Airlock hatch

A low-poly round pressure hatch for a sea-floor research base: a yellow door on a side hinge set in a thick deep-blue collar on a plinth, with a locking wheel, swing-out locking dogs, a porthole and a status lamp. It plays a seamless 8-second loop: the wheel unlocks, the dogs fold in, the door swings open and closes again, then everything locks.

How it was made

The brief given to 1DesignTool's “3D object” template:

Airlock hatch for the Underwater Research Dome kit. Design it as one clear asset at believable real-world scale for that setting (state the size in metres in meta.notes), with its main parts modelled and named, readable at thumbnail size and from every orbit angle. It moves: author a seamless baked loop (2–12 s) with every pivot exactly at its hinge, axle or swivel, and keep the base still. This is one part of the Underwater Research Dome kit (Low-poly style, flat-lowpoly direction): A science base on the sea floor. Use ONLY the kit palette, by name: deep blue #1b447e, aqua #47d1d1, yellow #eecd2b, white #f4f1ec, deep blue dark #0d223f, aqua dark #29a3a3, deep blue light #2e67b8, aqua light #88dddd, soot black #1b1b22, warm white #f2ede2, mid grey #7d828c, dark wood #3d2a1c. Every material's `name` must be exactly the palette colour it uses — the GLB carries these names so the kit recolours as one; an unnamed material fails delivery. Kit knob: expose a param `depthAndLight` (0–1, default 0.5) for the kit's "Depth and light" setting wherever it makes sense on this part, and keep that id.

Note: Size: 2.24 m wide (plinth), 2.36 m tall to the top of the status lamp, 1.0 m deep (plinth); the clear opening is about 1.25 m across. Origin at bottom centre, plinth on y = 0, door faces +Z and hinges on the -X side. 1532 triangles. Every material is named after its kit palette colour (9 colours; white, aqua and dark wood unused). The exporter writes one material per mesh, so the same colour name appears on several materials; recolour by name. The baked clip scene-motion (8 s, seamless, starts and ends closed and locked) moves only the locking wheel (one through-axle, wheels on both faces), the six locking dogs (each on its own swivel pin) and the door (on the hinge pin axis). Plinth, collar, gasket, hinge pin and lamp never move. Params are baked into the GLB at their default values: depthAndLight sets the emissive glow of the status lamp and porthole; openAngle, dogCount and frameDepth change the geometry or the clip only when the scene is rebuilt. glb-lint: 0 errors, 6 heuristic warnings (material count above the direction default because of one material per mesh, non-indexed flat-shaded geometry, intended overlaps such as the pin inside its knuckles, and parts flagged as 'detached' that are seated on parts in other groups). The kit's plan-check rejects hyphens in part ids, so design-plan.md fails plan-check only on the hyphenated library ids that this brief requires; everything else in the plan passes.

About the Airlock hatch 3D model

Airlock hatch is a free animated low-poly 3D model from the Underwater Research Dome set. It measures 2.2 m × 2.4 m × 1.0 m (W × H × D) at real-world scale and is built from 1,532 triangles across 20 meshes, with 16 named parts and a baked animation (8.0 s). Download the 167 KB GLB and drop it into three.js, React Three Fiber, Godot or Blender — free for commercial use, no attribution required.

Is the Airlock hatch 3D model free for commercial use?
Yes. It is free under the 1DesignTool 3D library license: use it in personal and commercial work — games, apps, websites, renders, ads and client projects — and modify it as you like, with no credit required. What you can't do is re-sell or re-distribute the file on its own or inside a model pack.
What file format is it, and how big is it?
A single binary glTF 2.0 file (.glb), 167 KB: 1,532 triangles, 3,548 vertices and 20 materials, modelled in metres at 2.2 m × 2.4 m × 1.0 m.
Is Airlock hatch animated?
Yes — the GLB carries a baked animation (8.0 s), ready to play with any glTF animation mixer.
Which engines and tools can open it?
Anything that reads glTF 2.0. three.js, React Three Fiber, Babylon.js, Godot 4 and Blender import the GLB directly; Unity and Unreal Engine load it through their glTF importers. The snippets above show the exact code for three.js, React Three Fiber, Godot and Blender.
How was the Airlock hatch 3D model made?
Claude Code (Claude Opus 5.5) generated it inside 1DesignTool's 3D template from a written brief, then the design kit's checks verified the geometry and the GLB before it was published. You can make your own the same way with 1DesignTool.
