Ice box

A low-poly 1950s roadside ice chest: a cherry red insulated chest with a warm white band on a chrome stand with a dark wood crate shelf. It has a hinged lid with a front grip, a bottle opener and cap catcher, side carry handles, a drain spout, and a liner packed with ice.

How it was made

The brief given to 1DesignTool's “3D object” template:

Ice box for the Roadside Diner kit. Design it as one clear asset at believable real-world scale for that setting (state the size in metres in meta.notes), with its main parts modelled and named, readable at thumbnail size and from every orbit angle. This is one part of the Roadside Diner kit (Low-poly style, flat-lowpoly direction): A lonely stop on a long road. Use ONLY the kit palette, by name: chrome #cad1d8, cherry red #c32222, mint #90d5b3, desert tan #bf9769, chrome dark #9eabb7, cherry red dark #821717, chrome light #f7f7f8, cherry red light #db5757, soot black #1b1b22, warm white #f2ede2, mid grey #7d828c, dark wood #3d2a1c. Every material's `name` must be exactly the palette colour it uses — the GLB carries these names so the kit recolours as one; an unnamed material fails delivery. Kit knob: expose a param `era` (0–1, default 0.5) for the kit's "Era" setting wherever it makes sense on this part, and keep that id.

Note: Size: 0.88 m tall. The chest is 1.00 m wide (x) and 0.56 m deep (z). Overall, including the side handles and drain spout, it is 1.16 m wide, and with the lid grip and cap catcher it is 0.68 m deep. The front faces +Z, and the origin is at the bottom centre, resting on y = 0. The exported model has 1,432 triangles in 18 meshes (merged per part and colour) and no animation clip. Normals are baked flat (non-indexed). 9 of the 12 kit colours are used; desert tan, cherry red light and mid grey are not. Every material is named exactly after its palette colour. The exporter writes one material per mesh, so the same colour name can appear on several materials: recolour by name. There is no text or lettering, and the emblem plates are blank. The ice inside is modelled and shows when the lid is raised. Params are baked into the GLB at their defaults (lid closed) and only change geometry when the scene is rebuilt in the viewer. The lid is merged geometry, not a separate hinge node, so engines cannot open it without a rebuild. era (the kit's 'Era') runs from a tall-legged, heavily chamfered 1940s chest (era 0) to a lower, squarer 1960s chest with a wider band (era 1). width sets the chest length, and the stand, lid and emblem re-fit to it. lidOpen swings the lid up to about 100 degrees on its back hinges; an open lid was checked in a capture from the back. glb-lint: 0 errors and 4 heuristic warnings, including sibling overlap (legs, shelf, skirt and band are embedded on purpose); its verdict reads UNVERIFIED only because no requirements contract was supplied. plan-check passes except for its part-id regex, which rejects the hyphens this library's slug-based ids need; the same plan with the slug de-hyphenated passes. three-check accepts those ids, and all 6 survive the GLB reload.

About the Ice box 3D model

Ice box is a free low-poly 3D model from the Roadside Diner set. It measures 1.2 m × 88 cm × 68 cm (W × H × D) at real-world scale and is built from 1,432 triangles across 18 meshes, with 6 named parts. Download the 116 KB GLB and drop it into three.js, React Three Fiber, Godot or Blender — free for commercial use, no attribution required.

Is the Ice box 3D model free for commercial use?
Yes. It is free under the 1DesignTool 3D library license: use it in personal and commercial work — games, apps, websites, renders, ads and client projects — and modify it as you like, with no credit required. What you can't do is re-sell or re-distribute the file on its own or inside a model pack.
What file format is it, and how big is it?
A single binary glTF 2.0 file (.glb), 116 KB: 1,432 triangles, 4,296 vertices and 18 materials, modelled in metres at 1.2 m × 88 cm × 68 cm.
Can I animate Ice box?
It ships as a static mesh. Its 6 named parts are separate nodes, so you can move or animate each one in your engine.
Which engines and tools can open it?
Anything that reads glTF 2.0. three.js, React Three Fiber, Babylon.js, Godot 4 and Blender import the GLB directly; Unity and Unreal Engine load it through their glTF importers. The snippets above show the exact code for three.js, React Three Fiber, Godot and Blender.
How was the Ice box 3D model made?
Claude Code (Claude Opus 5.5) generated it inside 1DesignTool's 3D template from a written brief, then the design kit's checks verified the geometry and the GLB before it was published. You can make your own the same way with 1DesignTool.
