) and 8.2 m tall to the chimney pot (default params). The box itself is 6.4 m x 3.6 m (four 1.6 m lever-frame bays). The brick locking room is 3.0 m tall, the operating floor is 2.65 m to the wall plate, and the 32° slate roof has 0.45 m eaves and 0.35 m verges. A 0.6 m walkway runs along the front. The stair runs from behind the box up the +x end to a landing at the operating-floor door. The front faces +Z, the origin is at the bottom centre of the footprint (stair and landing included) and the model rests on y = 0. The GLB has 3,480 triangles in 35 meshes (merged per part and colour), about 4,100 with every param at its maximum, and no animation clip. Normals are baked flat (non-indexed), so the facets survive in any engine. Every material is named exactly after its kit palette colour, and all 12 kit colours are used. The exporter writes one material per mesh, so the same name appears on several materials: recolour by name. There is no text: the nameboard is deliberately blank for you to label, and windows are opaque soot black with no interior. Params are baked into the GLB at their defaults and only change geometry when the scene is rebuilt in the viewer. era (the kit's 'Era') runs from an early box (0: small panes, deep bargeboards, finials, brick chimney) to a later one (1: large undivided panes, plain bargeboards, no finials, iron stove pipe). The chimney switches at 0.6 and the finials drop at 0.8. bays (3–6) sets the box length and the number of front windows. baseHeight (2.6–4.0 m) raises the operating floor, and the stair lengthens to match. glb-lint: 0 errors and 5 heuristic warnings (material count, duplicate per-mesh materials, unindexed flat-shaded geometry, sibling overlap from trims embedded in walls on purpose, and scale compared with the direction's 1 m reference). plan-check passes except for its part-id regex, which rejects the hyphens this library's slug-based ids need. The same plan with the slug de-hyphenated passes. three-check accepts those ids, and all 10 survive the GLB reload.

About the Signal box 3D model

Signal box is a free low-poly 3D model from the Railway Station set. It measures 7.9 m × 8.2 m × 6.4 m (W × H × D) at real-world scale and is built from 3,480 triangles across 35 meshes, with 10 named parts. Download the 274 KB GLB and drop it into three.js, React Three Fiber, Godot or Blender — free for commercial use, no attribution required.

Is the Signal box 3D model free for commercial use?
Yes. It is free under the 1DesignTool 3D library license: use it in personal and commercial work — games, apps, websites, renders, ads and client projects — and modify it as you like, with no credit required. What you can't do is re-sell or re-distribute the file on its own or inside a model pack.
What file format is it, and how big is it?
A single binary glTF 2.0 file (.glb), 274 KB: 3,480 triangles, 10,440 vertices and 35 materials, modelled in metres at 7.9 m × 8.2 m × 6.4 m.
Can I animate Signal box?
It ships as a static mesh. Its 10 named parts are separate nodes, so you can move or animate each one in your engine.
Which engines and tools can open it?
Anything that reads glTF 2.0. three.js, React Three Fiber, Babylon.js, Godot 4 and Blender import the GLB directly; Unity and Unreal Engine load it through their glTF importers. The snippets above show the exact code for three.js, React Three Fiber, Godot and Blender.
How was the Signal box 3D model made?
Claude Code (Claude Opus 5.5) generated it inside 1DesignTool's 3D template from a written brief, then the design kit's checks verified the geometry and the GLB before it was published. You can make your own the same way with 1DesignTool.
