Ammo crates

A low-poly pallet of mech-scale ammo crates for a robot repair bay: two closed steel-cornered crates with yellow strap bands and hazard diamonds, and a third stacked on top with its lid open on a row of large cannon shells in wooden cradles.

How it was made

The brief given to 1DesignTool's “3D object” template:

Ammo crates for the Mech Hangar kit. Design it as one clear asset at believable real-world scale for that setting (state the size in metres in meta.notes), with its main parts modelled and named, readable at thumbnail size and from every orbit angle. This is one part of the Mech Hangar kit (Low-poly style, flat-lowpoly direction): A bay where giant robots are repaired. Use ONLY the kit palette, by name: steel grey #757e8a, safety yellow #ffdd33, navy #1c2a54, red #c32222, steel grey dark #525860, safety yellow dark #e6bf00, steel grey light #a3a5a8, safety yellow light #ffea80, soot black #1b1b22, warm white #f2ede2, mid grey #7d828c, dark wood #3d2a1c. Every material's `name` must be exactly the palette colour it uses — the GLB carries these names so the kit recolours as one; an unnamed material fails delivery. Kit knob: expose a param `mechColourAndLoadout` (0–1, default 0.5) for the kit's "Mech colour and loadout" setting wherever it makes sense on this part, and keep that id.

Note: Real-world size at defaults: 1.34 m wide x 1.50 m tall (top of the open lid; the closed stack is about 1.04 m) x 1.10 m deep. Each crate is 1.2 x 0.5 x 0.45 m and each shell is about 0.11 m across and 0.86 m long, a mech-cannon round. The pallet is 0.134 m high. Origin is bottom-centre, the pallet rests on y = 0 and the hazard diamonds face +Z (the back crate is turned round, so a diamond also faces -Z). Part ids use the sanitized slug 'mechhangarammocrates' because the kit's plan validator does not allow hyphens in ids, matching the other Mech Hangar assets. mechColourAndLoadout sets the crate colour (navy below 0.33, red up to 0.67, warm white above) and how many shells sit in the open crate's 4 cradle slots (2 to 4; 3 at the default). crateLength stretches the crates, pallet and shells together. lidOpen swings the top crate's lid from closed (0) to about 110 degrees (1). 2,460 triangles in the GLB at defaults. Static asset, so the GLB has no animation clips. The GLB has 41 material slots that are per-mesh copies of 9 palette materials, each named exactly after its palette colour, so recolouring by name still works. glb-lint found no errors. Its 3 heuristic warnings are expected: the material copies, and crates that rest on the pallet and the lids below instead of interpenetrating them.
