Rotating drill
A low-poly offshore top-drive drilling unit for an oil rig. A rust-orange mast stands on a braced steel drill floor; the top drive hangs from wire lines and spins a drill string down through a yellow rotary table to a tri-cone bit working in the conductor below.

Left rail: colours and the 4 knobs the agent wrote into this model — they rebuild the geometry and go into your download. Right rail: looks for the viewer. Drag to orbit, scroll to zoom.

The brief given to 1DesignTool's “3D object” template:
Rotating drill for the Oil Rig kit. Design it as one clear asset at believable real-world scale for that setting (state the size in metres in meta.notes), with its main parts modelled and named, readable at thumbnail size and from every orbit angle. It moves: author a seamless baked loop (2–12 s) with every pivot exactly at its hinge, axle or swivel, and keep the base still. This is one part of the Oil Rig kit (Low-poly style, flat-lowpoly direction): A steel island in rough water. Use ONLY the kit palette, by name: rust orange #ed7e1d, sea grey #757e8a, yellow #eecd2b, white #f4f1ec, rust orange dark #af590e, sea grey dark #525860, rust orange light #eea668, sea grey light #a3a5a8, soot black #1b1b22, warm white #f2ede2, mid grey #7d828c, dark wood #3d2a1c. Every material's `name` must be exactly the palette colour it uses — the GLB carries these names so the kit recolours as one; an unnamed material fails delivery. Kit knob: expose a param `seaState` (0–1, default 0.5) for the kit's "Sea state" setting wherever it makes sense on this part, and keep that id.

Note: Size: a 3.2 × 3.2 m substructure with the drill floor 2.4 m up and a 7.5 m mast, 10.4 m tall to the crown sheaves; the open front of the substructure faces +Z, the mast stands at the back, and the origin is at the bottom centre, resting on y = 0. The exported model has 1,992 triangles in 32 meshes (merged per part and colour), flat normals baked in (non-indexed). Motion: one 6 s seamless clip 'scene-motion'. The drill string and rotary table turn two whole turns clockwise (seen from above) about the well axis, the top drive (with the string as its child) heaves down and back along the mast rails on a cosine stroke, and the hoist lines scale along Y from their anchor under the crown sheaves so they stay attached to the travelling block. The substructure, drill floor and mast carry constant channels and never move. seaState (the kit's Sea state knob) sets that heave-compensation stroke, from 0.12 m at 0 to 0.6 m at 1, where the bit dips into the conductor bore. mastHeight and deckHeight resize the unit; turns sets whole turns per loop (1–4) so the loop stays seamless. Params change geometry only when the scene is rebuilt in the viewer; the GLB is baked at the defaults. Both extremes passed three-check and glb-lint (seaState 1, 6 m mast, 1.8 m floor, 4 turns; and seaState 0, 9 m mast, 2.6 m floor, 1 turn). Every material is named exactly after its kit palette colour; 10 of the 12 kit colours are used (warm white and dark wood are not). The exporter writes one material per mesh, so the same colour name appears on several materials: recolour by name. glb-lint reports 0 errors and 6 heuristic warnings: material count and duplicate materials (one material per mesh), unindexed geometry (flat shading on purpose), sibling overlap (columns, girders and braces nest on purpose), a detached-parts flag on the hoist lines (they hang from the crown sheaves, which sit in the mast part), and a scale flag for a 10 m subject. It also gives its standing 'no requirements contract' UNVERIFIED verdict. plan-check passes except for its part-id regex, which rejects the hyphens this library's slug-based ids need; the same plan with the slug de-hyphenated passes. The viewer renders at exposure 0.62 on a ground disc that is not part of the GLB.
About the Rotating drill 3D model
Rotating drill is a free animated low-poly 3D model from the Oil Rig set. It measures 3.3 m × 10 m × 3.7 m (W × H × D) at real-world scale and is built from 1,992 triangles across 32 meshes, with 8 named parts and a baked animation (6.0 s). Download the 189 KB GLB and drop it into three.js, React Three Fiber, Godot or Blender — free for commercial use, no attribution required.
- Is the Rotating drill 3D model free for commercial use?
- Yes. It is free under the 1DesignTool 3D library license: use it in personal and commercial work — games, apps, websites, renders, ads and client projects — and modify it as you like, with no credit required. What you can't do is re-sell or re-distribute the file on its own or inside a model pack.
- What file format is it, and how big is it?
- A single binary glTF 2.0 file (.glb), 189 KB: 1,992 triangles, 5,976 vertices and 32 materials, modelled in metres at 3.3 m × 10 m × 3.7 m.
- Is Rotating drill animated?
- Yes — the GLB carries a baked animation (6.0 s), ready to play with any glTF animation mixer.
- Which engines and tools can open it?
- Anything that reads glTF 2.0. three.js, React Three Fiber, Babylon.js, Godot 4 and Blender import the GLB directly; Unity and Unreal Engine load it through their glTF importers. The snippets above show the exact code for three.js, React Three Fiber, Godot and Blender.
- How was the Rotating drill 3D model made?
- Claude Code (Claude Opus 5.5) generated it inside 1DesignTool's 3D template from a written brief, then the design kit's checks verified the geometry and the GLB before it was published. You can make your own the same way with 1DesignTool.
