Flickering lights

A portable emergency light mast from an abandoned station: a hazard-striped battery plinth carries a T-mast hung with two wire-guarded twin-tube strip lights. Their tubes stutter on and off with failing power, and one fixture has snapped a hanger and swings from its last swivel.

How it was made

The brief given to 1DesignTool's “3D object” template:

Flickering lights for the Derelict Space Station kit. Design it as one clear asset at believable real-world scale for that setting (state the size in metres in meta.notes), with its main parts modelled and named, readable at thumbnail size and from every orbit angle. It moves: author a seamless baked loop (2–12 s) with every pivot exactly at its hinge, axle or swivel, and keep the base still. This is one part of the Derelict Space Station kit (Low-poly style, flat-lowpoly direction): An abandoned station with failing power. Use ONLY the kit palette, by name: gunmetal #454d54, emergency red #c32222, pale green #79af79, black #151619, gunmetal dark #22262a, emergency red dark #821717, gunmetal light #6d7378, emergency red light #db5757, soot black #1b1b22, warm white #f2ede2, mid grey #7d828c, dark wood #3d2a1c. Every material's `name` must be exactly the palette colour it uses — the GLB carries these names so the kit recolours as one; an unnamed material fails delivery. Kit knob: expose a param `powerState` (0–1, default 0.5) for the kit's "Power state" setting wherever it makes sense on this part, and keep that id.

Note: Stands 1.71 m tall on a 0.66 x 0.50 m plinth; the cross-arm is 1.64 m wide and the battens are 0.72 m long. 1500 triangles. A seamless 6 s loop is baked into the GLB as rigid node animation: the broken batten swings about its ball swivel (the pivot sits exactly at the swivel centre), and each tube flickers via a scale track that shrinks its warm-white emissive core inside a dark sleeve, so the flicker survives in any glTF viewer without material animation. The status lamp blinks the same way. The plinth, mast and arm never move. powerState sets how many green gauge cells are lit and how often the tubes are on (0 = dead, 1 = steady); it, flickerSeed and swingAmount are baked into the clip at export time. The exporter clones materials per mesh, so the GLB has many material slots that share the 11 palette names — recolour by material name. Part ids drop the hyphens (the id format allows none); the library slug keeps them. dark wood is not used.
