Headframe

A low-poly steel mine-shaft headframe: a rust-red lattice tower over the shaft collar carries two yellow sheave wheels, and backstay legs lean back toward a winder house. Hoist ropes run from two cages in the shaft over the wheels to the winder, and an ore bin on legs stands beside the tower.

How it was made

The brief given to 1DesignTool's “3D object” template:

Headframe for the Mine and Quarry kit. Design it as one clear asset at believable real-world scale for that setting (state the size in metres in meta.notes), with its main parts modelled and named, readable at thumbnail size and from every orbit angle. This is one part of the Mine and Quarry kit (Low-poly style, flat-lowpoly direction): Rock, dust and heavy machines. Use ONLY the kit palette, by name: ochre #bd8728, slate #525e6f, machine yellow #eecd2b, rust #9b4427, ochre dark #7e5a1b, slate dark #323943, ochre light #d6a95c, slate light #7b8593, soot black #1b1b22, warm white #f2ede2, mid grey #7d828c, dark wood #3d2a1c. Every material's `name` must be exactly the palette colour it uses — the GLB carries these names so the kit recolours as one; an unnamed material fails delivery. Kit knob: expose a param `oreColour` (0–1, default 0.5) for the kit's "Ore colour" setting wherever it makes sense on this part, and keep that id.

Note: Size: 15.95 m wide (x), 31.07 m deep (z) and 26.8 m tall to the sheave crowns. The head deck sits at 22 m, the two sheaves are 4 m across, and the tower tapers from 6 m square at the collar to 4 m at the deck. The cage side faces +Z and the winder house sits behind, toward -Z. The origin is at the bottom centre, resting on y = 0. The exported model has 3,018 triangles in 32 meshes (merged per part and colour), with no animation clip and flat normals baked in (non-indexed). Every material is named exactly after its kit palette colour; 10 of the 12 kit colours are used (ochre and ochre dark only appear when chosen through oreColour). The exporter writes one material per mesh, so the same colour name appears on several materials: recolour by name. oreColour works in steps and colours only the ore heaped in the bin: below 0.2 slate light, 0.2–0.4 ochre light, 0.4–0.6 rust (the default and the GLB), 0.6–0.8 ochre, and 0.8 and up machine yellow. towerHeight rebuilds the tower, backstays, ropes and winder-house position. sheaveDiameter resizes the wheels and re-runs the ropes. cageLevel raises one cage while the other drops, because they are counterbalanced. Params change geometry only when the scene is rebuilt in the viewer; the GLB is baked at the defaults. Both extremes (16 m / 3 m / cage 0 / ore 0 and 30 m / 5 m / cage 1 / ore 1) were captured and passed three-check. glb-lint: 0 errors and 6 heuristic warnings: duplicate materials (per-mesh materials), unindexed geometry (flat shading on purpose), sibling overlap (braces and legs meet on purpose), detached parts (the ropes hang from the sheaves rather than reaching the ground), scale (compared with the direction's 1 m reference), plus its standing 'no requirements contract' UNVERIFIED verdict. three-check passes 24 of 24 checks; its triangle figure includes the viewer's staging ground, which is not exported. plan-check passes except for its part-id regex, which rejects the hyphens that this library's slug-based ids need; the same plan with the slug de-hyphenated passes. The viewer renders at exposure 0.66 on a darker ground disc; neither is part of the GLB.

About the Headframe 3D model

Headframe is a free low-poly 3D model from the Mine and Quarry set. It measures 16 m × 27 m × 31 m (W × H × D) at real-world scale and is built from 3,018 triangles across 32 meshes, with 10 named parts. Download the 239 KB GLB and drop it into three.js, React Three Fiber, Godot or Blender — free for commercial use, no attribution required.

Is the Headframe 3D model free for commercial use?
Yes. It is free under the 1DesignTool 3D library license: use it in personal and commercial work — games, apps, websites, renders, ads and client projects — and modify it as you like, with no credit required. What you can't do is re-sell or re-distribute the file on its own or inside a model pack.
What file format is it, and how big is it?
A single binary glTF 2.0 file (.glb), 239 KB: 3,018 triangles, 9,054 vertices and 32 materials, modelled in metres at 16 m × 27 m × 31 m.
Can I animate Headframe?
It ships as a static mesh. Its 10 named parts are separate nodes, so you can move or animate each one in your engine.
Which engines and tools can open it?
Anything that reads glTF 2.0. three.js, React Three Fiber, Babylon.js, Godot 4 and Blender import the GLB directly; Unity and Unreal Engine load it through their glTF importers. The snippets above show the exact code for three.js, React Three Fiber, Godot and Blender.
How was the Headframe 3D model made?
Claude Code (Claude Opus 5.5) generated it inside 1DesignTool's 3D template from a written brief, then the design kit's checks verified the geometry and the GLB before it was published. You can make your own the same way with 1DesignTool.
