Spoil heaps
A low-poly benched waste-rock dump: two streaked lifts tipped at the angle of repose, with slate rock below and fresh ochre spoil on top. A haul road winds up the outside, and on the flat top a yellow haul truck tips its load over the crest while a dozer pushes spoil. Two older conical tip heaps stand against its toe.

Left rail: colours and the 5 knobs the agent wrote into this model — they rebuild the geometry and go into your download. Right rail: looks for the viewer. Drag to orbit, scroll to zoom.

The brief given to 1DesignTool's “3D object” template:
Spoil heaps for the Mine and Quarry kit. Design it as one clear asset at believable real-world scale for that setting (state the size in metres in meta.notes), with its main parts modelled and named, readable at thumbnail size and from every orbit angle. This is one part of the Mine and Quarry kit (Low-poly style, flat-lowpoly direction): Rock, dust and heavy machines. Use ONLY the kit palette, by name: ochre #bd8728, slate #525e6f, machine yellow #eecd2b, rust #9b4427, ochre dark #7e5a1b, slate dark #323943, ochre light #d6a95c, slate light #7b8593, soot black #1b1b22, warm white #f2ede2, mid grey #7d828c, dark wood #3d2a1c. Every material's `name` must be exactly the palette colour it uses — the GLB carries these names so the kit recolours as one; an unnamed material fails delivery. Kit knob: expose a param `oreColour` (0–1, default 0.5) for the kit's "Ore colour" setting wherever it makes sense on this part, and keep that id.

Note: Size: 126 m wide (x) by 109 m deep (z), including the two tip heaps. The dump's flat top is at 22 m (two 11 m lifts with faces at about 40°, the angle of repose for coarse waste rock, and a 5 m berm between them). The raised tipper body reaches 30.35 m. The haul truck is about 9 m long and the dozer about 6 m, which gives the scale. The haul ramp's foot faces +Z, and the origin is at the bottom centre, resting on y = 0. The exported model has 1,724 triangles in 27 meshes (merged per part and colour), with no animation clip and flat normals baked in (non-indexed). Every material is named exactly after its kit palette colour; 11 of the 12 kit colours are used (dark wood is not). The exporter writes one material per mesh, so the same colour name appears on several materials: recolour by name. oreColour works in steps and colours the low-grade ore tip heap, the dumped loads and the truck's load and spill: below 0.2 slate light, 0.2–0.4 ochre light, 0.4–0.6 rust (the default and the GLB), 0.6–0.8 ochre, and 0.8 and up machine yellow. lifts (1–3) and liftHeight rebuild the dump and its winding ramps. dumpedLoads places up to 24 loads, limited by the free space on the top; with 3 short lifts there is room for fewer. tipHeaps shows 0–2 side heaps. Params change geometry only when the scene is rebuilt in the viewer; the GLB is baked at the defaults. Both extremes passed three-check: 3 lifts × 14 m with 24 loads and ore 1, and 1 lift × 7 m with 0 loads. The ramp is 1 in 5, steeper than a real haul road, so it fits on the kit piece. glb-lint: 0 errors. Its 6 heuristic warnings are expected: material count and duplicate materials (one material per mesh), unindexed geometry (flat shading on purpose), sibling overlap (the ramp and streak meshes share the dump on purpose), detached parts (the berms, top and loads sit on the dump, not on the ground plane) and scale (compared with the direction's 1 m reference). It also gives its usual 'no requirements contract' UNVERIFIED verdict. three-check passes 24 of 24 checks; its triangle figure includes the viewer's staging ground, which is not exported. plan-check passes except for its part-id regex, which rejects the hyphens that this library's slug-based ids need; the same plan with the slug de-hyphenated passes. The viewer renders at exposure 0.62 on a darker ground disc; neither is part of the GLB.
About the Spoil heaps 3D model
Spoil heaps is a free low-poly 3D model from the Mine and Quarry set. It measures 126 m × 30 m × 109 m (W × H × D) at real-world scale and is built from 1,724 triangles across 27 meshes, with 9 named parts. Download the 145 KB GLB and drop it into three.js, React Three Fiber, Godot or Blender — free for commercial use, no attribution required.
- Is the Spoil heaps 3D model free for commercial use?
- Yes. It is free under the 1DesignTool 3D library license: use it in personal and commercial work — games, apps, websites, renders, ads and client projects — and modify it as you like, with no credit required. What you can't do is re-sell or re-distribute the file on its own or inside a model pack.
- What file format is it, and how big is it?
- A single binary glTF 2.0 file (.glb), 145 KB: 1,724 triangles, 5,172 vertices and 27 materials, modelled in metres at 126 m × 30 m × 109 m.
- Can I animate Spoil heaps?
- It ships as a static mesh. Its 9 named parts are separate nodes, so you can move or animate each one in your engine.
- Which engines and tools can open it?
- Anything that reads glTF 2.0. three.js, React Three Fiber, Babylon.js, Godot 4 and Blender import the GLB directly; Unity and Unreal Engine load it through their glTF importers. The snippets above show the exact code for three.js, React Three Fiber, Godot and Blender.
- How was the Spoil heaps 3D model made?
- Claude Code (Claude Opus 5.5) generated it inside 1DesignTool's 3D template from a written brief, then the design kit's checks verified the geometry and the GLB before it was published. You can make your own the same way with 1DesignTool.
