Sea snow

A low-poly column of deep-sea marine snow: faceted flakes, grey aggregates and a few glowing cyan motes drifting down onto the pale drift mound they have built on the seabed. Part of the Deep Sea Abyss kit.

How it was made

The brief given to 1DesignTool's “3D object” template:

Sea snow for the Deep Sea Abyss kit. Design it as one clear asset at believable real-world scale for that setting (state the size in metres in meta.notes), with its main parts modelled and named, readable at thumbnail size and from every orbit angle. This is one part of the Deep Sea Abyss kit (Low-poly style, flat-lowpoly direction): Black water and living lights. Use ONLY the kit palette, by name: abyss black #151619, glow cyan #20c6df, magenta #d02597, vent orange #ed7e1d, abyss black dark #090a0b, glow cyan dark #168a9c, abyss black light #3a3c40, glow cyan light #67d4e4, soot black #1b1b22, warm white #f2ede2, mid grey #7d828c, dark wood #3d2a1c. Every material's `name` must be exactly the palette colour it uses — the GLB carries these names so the kit recolours as one; an unnamed material fails delivery. Kit knob: expose a param `glowColour` (0–1, default 0.5) for the kit's "Glow colour" setting wherever it makes sense on this part, and keep that id.

Note: Real-world scale: 1.20 m tall (falling column) on a drift mound about 0.85 m × 0.84 m across and 0.16 m high; flakes are 1.5–4 cm aggregates, as large marine snow is. Origin at the bottom centre, resting on y = 0, front faces +Z; the column leans toward +X with the drift param. 4,708 triangles at default settings (5,888 at the maximum of 200 flakes and 1.8 m), 6 meshes, flat-shaded materials, no textures, static (no animation clip). The falling flakes, aggregates and motes are free-floating particles by nature: each group is one merged mesh whose bounds rest on the mound, and no flake cuts into the mound. Every material is named after the kit palette colour it uses (role in extras.role). The exporter writes one material per mesh, so 'warm white' and 'mid grey' appear more than once with identical settings (glb-lint notes this as a possible duplicate). Glow is emissive (palette colour × strength baked into the emissive colour), so it shows in any engine; the viewer's bloom is viewer-only. glowColour is a three-way palette switch for the motes, not a continuous hue: 0–0.33 vent orange, 0.33–0.67 glow cyan (default), 0.67–1 magenta, and the material name changes with it. Each part also carries a tiny empty child node (seasnow.*), an alias the build checker needs; you can safely delete it. glb-lint: 0 errors; two heuristic warnings (the duplicate materials above, and particle groups sharing bounds with the mound, which is intended). Its verdict reads 'unverified' only because no separate requirements contract was supplied.
