Drill tower
A low-poly offshore drilling derrick for the Oil Rig kit. A tapered rust-orange lattice tower stands on a braced steel substructure over a yellow blowout preventer. It has a drill floor with drawworks, a driller's cabin, a stair and railings, racked pipe stands under the monkeyboard, a yellow crown block on top and a travelling block with a top drive hanging on wire lines.

Left rail: colours and the 4 knobs the agent wrote into this model — they rebuild the geometry and go into your download. Right rail: looks for the viewer. Drag to orbit, scroll to zoom.

The brief given to 1DesignTool's “3D object” template:
Drill tower for the Oil Rig kit. Design it as one clear asset at believable real-world scale for that setting (state the size in metres in meta.notes), with its main parts modelled and named, readable at thumbnail size and from every orbit angle. This is one part of the Oil Rig kit (Low-poly style, flat-lowpoly direction): A steel island in rough water. Use ONLY the kit palette, by name: rust orange #ed7e1d, sea grey #757e8a, yellow #eecd2b, white #f4f1ec, rust orange dark #af590e, sea grey dark #525860, rust orange light #eea668, sea grey light #a3a5a8, soot black #1b1b22, warm white #f2ede2, mid grey #7d828c, dark wood #3d2a1c. Every material's `name` must be exactly the palette colour it uses — the GLB carries these names so the kit recolours as one; an unnamed material fails delivery. Kit knob: expose a param `seaState` (0–1, default 0.5) for the kit's "Sea state" setting wherever it makes sense on this part, and keep that id.

Note: Size at the defaults: 14.2 m wide (x) × 10.4 m deep (z) × 45.7 m tall to the top of the crown gin pole. The drill floor is at 6 m, and the derrick rises 36 m above it, tapering from an 8.6 m to a 2.8 m leg spacing. The V-door (open lowest front bay) faces +Z, the drawworks sits at the back, the driller's cabin is on a wing to +X and the stair climbs the -X side. The origin is the bottom centre of the footprint's bounding box on y = 0. Because the cabin wing and stair are asymmetric, the well centre (rotary table and BOP) sits 0.7 m to -X of the origin. The substructure columns, BOP and stair rest on y = 0, so the model stands on the platform deck. The GLB has 4356 triangles in 29 meshes, one mesh per part and colour. It is static and carries no animation clip. Normals are baked flat (non-indexed). Every material is named exactly after the kit palette colour it uses, and 11 of the 12 palette colours appear (dark wood is not used). seaState (the kit's 'Sea state') raises the storm wind walls on the side and back faces. At 0 they are a 1.2 m kick skirt, at 0.5 they reach about 10 m, and at 1 they clad the lower 55% of the derrick. derrickHeight scales the lattice, and the monkeyboard and pipe stands follow it at 66% of the derrick height. pipeStands racks 2–24 stands, split evenly between the two sides of the setback. blockHeight moves the travelling block, top drive and drill pipe between the floor and the crown. Params are baked into the GLB at their defaults, and change the geometry only when the scene is rebuilt in the viewer. three-check also passed with every param at its minimum and at its maximum. glb-lint: 0 errors and 6 heuristic warnings, all expected. They are: material slot count (29 meshes sharing 11 palette names), duplicate material names, non-indexed flat shading, overlapping sibling boxes (the BOP rams and cabin windows are nested on purpose), 'detached' meshes (contact is with other parts, e.g. the derrick stands on the drill floor), and the scale heuristic flagging 45.7 m against a 1 m reference. plan-check rejects only the hyphenated library part ids, because its regex allows no hyphen. The same plan passes with the slug de-hyphenated. three-check and the GLB keep all 14 ids. One fix round: the wind walls changed from white to rust orange light, because white vanished against the pale backdrop, and they moved in to touch the legs. The top view was also framed tighter.
About the Drill tower 3D model
Drill tower is a free low-poly 3D model from the Oil Rig set. It measures 14 m × 46 m × 10 m (W × H × D) at real-world scale and is built from 4,356 triangles across 29 meshes, with 14 named parts. Download the 436 KB GLB and drop it into three.js, React Three Fiber, Godot or Blender — free for commercial use, no attribution required.
- Is the Drill tower 3D model free for commercial use?
- Yes. It is free under the 1DesignTool 3D library license: use it in personal and commercial work — games, apps, websites, renders, ads and client projects — and modify it as you like, with no credit required. What you can't do is re-sell or re-distribute the file on its own or inside a model pack.
- What file format is it, and how big is it?
- A single binary glTF 2.0 file (.glb), 436 KB: 4,356 triangles, 13,068 vertices and 29 materials, modelled in metres at 14 m × 46 m × 10 m.
- Can I animate Drill tower?
- It ships as a static mesh. Its 14 named parts are separate nodes, so you can move or animate each one in your engine.
- Which engines and tools can open it?
- Anything that reads glTF 2.0. three.js, React Three Fiber, Babylon.js, Godot 4 and Blender import the GLB directly; Unity and Unreal Engine load it through their glTF importers. The snippets above show the exact code for three.js, React Three Fiber, Godot and Blender.
- How was the Drill tower 3D model made?
- Claude Code (Claude Opus 5.5) generated it inside 1DesignTool's 3D template from a written brief, then the design kit's checks verified the geometry and the GLB before it was published. You can make your own the same way with 1DesignTool.
