Falling leaves

A low-poly autumn leaf fall: gold, apple-red and russet orchard leaves swing down in a side-to-side pendulum flutter onto a pile of fallen leaves with a twig and a windfall apple. It carries a seamless 8 s loop.

How it was made

The brief given to 1DesignTool's “3D object” template:

Falling leaves for the Autumn Orchard kit. Design it as one clear asset at believable real-world scale for that setting (state the size in metres in meta.notes), with its main parts modelled and named, readable at thumbnail size and from every orbit angle. It moves: author a seamless baked loop (2–12 s) with every pivot exactly at its hinge, axle or swivel, and keep the base still. This is one part of the Autumn Orchard kit (Low-poly style, flat-lowpoly direction): Harvest time on a small farm. Use ONLY the kit palette, by name: russet #988e81, apple red #c32222, gold #d0a225, cream #f1e7d0, russet dark #70685c, apple red dark #821717, russet light #b6b3af, apple red light #db5757, soot black #1b1b22, warm white #f2ede2, mid grey #7d828c, dark wood #3d2a1c. Every material's `name` must be exactly the palette colour it uses — the GLB carries these names so the kit recolours as one; an unnamed material fails delivery. Kit knob: expose a param `season` (0–1, default 0.5) for the kit's "Season" setting wherever it makes sense on this part, and keep that id.

Note: Size at the defaults: the leaf pile is about 1.1 m across and 0.12 m high, and the leaves start falling from 1.3 m, so the animated volume is 1.34 m tall. Each leaf is an apple-tree leaf about 15 cm long, folded along its midrib, with a closed 4 mm-thick blade and a short stem. Front faces +Z, and the origin is at the bottom centre of the pile, resting on y = 0. Motion: a seamless 8 s clip called 'scene-motion'. Each falling leaf is its own node, pivoted at its own centre. It grows from a speck at the top, swings down in two or three pendulum swings while banking into each swing, settles flat on the pile, then shrinks back to a speck. The leaves are staggered across the loop. The litter, twig and apple never move. Shrinking is how the loop hides the reset, so a leaf's node scale passes through 0.001 once per loop: keep the clip's scale channels when retargeting. The static node pose in the GLB is the t = 2 s frame, so the leaves sit mid-fall until the clip plays. The falling leaves are deliberately detached from the base, because they are in the air. season (the kit's 'Season', 0 = late summer, 1 = late autumn) shifts the leaf colour mix from mostly gold, through reds, to russets. It also sets how many leaves fall (5 + round(6 × season): 8 at the default) and how many lie in the pile (34 to 68). Because it changes the count, the leaf_N part ids change with it. fallHeight (1.0–2.4 m) sets where the leaves start, leafSize (8–20 cm) the leaf length, and litter (0.35–0.9 m) the pile radius. Params are baked into the GLB at their defaults and only change the geometry when the scene is rebuilt in the viewer. Only the defaults were rendered and checked. The GLB has 4,622 triangles in 39 meshes (one per part and colour) and no textures. Normals are baked flat (non-indexed). Every material is named exactly after its kit palette colour, and 9 of the 12 are used. The exporter writes one material per mesh, so names repeat: recolour by name. glb-lint reports 0 errors. Its 4 warnings are heuristic and expected: material count over the direction's default of 10 (one material per mesh), duplicate material names, deliberate non-indexed flat shading, and overlapping sibling bounding boxes (leaves lie on the mound). The verdict reads UNVERIFIED only because no requirements contract was supplied. plan-check rejects only the hyphenated library part ids, because its regex allows no hyphen; the same plan with the slug de-hyphenated passes. three-check accepts the ids, and all 12 survive the GLB reload. Fix rounds: (1) set an explicit seasonal colour mix (the first version had no gold), made the mound dark wood, lowered the exposure to 0.6, softened the leaf banking and tightened the fall column; (2) loosened the hero so the front of the pile is no longer cropped, removed pale flat facets from the mound and added more pile leaves.

About the Falling leaves 3D model

Falling leaves is a free animated low-poly 3D model from the Autumn Orchard set. It measures 1.1 m × 1.3 m × 1.2 m (W × H × D) at real-world scale and is built from 4,622 triangles across 39 meshes, with 12 named parts and a baked animation (8.0 s). Download the 433 KB GLB and drop it into three.js, React Three Fiber, Godot or Blender — free for commercial use, no attribution required.

Is the Falling leaves 3D model free for commercial use?
Yes. It is free under the 1DesignTool 3D library license: use it in personal and commercial work — games, apps, websites, renders, ads and client projects — and modify it as you like, with no credit required. What you can't do is re-sell or re-distribute the file on its own or inside a model pack.
What file format is it, and how big is it?
A single binary glTF 2.0 file (.glb), 433 KB: 4,622 triangles, 13,866 vertices and 39 materials, modelled in metres at 1.1 m × 1.3 m × 1.2 m.
Is Falling leaves animated?
Yes — the GLB carries a baked animation (8.0 s), ready to play with any glTF animation mixer.
Which engines and tools can open it?
Anything that reads glTF 2.0. three.js, React Three Fiber, Babylon.js, Godot 4 and Blender import the GLB directly; Unity and Unreal Engine load it through their glTF importers. The snippets above show the exact code for three.js, React Three Fiber, Godot and Blender.
How was the Falling leaves 3D model made?
Claude Code (Claude Opus 5.5) generated it inside 1DesignTool's 3D template from a written brief, then the design kit's checks verified the geometry and the GLB before it was published. You can make your own the same way with 1DesignTool.
