Drums

A low-poly offshore drum store for the Oil Rig kit: four 200-litre steel drums standing on a bunded spill pallet with a grating deck, lashed together with a ratchet strap. You can change the drum count, remove the pallet, and add a second strap for heavier seas.

How it was made

The brief given to 1DesignTool's “3D object” template:

Drums for the Oil Rig kit. Design it as one clear asset at believable real-world scale for that setting (state the size in metres in meta.notes), with its main parts modelled and named, readable at thumbnail size and from every orbit angle. This is one part of the Oil Rig kit (Low-poly style, flat-lowpoly direction): A steel island in rough water. Use ONLY the kit palette, by name: rust orange #ed7e1d, sea grey #757e8a, yellow #eecd2b, white #f4f1ec, rust orange dark #af590e, sea grey dark #525860, rust orange light #eea668, sea grey light #a3a5a8, soot black #1b1b22, warm white #f2ede2, mid grey #7d828c, dark wood #3d2a1c. Every material's `name` must be exactly the palette colour it uses — the GLB carries these names so the kit recolours as one; an unnamed material fails delivery. Kit knob: expose a param `seaState` (0–1, default 0.5) for the kit's "Sea state" setting wherever it makes sense on this part, and keep that id.

Note: Size: each drum is a standard 200 L (55 US gal) steel drum, 0.585 m across the rims and 0.88 m tall. The four-drum spill pallet is 1.38 m square and 0.30 m tall to the lip, and the drums stand on its grating at 0.26 m, so the whole asset is about 1.38 m × 1.38 m × 1.14 m. The origin is at the bottom centre and the asset rests on y = 0 (GLB bounds y 0.000–1.140), with the front facing +Z. The GLB has 2,568 triangles in 28 meshes, is static and has no animation clip. three-check's 2.86k figure includes the viewer's staging ground, which is not exported. Every material is named exactly after a kit palette colour. The default build uses 8 of the 12 colours (white, rust orange light, sea grey light and dark wood are unused). The exporter writes one material per mesh, so a colour name can appear on more than one material; recolour by name. seaState (the kit's 'Sea state') sets the lashing: below 0.6 one ratchet strap goes round the drums between the hoops, and from 0.6 a second strap goes on near the heads. drumCount (1–4) arranges the drums as a single drum, a pair, a triangle or a 2×2 block, and the strap always follows their outer hull. spillPallet = 0 stands the drums straight on the ground. Params are baked into the GLB at their build values, so with fewer drums or no pallet those part ids are absent; renders at those settings (1 drum at sea 1, 3 drums at sea 0, 2 drums at sea 0.8 with no pallet) are clean and only report the removed planned ids as missing. glb-lint: 0 errors and 5 expected warnings: material count and duplicate names (from the per-mesh export), non-indexed geometry (deliberate flat facets), nested boxes (hoops and rims on the shells), and 'detached' drum meshes (each drum stands on the grating, which belongs to a different part). plan-check rejects only the hyphenated library part ids because its regex allows no hyphen; the same plan with the slug de-hyphenated passes. Fix round 1 widened the hero framing (the pallet was cropped) and put the two orange drums on a diagonal. Fix round 2 made the strap walk the drum hull counter-clockwise; before that it looped around each drum and left hidden geometry.

About the Drums 3D model

Drums is a free low-poly 3D model from the Oil Rig set. It measures 1.4 m × 1.1 m × 1.4 m (W × H × D) at real-world scale and is built from 2,568 triangles across 28 meshes, with 20 named parts. Download the 207 KB GLB and drop it into three.js, React Three Fiber, Godot or Blender — free for commercial use, no attribution required.

Is the Drums 3D model free for commercial use?
Yes. It is free under the 1DesignTool 3D library license: use it in personal and commercial work — games, apps, websites, renders, ads and client projects — and modify it as you like, with no credit required. What you can't do is re-sell or re-distribute the file on its own or inside a model pack.
What file format is it, and how big is it?
A single binary glTF 2.0 file (.glb), 207 KB: 2,568 triangles, 7,704 vertices and 28 materials, modelled in metres at 1.4 m × 1.1 m × 1.4 m.
Can I animate Drums?
It ships as a static mesh. Its 20 named parts are separate nodes, so you can move or animate each one in your engine.
Which engines and tools can open it?
Anything that reads glTF 2.0. three.js, React Three Fiber, Babylon.js, Godot 4 and Blender import the GLB directly; Unity and Unreal Engine load it through their glTF importers. The snippets above show the exact code for three.js, React Three Fiber, Godot and Blender.
How was the Drums 3D model made?
Claude Code (Claude Opus 5.5) generated it inside 1DesignTool's 3D template from a written brief, then the design kit's checks verified the geometry and the GLB before it was published. You can make your own the same way with 1DesignTool.
