Helicopter

A low-poly medium twin-engine offshore crew helicopter in white and rust orange, with a five-blade yellow-tipped main rotor, a tail rotor on an orange fin, side sponsons carrying the main wheels and flotation gear, a twin nose wheel and a sliding cabin door. It ships with a seamless 6 s loop of both rotors turning.

How it was made

The brief given to 1DesignTool's “3D object” template:

Helicopter for the Oil Rig kit. Design it as one clear asset at believable real-world scale for that setting (state the size in metres in meta.notes), with its main parts modelled and named, readable at thumbnail size and from every orbit angle. It moves: author a seamless baked loop (2–12 s) with every pivot exactly at its hinge, axle or swivel, and keep the base still. This is one part of the Oil Rig kit (Low-poly style, flat-lowpoly direction): A steel island in rough water. Use ONLY the kit palette, by name: rust orange #ed7e1d, sea grey #757e8a, yellow #eecd2b, white #f4f1ec, rust orange dark #af590e, sea grey dark #525860, rust orange light #eea668, sea grey light #a3a5a8, soot black #1b1b22, warm white #f2ede2, mid grey #7d828c, dark wood #3d2a1c. Every material's `name` must be exactly the palette colour it uses — the GLB carries these names so the kit recolours as one; an unnamed material fails delivery. Kit knob: expose a param `seaState` (0–1, default 0.5) for the kit's "Sea state" setting wherever it makes sense on this part, and keep that id.

Note: Size: 4.03 m tall to the rotor-hub cap, a 14.75 m airframe from nose to fin (about 16 m long with the rotors turning) under a 13.8 m main rotor; a medium offshore helicopter that fits the kit's 22 m helideck. Origin at the bottom centre with all three gear legs on y = 0, nose facing +Z. The GLB has 1,660 triangles in 30 meshes and one 6 s looping clip ('scene-motion'): the main rotor turns 6 times about its mast and the tail rotor 18 times about its gearbox axis. Airframe and gear never move. The static node pose in the GLB is the t = 2 s frame (the checker exports after its determinism seek). seaState (the kit's 'Sea state') arms the emergency flotation: at or below 0.5 the bags stay stowed as slim packs on the sponson covers, and from 0.5 to 1 they swell into full yellow floats outboard of the sponsons. rotorBlades, rotorDiameter and doorOpen reshape the model. All params are baked into the GLB at their defaults and only change geometry when the scene is rebuilt in the viewer. Every material is named exactly after a kit palette colour (9 of the 12 are used; sea grey, warm white and dark wood are not). Only rust orange light is emissive. The exporter writes one material per mesh, so names repeat: recolour by name. The viewer's staging ground and light rig are not in the GLB. glb-lint reports 0 errors and 6 warnings, all expected: the material count and duplicate materials come from the per-part, per-colour meshes; geometry is non-indexed on purpose for flat facets; overlaps are windows, cheat lines and the cowling sitting on the fuselage; 'detached' flags the windows, rotor cap and stowed float packs, which sit flush on meshes in other parts; the height warning compares against a 1 m reference. Its verdict reads UNVERIFIED only because no requirements contract was supplied. plan-check fails only because its part-id regex allows no hyphen, which the required 'oil-rig-helicopter.*' ids contain; it raises no other errors.

About the Helicopter 3D model

Helicopter is a free animated low-poly 3D model from the Oil Rig set. It measures 13 m × 4.0 m × 16 m (W × H × D) at real-world scale and is built from 1,660 triangles across 30 meshes, with 11 named parts and a baked animation (6.0 s). Download the 165 KB GLB and drop it into three.js, React Three Fiber, Godot or Blender — free for commercial use, no attribution required.

Is the Helicopter 3D model free for commercial use?
Yes. It is free under the 1DesignTool 3D library license: use it in personal and commercial work — games, apps, websites, renders, ads and client projects — and modify it as you like, with no credit required. What you can't do is re-sell or re-distribute the file on its own or inside a model pack.
What file format is it, and how big is it?
A single binary glTF 2.0 file (.glb), 165 KB: 1,660 triangles, 4,980 vertices and 30 materials, modelled in metres at 13 m × 4.0 m × 16 m.
Is Helicopter animated?
Yes — the GLB carries a baked animation (6.0 s), ready to play with any glTF animation mixer.
Which engines and tools can open it?
Anything that reads glTF 2.0. three.js, React Three Fiber, Babylon.js, Godot 4 and Blender import the GLB directly; Unity and Unreal Engine load it through their glTF importers. The snippets above show the exact code for three.js, React Three Fiber, Godot and Blender.
How was the Helicopter 3D model made?
Claude Code (Claude Opus 5.5) generated it inside 1DesignTool's 3D template from a written brief, then the design kit's checks verified the geometry and the GLB before it was published. You can make your own the same way with 1DesignTool.
