Blast doors

A heavy low-poly sci-fi blast door from an abandoned space station. Two interlocking toothed leaves grind open on failing power inside a hazard-striped frame, driven by gears on the header and topped by a spinning warning beacon.

How it was made

The brief given to 1DesignTool's “3D object” template:

Blast doors for the Derelict Space Station kit. Design it as one clear asset at believable real-world scale for that setting (state the size in metres in meta.notes), with its main parts modelled and named, readable at thumbnail size and from every orbit angle. It moves: author a seamless baked loop (2–12 s) with every pivot exactly at its hinge, axle or swivel, and keep the base still. This is one part of the Derelict Space Station kit (Low-poly style, flat-lowpoly direction): An abandoned station with failing power. Use ONLY the kit palette, by name: gunmetal #454d54, emergency red #c32222, pale green #79af79, black #151619, gunmetal dark #22262a, emergency red dark #821717, gunmetal light #6d7378, emergency red light #db5757, soot black #1b1b22, warm white #f2ede2, mid grey #7d828c, dark wood #3d2a1c. Every material's `name` must be exactly the palette colour it uses — the GLB carries these names so the kit recolours as one; an unnamed material fails delivery. Kit knob: expose a param `powerState` (0–1, default 0.5) for the kit's "Power state" setting wherever it makes sense on this part, and keep that id.

Note: Size: 5.44 m wide (sill; the frame is 5.28 m) x 3.99 m tall (to the beacon cap; the frame top is 3.56 m) x 1.62 m deep, with a 2.2 m x 2.5 m clear opening at the defaults. The origin is at the bottom centre, the sill underside rests on y = 0, and the front faces +Z. The back is fully modelled (trim, gears, status lamp and vents). The 8 s clip 'scene-motion' loops seamlessly. The leaves start stuck ajar, grind open in two stalls, hold, slam shut with a small rebound and then creak back ajar. Each leaf slides along X only, with its pivot on the track at the seam line. Each gear rotates about its axle centre by leaf travel divided by its pitch radius (rack and pinion). The beacon head spins about its vertical swivel axis a whole number of turns per loop. The frame, sill, panel and conduit never move. powerState (the kit's Power state) sets how far the leaves open (25% to 100% of full retraction) and the beacon turns per loop (1 to 4). It also sets the power lamp colour, pale green at 0.5 and above and emergency red light below, and the glow strength. powerState, openingWidth, openingHeight and teeth are build-time knobs; the GLB is a bake of the default values. Glow is the material's emissive factor, so it survives in the GLB. Every material is named exactly after its palette colour (10 distinct). The exporter clones a material per mesh, so the GLB lists 40 material entries sharing those 10 names. Meshes are merged by colour inside each part (40 draw calls, 3132 triangles). Part ids use the root 'derelictspacestationblastdoors' because the kit's part-id validator does not allow hyphens. glb-lint reports 0 errors and 4 warnings: the material-count and duplicate-material warnings from that cloning, sibling overlap from merged per-colour meshes sharing a part's bounds, and the expected-1 m scale check against a 4 m structure. Its overall verdict reads UNVERIFIED only because no requirements contract was supplied.
