Crane
A low-poly offshore pedestal crane for an oil rig: a sea grey pedestal with a railed walkway, a slewing rust orange machinery house with an operator cab and an A-frame, and a long yellow lattice boom with a hook block on its rope. A seamless 10 s loop slews, luffs, hoists and sways the hook while the pedestal stays still.

Left rail: colours and the 4 knobs the agent wrote into this model — they rebuild the geometry and go into your download. Right rail: looks for the viewer. Drag to orbit, scroll to zoom.

The brief given to 1DesignTool's “3D object” template:
Crane for the Oil Rig kit. Design it as one clear asset at believable real-world scale for that setting (state the size in metres in meta.notes), with its main parts modelled and named, readable at thumbnail size and from every orbit angle. It moves: author a seamless baked loop (2–12 s) with every pivot exactly at its hinge, axle or swivel, and keep the base still. This is one part of the Oil Rig kit (Low-poly style, flat-lowpoly direction): A steel island in rough water. Use ONLY the kit palette, by name: rust orange #ed7e1d, sea grey #757e8a, yellow #eecd2b, white #f4f1ec, rust orange dark #af590e, sea grey dark #525860, rust orange light #eea668, sea grey light #a3a5a8, soot black #1b1b22, warm white #f2ede2, mid grey #7d828c, dark wood #3d2a1c. Every material's `name` must be exactly the palette colour it uses — the GLB carries these names so the kit recolours as one; an unnamed material fails delivery. Kit knob: expose a param `seaState` (0–1, default 0.5) for the kit's "Sea state" setting wherever it makes sense on this part, and keep that id.

Note: Size: 34.7 m to the boom tip at rest (luff 48°; up to about 37 m at the top of the luff swing), on an 8.5 m pedestal with a 5.4 m base flange. The boom is 32 m long and the hook hangs about 24 m out from the slewing axis at rest. The origin is on the slewing axis at the bottom of the pedestal, on y = 0, so the crane slews about its own origin; the boom faces +Z at rest. The GLB has 3,384 triangles in 29 meshes (merged per part and colour) and a 10 s looping clip 'scene-motion' with 27 tracks. The house (with A-frame, pendants and boom) slews ±40° on the slewing bearing, the boom luffs 48° ± 10° on its foot pins, the pendants pivot on the A-frame sheave axle and stretch to the tip eye, the hook fall hangs plumb from the tip sheave axle and the hook block hoists 8–16 m below it on a rope stretched by node scale. The pedestal never moves. The GLB's static node transforms hold the pose at the moment of export (mid-loop), not the rest pose; play the clip or seek to 0 for the rest pose. seaState (the kit's Sea state knob) sets how hard the hook block sways in the loop (about 2° at 0 to 12° at 1); it has no geometry of its own, and the GLB clip is baked at 0.5. boomLength, slewSweep and luffSwing are baked at their defaults and only change the model when the scene is rebuilt in the viewer. All-min and all-max settings pass three-check. Every material is named exactly after its kit palette colour; 10 of the 12 kit colours are used (sea grey light and dark wood are not). The exporter writes one material per mesh, so recolour by name. Normals are baked flat (non-indexed). glb-lint: 0 errors and 6 heuristic warnings (per-mesh materials, unindexed flat geometry, nested parts overlapping by design, the pendants and hoist rope 'detached' because they hang from pinned nodes, and scale compared with the direction's 1 m reference). plan-check passes with the slug de-hyphenated in the part ids (its id regex rejects the hyphens this library needs); three-check accepts the hyphenated ids and all 9 survive the GLB reload. No deck, sea or load is included.
About the Crane 3D model
Crane is a free animated low-poly 3D model from the Oil Rig set. It measures 20 m × 37 m × 25 m (W × H × D) at real-world scale and is built from 3,384 triangles across 29 meshes, with 9 named parts and a baked animation (10.0 s). Download the 300 KB GLB and drop it into three.js, React Three Fiber, Godot or Blender — free for commercial use, no attribution required.
- Is the Crane 3D model free for commercial use?
- Yes. It is free under the 1DesignTool 3D library license: use it in personal and commercial work — games, apps, websites, renders, ads and client projects — and modify it as you like, with no credit required. What you can't do is re-sell or re-distribute the file on its own or inside a model pack.
- What file format is it, and how big is it?
- A single binary glTF 2.0 file (.glb), 300 KB: 3,384 triangles, 10,152 vertices and 29 materials, modelled in metres at 20 m × 37 m × 25 m.
- Is Crane animated?
- Yes — the GLB carries a baked animation (10.0 s), ready to play with any glTF animation mixer.
- Which engines and tools can open it?
- Anything that reads glTF 2.0. three.js, React Three Fiber, Babylon.js, Godot 4 and Blender import the GLB directly; Unity and Unreal Engine load it through their glTF importers. The snippets above show the exact code for three.js, React Three Fiber, Godot and Blender.
- How was the Crane 3D model made?
- Claude Code (Claude Opus 5.5) generated it inside 1DesignTool's 3D template from a written brief, then the design kit's checks verified the geometry and the GLB before it was published. You can make your own the same way with 1DesignTool.
