Research hut

A low-poly polar research hut for the Arctic Tundra kit: an ice-blue insulated-panel cabin on braced steel stilts, with a snow-capped gable roof, a green door off a grated landing and stair, a weather mast with anemometer and wind vane, a stovepipe, a wall solar panel and two fuel drums.

How it was made

The brief given to 1DesignTool's “3D object” template:

Research hut for the Arctic Tundra kit. Design it as one clear asset at believable real-world scale for that setting (state the size in metres in meta.notes), with its main parts modelled and named, readable at thumbnail size and from every orbit angle. This is one part of the Arctic Tundra kit (Low-poly style, flat-lowpoly direction): Ice, wind and long light. Use ONLY the kit palette, by name: ice blue #2e67b8, white #f4f1ec, slate #525e6f, aurora green #3a883a, ice blue dark #1f457a, white dark #d7cebc, ice blue light #6190d1, white light #f9f8f6, soot black #1b1b22, warm white #f2ede2, mid grey #7d828c, dark wood #3d2a1c. Every material's `name` must be exactly the palette colour it uses — the GLB carries these names so the kit recolours as one; an unnamed material fails delivery. Kit knob: expose a param `snowDepth` (0–1, default 0.5) for the kit's "Snow depth" setting wherever it makes sense on this part, and keep that id.

Note: Size: the cabin is 5.0 × 3.0 m in plan with 2.3 m walls, standing on 0.9 m steel stilts. The roof eaves cover 5.5 × 3.64 m, the snow-capped ridge is about 4.1 m above the ground and the weather-mast antenna tops out at 6.85 m. The whole footprint, including the stair, landing, solar panel and drifts, is 6.4 × 5.3 m. The origin is at the bottom centre of that footprint, the model rests on y = 0 and the door faces +Z. The GLB has 2,196 triangles in 31 meshes, is static and carries no animation clip; three-check's 2,486-triangle figure includes the viewer's staging ground, which is not exported. Every material is named exactly after a kit palette colour (10 of the 12 are used; white light and dark wood are not). The exporter writes one material per mesh, so a colour name appears on several materials: recolour by name. snowDepth (the kit's 'Snow depth') thickens the roof snow cap (3 to 35 cm) and the window-sill snow, and heaps the drifts under the back and at the +X end (up to 0.67 m, staying below the floor). hutLength adds a fourth stilt pair above 5.6 m. stiltHeight lifts the cabin, and the stair gains steps to match. roofPitch sets the roof slope and ridge height. Params are baked into the GLB at their defaults and only change geometry when the scene is rebuilt in the viewer; only the defaults were rendered and checked. The pale disc in the preview is viewer staging and is not in the GLB. glb-lint: 0 errors and 5 expected warnings: duplicate same-named materials from the per-mesh export, non-indexed geometry (deliberate hard flat-shaded facets), nested sibling boxes (trim on panels, rails on the landing) and a 6.85 m height against the direction's 1 m reference height. plan-check rejects only the hyphenated library part ids, because its regex allows no hyphen; the same plan with the slug de-hyphenated passes. three-check and the GLB reload keep all 12 ids. Two three-check runs failed with page.goto timeouts while the machine was heavily loaded; the captures in those runs were fine, and a re-run with no changes passed.

About the Research hut 3D model

Research hut is a free low-poly 3D model from the Arctic Tundra set. It measures 6.4 m × 6.9 m × 5.3 m (W × H × D) at real-world scale and is built from 2,196 triangles across 31 meshes, with 12 named parts. Download the 181 KB GLB and drop it into three.js, React Three Fiber, Godot or Blender — free for commercial use, no attribution required.

Is the Research hut 3D model free for commercial use?
Yes. It is free under the 1DesignTool 3D library license: use it in personal and commercial work — games, apps, websites, renders, ads and client projects — and modify it as you like, with no credit required. What you can't do is re-sell or re-distribute the file on its own or inside a model pack.
What file format is it, and how big is it?
A single binary glTF 2.0 file (.glb), 181 KB: 2,196 triangles, 6,588 vertices and 31 materials, modelled in metres at 6.4 m × 6.9 m × 5.3 m.
Can I animate Research hut?
It ships as a static mesh. Its 12 named parts are separate nodes, so you can move or animate each one in your engine.
Which engines and tools can open it?
Anything that reads glTF 2.0. three.js, React Three Fiber, Babylon.js, Godot 4 and Blender import the GLB directly; Unity and Unreal Engine load it through their glTF importers. The snippets above show the exact code for three.js, React Three Fiber, Godot and Blender.
How was the Research hut 3D model made?
Claude Code (Claude Opus 5.5) generated it inside 1DesignTool's 3D template from a written brief, then the design kit's checks verified the geometry and the GLB before it was published. You can make your own the same way with 1DesignTool.
