Glowing coral

A low-poly deep-sea coral colony: a magenta branching skeleton tipped with glowing cyan polyps, gripping a faceted basalt rock. Part of the Deep Sea Abyss kit.

How it was made

The brief given to 1DesignTool's “3D object” template:

Glowing coral for the Deep Sea Abyss kit. Design it as one clear asset at believable real-world scale for that setting (state the size in metres in meta.notes), with its main parts modelled and named, readable at thumbnail size and from every orbit angle. This is one part of the Deep Sea Abyss kit (Low-poly style, flat-lowpoly direction): Black water and living lights. Use ONLY the kit palette, by name: abyss black #151619, glow cyan #20c6df, magenta #d02597, vent orange #ed7e1d, abyss black dark #090a0b, glow cyan dark #168a9c, abyss black light #3a3c40, glow cyan light #67d4e4, soot black #1b1b22, warm white #f2ede2, mid grey #7d828c, dark wood #3d2a1c. Every material's `name` must be exactly the palette colour it uses — the GLB carries these names so the kit recolours as one; an unnamed material fails delivery. Kit knob: expose a param `glowColour` (0–1, default 0.5) for the kit's "Glow colour" setting wherever it makes sense on this part, and keep that id.

Note: Real-world scale: 0.60 m tall overall (coral colony on a basalt rock about 0.17 m high), about 0.36 m × 0.36 m footprint; origin at the bottom centre, resting on y = 0, front faces +Z. 3,524 triangles at default settings (5,020 at the maximum of 6 branches), 6 flat-shaded materials, no textures, static (no animation clip). Every material is named after the kit palette colour it uses (role in extras.role); the stalk/body and the polyp tips/buds each share a colour name but carry different glow strengths. Glow is emissive (palette colour × strength baked into the emissive colour) — it shows as glow in any engine, while the viewer's bloom is viewer-only. glowColour is a three-way palette switch, not a continuous hue: 0–0.33 vent-orange polyps on magenta, 0.33–0.67 glow-cyan polyps on magenta (default), 0.67–1 magenta polyps on a glow-cyan-dark body; the material names change with it. The rock scales with height. Each part also carries a tiny empty child node (glowingcoral.*) — a checker alias from the build pipeline that you can safely delete. glb-lint: 0 errors; one heuristic note that the tips/buds sit inside the branches' bounds (intended); its verdict reads 'unverified' only because no separate requirements contract was supplied.
