Windmill
A low-poly farm tower mill: a whitewashed octagonal tower on a stone plinth, a dark timber cap with a fantail, and four lattice sails with red canvas. It comes with a seamless 8-second loop of the sails turning.

The brief given to 1DesignTool's “3D object” template:
Windmill for the Autumn Orchard kit. Design it as one clear asset at believable real-world scale for that setting (state the size in metres in meta.notes), with its main parts modelled and named, readable at thumbnail size and from every orbit angle. It moves: author a seamless baked loop (2–12 s) with every pivot exactly at its hinge, axle or swivel, and keep the base still. This is one part of the Autumn Orchard kit (Low-poly style, flat-lowpoly direction): Harvest time on a small farm. Use ONLY the kit palette, by name: russet #988e81, apple red #c32222, gold #d0a225, cream #f1e7d0, russet dark #70685c, apple red dark #821717, russet light #b6b3af, apple red light #db5757, soot black #1b1b22, warm white #f2ede2, mid grey #7d828c, dark wood #3d2a1c. Every material's `name` must be exactly the palette colour it uses — the GLB carries these names so the kit recolours as one; an unnamed material fails delivery. Kit knob: expose a param `season` (0–1, default 0.5) for the kit's "Season" setting wherever it makes sense on this part, and keep that id.

Note: Size at the defaults: the tower is 6.5 m tall to the curb and about 4.8 m across its stone plinth. The cap tops out at about 8.5 m. The sail hub is 7.5 m up, and the four 5.4 m sails sweep a disc about 10.8 m across. The exported pose is 12.24 m tall, and about 12.9 m with one sail vertical. The footprint is about 9.4 m wide (x) by 7.3 m deep (z), from the fantail at the back to the sails at the front. The origin is the tower's bottom centre on y = 0, and the sails face +Z. The GLB has 2,896 triangles in 22 meshes and one 8 s clip ('scene-motion') that loops seamlessly. In it, the sails make one full turn clockwise (seen from the front) about the windshaft axle, which is tilted up 9° so the lowest sail clears the battered tower. The fantail makes four turns about its own axle, and the cap swivels ±4° about the tower axis. Each pivot node sits exactly on its axle or swivel: cap at (0, 6.7, 0); sails at (0, 0.8, 2.45) in the cap; fantail at (0, 2.25, −3.0) in the cap. The sails and fantail are children of the cap, so they follow its swivel. The plinth, tower, door, windows, creeper and sacks never move. Normals are baked flat (non-indexed). Each material is named exactly after a kit palette colour, but the exporter writes one material per mesh, so names repeat; recolour by name. season (the kit's 'Season', 0 = late summer, 1 = late autumn) turns the creeper's leaves from gold through apple red light and apple red to apple red dark, and piles the grain sacks by the door up from one to four (two at the default). towerHeight raises the curb, cap and hub. sailLength is capped so the lowest sail tip always stays at least 0.6 m above the ground. sailCount sets 4–6 sails. canvas reefs the sail cloth from fully spread (1) to furled along the whip (0). Params are baked into the GLB at their defaults and change the geometry only when the scene is rebuilt in the viewer; only the defaults were rendered and checked. glb-lint: 0 errors, plus 5 expected heuristic warnings: more than 10 materials with duplicate names (one per mesh), non-indexed flat shading, overlapping sibling boxes (frames around panes and doors, plinth under tower), and a scale note because the model is 12 m tall rather than about 1 m. plan-check passes except for its part-id regex, which rejects the hyphens in the slug-based ids this library requires; the same plan with the slug de-hyphenated passes. three-check accepts those ids, and all 9 survive the GLB reload. Fix rounds: (1) the hero and back views were tightened (margin 0.95 to 0.8); the creeper was rebuilt as three climbing vines with paired leaves instead of a heap; and the sacks were made russet blocks instead of cream eggs. (2) The sacks were rebuilt as bellied lathe forms with tied necks.
About the Windmill 3D model
Windmill is a free animated low-poly 3D model from the Autumn Orchard set. It measures 9.6 m × 12 m × 7.7 m (W × H × D) at real-world scale and is built from 2,896 triangles across 22 meshes, with 9 named parts and a baked animation (8.0 s). Download the 244 KB GLB and drop it into three.js, React Three Fiber, Godot or Blender — free for commercial use, no attribution required.
- Is the Windmill 3D model free for commercial use?
- Yes. It is free under the 1DesignTool 3D library license: use it in personal and commercial work — games, apps, websites, renders, ads and client projects — and modify it as you like, with no credit required. What you can't do is re-sell or re-distribute the file on its own or inside a model pack.
- What file format is it, and how big is it?
- A single binary glTF 2.0 file (.glb), 244 KB: 2,896 triangles, 8,688 vertices and 22 materials, modelled in metres at 9.6 m × 12 m × 7.7 m.
- Is Windmill animated?
- Yes — the GLB carries a baked animation (8.0 s), ready to play with any glTF animation mixer.
- Which engines and tools can open it?
- Anything that reads glTF 2.0. three.js, React Three Fiber, Babylon.js, Godot 4 and Blender import the GLB directly; Unity and Unreal Engine load it through their glTF importers. The snippets above show the exact code for three.js, React Three Fiber, Godot and Blender.
- How was the Windmill 3D model made?
- Claude Code (Claude Opus 5.5) generated it inside 1DesignTool's 3D template from a written brief, then the design kit's checks verified the geometry and the GLB before it was published. You can make your own the same way with 1DesignTool.
