Lifeboats' racks
A low-poly offshore lifeboat station for an oil rig. Two enclosed orange survival craft hang in wire falls under yellow davit arms on a steel skid, with a railed embarkation gangway, a ladder and a winch per bay.

Left rail: colours and the 3 knobs the agent wrote into this model — they rebuild the geometry and go into your download. Right rail: looks for the viewer. Drag to orbit, scroll to zoom.

The brief given to 1DesignTool's “3D object” template:
Lifeboats' racks for the Oil Rig kit. Design it as one clear asset at believable real-world scale for that setting (state the size in metres in meta.notes), with its main parts modelled and named, readable at thumbnail size and from every orbit angle. This is one part of the Oil Rig kit (Low-poly style, flat-lowpoly direction): A steel island in rough water. Use ONLY the kit palette, by name: rust orange #ed7e1d, sea grey #757e8a, yellow #eecd2b, white #f4f1ec, rust orange dark #af590e, sea grey dark #525860, rust orange light #eea668, sea grey light #a3a5a8, soot black #1b1b22, warm white #f2ede2, mid grey #7d828c, dark wood #3d2a1c. Every material's `name` must be exactly the palette colour it uses — the GLB carries these names so the kit recolours as one; an unnamed material fails delivery. Kit knob: expose a param `seaState` (0–1, default 0.5) for the kit's "Sea state" setting wherever it makes sense on this part, and keep that id.

Note: Size: 22.0 m long (X) × 6.2 m deep (Z) × 6.9 m tall with the default two 8.5 m lifeboats (3.1 m beam, about 3.2 m tall to the hatch). The sea side, where the boats would lower, faces +Z; the gangway and winches are at the back (−Z) and the ladder is at the −X end. The origin is at the bottom centre, resting on y = 0. The exported model has 1,976 triangles in 23 meshes (merged per part and colour), with no animation clip and flat normals baked in (non-indexed); all node transforms are baked into the vertices. Every material is named exactly after its kit palette colour; 9 of the 12 kit colours are used (warm white, rust orange light and dark wood are not). The exporter writes one material per mesh, so the same colour name appears on several materials: recolour by name. The boats hang in their falls clear of the skid (they are not floating: each is held by two wire falls to the head beam). seaState (the kit's Sea state knob) only swings the hanging boats outboard about the fall heads, from 0° at 0 to 6° at 1 (3° at the default); it has no sea surface to drive. boatCount adds davit bays along X; boatLength scales the boats and the bay pitch, gangway depth and frame depth with them. Params change geometry only when the scene is rebuilt in the viewer; the GLB is baked at the defaults. Both extremes passed three-check: (seaState 0, 1 boat, 6.5 m: 1,144 triangles) and (seaState 1, 3 boats, 10 m: 2,820 triangles). glb-lint reports 0 errors and 5 heuristic warnings: material count and duplicate materials (one material per mesh), unindexed geometry (flat shading on purpose), sibling overlap (frame posts, arms and struts meet on purpose) and scale (compared with the direction's 1 m reference). It also gives its standing 'no requirements contract' UNVERIFIED verdict. plan-check passes except for its part-id regex, which rejects the hyphens that this library's slug-based ids need; the same plan with the slug de-hyphenated passes. The viewer renders at exposure 0.62 on a tinted ground disc; neither is part of the GLB.
About the Lifeboats' racks 3D model
Lifeboats' racks is a free low-poly 3D model from the Oil Rig set. It measures 22 m × 6.9 m × 6.2 m (W × H × D) at real-world scale and is built from 1,976 triangles across 23 meshes, with 8 named parts. Download the 159 KB GLB and drop it into three.js, React Three Fiber, Godot or Blender — free for commercial use, no attribution required.
- Is the Lifeboats' racks 3D model free for commercial use?
- Yes. It is free under the 1DesignTool 3D library license: use it in personal and commercial work — games, apps, websites, renders, ads and client projects — and modify it as you like, with no credit required. What you can't do is re-sell or re-distribute the file on its own or inside a model pack.
- What file format is it, and how big is it?
- A single binary glTF 2.0 file (.glb), 159 KB: 1,976 triangles, 5,928 vertices and 23 materials, modelled in metres at 22 m × 6.9 m × 6.2 m.
- Can I animate Lifeboats' racks?
- It ships as a static mesh. Its 8 named parts are separate nodes, so you can move or animate each one in your engine.
- Which engines and tools can open it?
- Anything that reads glTF 2.0. three.js, React Three Fiber, Babylon.js, Godot 4 and Blender import the GLB directly; Unity and Unreal Engine load it through their glTF importers. The snippets above show the exact code for three.js, React Three Fiber, Godot and Blender.
- How was the Lifeboats' racks 3D model made?
- Claude Code (Claude Opus 5.5) generated it inside 1DesignTool's 3D template from a written brief, then the design kit's checks verified the geometry and the GLB before it was published. You can make your own the same way with 1DesignTool.
