Fuel drums

A low-poly polar-camp fuel cache: three banded 200-litre steel drums (one fitted with a hand pump) standing on a timber pallet, with a fourth drum lying chocked on its side in front, snow capping the lids and drifted against the pallet.

How it was made

The brief given to 1DesignTool's “3D object” template:

Fuel drums for the Arctic Tundra kit. Design it as one clear asset at believable real-world scale for that setting (state the size in metres in meta.notes), with its main parts modelled and named, readable at thumbnail size and from every orbit angle. This is one part of the Arctic Tundra kit (Low-poly style, flat-lowpoly direction): Ice, wind and long light. Use ONLY the kit palette, by name: ice blue #2e67b8, white #f4f1ec, slate #525e6f, aurora green #3a883a, ice blue dark #1f457a, white dark #d7cebc, ice blue light #6190d1, white light #f9f8f6, soot black #1b1b22, warm white #f2ede2, mid grey #7d828c, dark wood #3d2a1c. Every material's `name` must be exactly the palette colour it uses — the GLB carries these names so the kit recolours as one; an unnamed material fails delivery. Kit knob: expose a param `snowDepth` (0–1, default 0.5) for the kit's "Snow depth" setting wherever it makes sense on this part, and keep that id.

Note: Size: drums are 0.58 m across and 0.88 m tall (200-litre / 55-gallon) on a 1.25 × 1.25 m pallet 0.144 m high. The whole cache, drifts included, is about 1.7 m wide × 2.1 m deep and 1.71 m tall to the hand-pump crank (the drum tops are at 1.02 m). The origin is at the bottom centre of the cluster's bounds on y = 0, and the lying drum is at the front (+Z). The GLB has 2,452 triangles in 69 meshes, is static, and carries no animation clip; three-check's 2,742 figure includes the viewer's staging ground, which is not exported. Normals are baked flat (non-indexed geometry). Every material is named exactly after a kit palette colour: 11 of the 12 are used and white light is not. The exporter writes one material per mesh, so a colour name appears on several materials: recolour by name. snowDepth (the kit's 'Snow depth') raises the lid caps (2–10 cm above the lid), thickens the ridge along the lying drum and grows the wind drifts banked behind and left of the pallet; at 0, all snow is removed. uprightCount fills the pallet back-left, back-right, front-right, front-left (the fourth is an ice-blue-dark drum). lyingDrum toggles the chocked drum in front. The GLB is baked at default params; the params only change geometry when the scene is rebuilt in the viewer, and only the defaults were rendered and checked. The drifts are white like the viewer's pale staging disc, so they show less in the preview than on a darker ground. glb-lint: 0 errors and 5 expected warnings: material count above the direction default (per-mesh materials), duplicate-named materials, non-indexed primitives (intended flat normals), nested hoops and bands on the drum shells, and the snow ridge flagged as detached because it rests on the lying drum in another group. plan-check passes except for its part-id regex, which rejects the hyphens in the slug-based ids this library requires; the same plan with the slug de-hyphenated passes. Two earlier three-check runs failed only on a page.goto timeout while the machine was overloaded (load average ~75); the final run passed all 24 checks. The single fix round was visual: the snow on the lying drum went from a flat plank to a tapered ridge.

About the Fuel drums 3D model

Fuel drums is a free low-poly 3D model from the Arctic Tundra set. It measures 1.7 m × 1.7 m × 2.2 m (W × H × D) at real-world scale and is built from 2,452 triangles across 69 meshes, with 9 named parts. Download the 305 KB GLB and drop it into three.js, React Three Fiber, Godot or Blender — free for commercial use, no attribution required.

Is the Fuel drums 3D model free for commercial use?
Yes. It is free under the 1DesignTool 3D library license: use it in personal and commercial work — games, apps, websites, renders, ads and client projects — and modify it as you like, with no credit required. What you can't do is re-sell or re-distribute the file on its own or inside a model pack.
What file format is it, and how big is it?
A single binary glTF 2.0 file (.glb), 305 KB: 2,452 triangles, 7,356 vertices and 69 materials, modelled in metres at 1.7 m × 1.7 m × 2.2 m.
Can I animate Fuel drums?
It ships as a static mesh. Its 9 named parts are separate nodes, so you can move or animate each one in your engine.
Which engines and tools can open it?
Anything that reads glTF 2.0. three.js, React Three Fiber, Babylon.js, Godot 4 and Blender import the GLB directly; Unity and Unreal Engine load it through their glTF importers. The snippets above show the exact code for three.js, React Three Fiber, Godot and Blender.
How was the Fuel drums 3D model made?
Claude Code (Claude Opus 5.5) generated it inside 1DesignTool's 3D template from a written brief, then the design kit's checks verified the geometry and the GLB before it was published. You can make your own the same way with 1DesignTool.
