Crates

A low-poly pyramid stack of three slatted wooden orchard crates. Two crates of red and gold apples sit side by side, and a third crate heaped with red apples rests on their rims.

How it was made

The brief given to 1DesignTool's “3D object” template:

Crates for the Autumn Orchard kit. Design it as one clear asset at believable real-world scale for that setting (state the size in metres in meta.notes), with its main parts modelled and named, readable at thumbnail size and from every orbit angle. This is one part of the Autumn Orchard kit (Low-poly style, flat-lowpoly direction): Harvest time on a small farm. Use ONLY the kit palette, by name: russet #988e81, apple red #c32222, gold #d0a225, cream #f1e7d0, russet dark #70685c, apple red dark #821717, russet light #b6b3af, apple red light #db5757, soot black #1b1b22, warm white #f2ede2, mid grey #7d828c, dark wood #3d2a1c. Every material's `name` must be exactly the palette colour it uses — the GLB carries these names so the kit recolours as one; an unnamed material fails delivery. Kit knob: expose a param `season` (0–1, default 0.5) for the kit's "Season" setting wherever it makes sense on this part, and keep that id.

Note: Size: 1.03 m wide (x) × 0.38 m deep (z) × 0.66 m tall (to the top apple stems) at the defaults. Each crate is 0.50 × 0.33 × 0.30 m, a standard orchard picking-crate size. The two bottom crates stand 2 cm apart, and the top crate rests on their rims, turned 4° so the stack looks hand-placed. The origin is at the bottom centre, resting on y = 0, and the front (long side) faces +Z. The GLB has 4,968 triangles in 20 meshes and no animation clip. Normals are baked flat (non-indexed). Each material is named exactly after a kit palette colour. The exporter writes one material per mesh, so names repeat; recolour by name. Apples are about 7.5 cm across. Apples in the bottom crates stay below the rim so the stack is physically plausible. Only the uncovered crate is heaped. Each crate has a hidden russet-dark liner under its fruit, which shows as dark shadow between the slats. season (the kit's 'Season', 0 = late summer, 1 = late autumn) shifts the red apples from apple red light through apple red to apple red dark. stack sets 1, 2 or 3 crates; with 1 crate only the crate_left/fruit_left ids exist, and that crate is centred. fill raises the fruit liner and adds heap layers to uncovered crates; below 0.05 the crates are empty. crateLength sets the length of every crate (0.4–0.6 m). Params are baked into the GLB at their defaults and only change the geometry when the scene is rebuilt in the viewer. Only the defaults were rendered and checked. glb-lint: 0 errors and 4 heuristic warnings, all expected: more than 10 materials and duplicate names (one material per mesh), non-indexed flat shading, and overlapping sibling boxes (liner, battens and slats nest inside each crate by design). plan-check passes except for its part-id regex, which rejects the hyphens in the slug-based ids this library requires; the same plan with the slug de-hyphenated passes. three-check accepts those ids, and all 7 survive the GLB reload. Fix round 1: the hero and back views were loosened (margin 0.8 to 0.98) because the front crate was cropped at the bottom of the frame.

About the Crates 3D model

Crates is a free low-poly 3D model from the Autumn Orchard set. It measures 1.0 m × 66 cm × 38 cm (W × H × D) at real-world scale and is built from 4,968 triangles across 20 meshes, with 7 named parts. Download the 368 KB GLB and drop it into three.js, React Three Fiber, Godot or Blender — free for commercial use, no attribution required.

Is the Crates 3D model free for commercial use?
Yes. It is free under the 1DesignTool 3D library license: use it in personal and commercial work — games, apps, websites, renders, ads and client projects — and modify it as you like, with no credit required. What you can't do is re-sell or re-distribute the file on its own or inside a model pack.
What file format is it, and how big is it?
A single binary glTF 2.0 file (.glb), 368 KB: 4,968 triangles, 14,904 vertices and 20 materials, modelled in metres at 1.0 m × 66 cm × 38 cm.
Can I animate Crates?
It ships as a static mesh. Its 7 named parts are separate nodes, so you can move or animate each one in your engine.
Which engines and tools can open it?
Anything that reads glTF 2.0. three.js, React Three Fiber, Babylon.js, Godot 4 and Blender import the GLB directly; Unity and Unreal Engine load it through their glTF importers. The snippets above show the exact code for three.js, React Three Fiber, Godot and Blender.
How was the Crates 3D model made?
Claude Code (Claude Opus 5.5) generated it inside 1DesignTool's 3D template from a written brief, then the design kit's checks verified the geometry and the GLB before it was published. You can make your own the same way with 1DesignTool.
