Lockers

A low-poly bank of three tall crew lockers from a derelict space station, with louvred steel doors, a red hazard-banded kick plinth and a header light strip. One door has popped open on a failed lock, showing a shelf, a coat hook and a red crew helmet left behind.

How it was made

The brief given to 1DesignTool's “3D object” template:

Lockers for the Derelict Space Station kit. Design it as one clear asset at believable real-world scale for that setting (state the size in metres in meta.notes), with its main parts modelled and named, readable at thumbnail size and from every orbit angle. This is one part of the Derelict Space Station kit (Low-poly style, flat-lowpoly direction): An abandoned station with failing power. Use ONLY the kit palette, by name: gunmetal #454d54, emergency red #c32222, pale green #79af79, black #151619, gunmetal dark #22262a, emergency red dark #821717, gunmetal light #6d7378, emergency red light #db5757, soot black #1b1b22, warm white #f2ede2, mid grey #7d828c, dark wood #3d2a1c. Every material's `name` must be exactly the palette colour it uses — the GLB carries these names so the kit recolours as one; an unnamed material fails delivery. Kit knob: expose a param `powerState` (0–1, default 0.5) for the kit's "Power state" setting wherever it makes sense on this part, and keep that id.

Note: Real scale: 1.98 m tall (1.90 m carcass on a 0.10 m kick plinth, plus a 0.08 m header), 1.28 m wide (1.34 m including the side conduit) and 0.50 m deep (about 0.56 m including handles and back ribs) for the default three lockers. Each bay is 0.40 m wide inside, and the handles sit at 1.05 m. Origin is at the bottom centre and the front faces +Z. 1,144 triangles in the exported GLB, built from 10 palette colours: every material is named exactly after its kit palette colour. Shading is flat, with faceted normals baked into the mesh. The GLB is exported at the defaults: powerState 0.5, lockerCount 3, doorOpen 0.6 (about 63° on locker 2 hinge, max about 100°). powerState sets how many status lamps are pale green (locked) and how many are red (fault): round(power × count) stay green, and the open locker is the first to turn red. It also dims the emissive glow on the green lamps and the warm-white header strip and ID plates, while the red lamps grow brighter as power fails. Because the strip base colour is warm white, it still reads as white at power 0. All three params are build-time: rebuild in the viewer and re-export to change them. A downloaded GLB keeps the values it was exported with. The model is static, with no animation clip. The kit runtime clones materials per mesh on export, so the GLB holds 37 material slots that share these 10 palette names. Recolouring by name still works. glb-lint reports 0 errors and 4 heuristic warnings, all intended: material count/duplicates (the per-mesh clones), non-indexed geometry for flat facets, and sibling overlap from louvres, handles and hinges seated slightly into their panels. Only the root is declared in the design plan as lockers, because the kit plan-checker does not accept hyphens in part ids. Sub-parts use the library slug ids.
