Aurora ribbon
A low-poly kinetic sculpture of the northern lights: 22 twisted vanes banded aurora green and ice blue stand on swivels along a snow-capped slate plinth and turn in a travelling wave, so the curtain ripples in a seamless 8-second loop.

The brief given to 1DesignTool's “3D object” template:
Aurora ribbon for the Arctic Tundra kit. Design it as one clear asset at believable real-world scale for that setting (state the size in metres in meta.notes), with its main parts modelled and named, readable at thumbnail size and from every orbit angle. It moves: author a seamless baked loop (2–12 s) with every pivot exactly at its hinge, axle or swivel, and keep the base still. This is one part of the Arctic Tundra kit (Low-poly style, flat-lowpoly direction): Ice, wind and long light. Use ONLY the kit palette, by name: ice blue #2e67b8, white #f4f1ec, slate #525e6f, aurora green #3a883a, ice blue dark #1f457a, white dark #d7cebc, ice blue light #6190d1, white light #f9f8f6, soot black #1b1b22, warm white #f2ede2, mid grey #7d828c, dark wood #3d2a1c. Every material's `name` must be exactly the palette colour it uses — the GLB carries these names so the kit recolours as one; an unnamed material fails delivery. Kit knob: expose a param `snowDepth` (0–1, default 0.5) for the kit's "Snow depth" setting wherever it makes sense on this part, and keep that id.

Note: Size: a sculptural aurora prop, about 6.4 m long by 2.5 m deep, with vanes up to 3.69 m tall on a 0.3 m slate plinth that bends in an S in plan. It is authored at human scale as a set piece; scale it up if you want a sky-scale aurora on a horizon. The origin is the bottom centre on y = 0, and the front faces +Z. Rig: the plinth and snow are the still base. Each of the 22 vanes is its own node, pivoted exactly on its swivel at the plinth top (y = 0.3), and carries its collar, post and blade. The 8 s clip ('scene-motion') yaws each vane ±0.5 rad about +Y, with the phase travelling 1.5 wavelengths along the row. It is seamless, and vanes are always narrower than their spacing, so neighbours never touch. The static node pose in the GLB is the t = 2 s pose, because the checker exports after its determinism seek. The GLB has 3,532 triangles in 91 meshes (merged per part and colour) and uses 7 of the 12 kit colours. Normals are baked flat (non-indexed). Every material is named exactly after its palette colour. The exporter writes one material per mesh, so names repeat: recolour by name. Params are baked at their defaults and only change geometry when the scene is rebuilt in the viewer. snowDepth (the kit's 'Snow depth') thickens and widens the plinth's snow cap and grows the foot drifts. vaneCount (12–30) and ribbonHeight rebuild the curtain; even at 30 vanes and 4.5 m the model stays well under 9,000 triangles. sway sets the clip amplitude. The grey ground disc in the preview is viewer staging only and is not in the GLB. glb-lint: 0 errors. Its warnings are expected: material count and duplicates come from per-mesh materials, unindexed geometry is deliberate flat shading, 'detached' blade bands sit on their posts inside one vane node, and the scale warning is just a 3.7 m subject compared with a 1 m reference. plan-check passes on a copy with the slug de-hyphenated, because its part-id regex rejects the hyphenated ids this library requires. three-check accepts the ids, and all 25 survive the GLB reload. Fix round 1 widened the vanes into a near-continuous sheet with chisel tips and a two-crest wave, deepened the S-bend, narrowed the snow cap so the slate shows, and dropped a hem colour band to stay under the 100 draw-call budget.
About the Aurora ribbon 3D model
Aurora ribbon is a free animated low-poly 3D model from the Arctic Tundra set. It measures 6.6 m × 3.7 m × 2.8 m (W × H × D) at real-world scale and is built from 3,532 triangles across 91 meshes, with 25 named parts and a baked animation (8.0 s). Download the 439 KB GLB and drop it into three.js, React Three Fiber, Godot or Blender — free for commercial use, no attribution required.
- Is the Aurora ribbon 3D model free for commercial use?
- Yes. It is free under the 1DesignTool 3D library license: use it in personal and commercial work — games, apps, websites, renders, ads and client projects — and modify it as you like, with no credit required. What you can't do is re-sell or re-distribute the file on its own or inside a model pack.
- What file format is it, and how big is it?
- A single binary glTF 2.0 file (.glb), 439 KB: 3,532 triangles, 10,596 vertices and 91 materials, modelled in metres at 6.6 m × 3.7 m × 2.8 m.
- Is Aurora ribbon animated?
- Yes — the GLB carries a baked animation (8.0 s), ready to play with any glTF animation mixer.
- Which engines and tools can open it?
- Anything that reads glTF 2.0. three.js, React Three Fiber, Babylon.js, Godot 4 and Blender import the GLB directly; Unity and Unreal Engine load it through their glTF importers. The snippets above show the exact code for three.js, React Three Fiber, Godot and Blender.
- How was the Aurora ribbon 3D model made?
- Claude Code (Claude Opus 5.5) generated it inside 1DesignTool's 3D template from a written brief, then the design kit's checks verified the geometry and the GLB before it was published. You can make your own the same way with 1DesignTool.
