Drifting crates

A low-poly mag-clamp cargo pallet with one crate still clamped down and three framed cargo crates drifting above it on taut tethers, slowly turning in zero-g as the station's power fails. Ships with a seamless 8-second baked drift loop.

How it was made

The brief given to 1DesignTool's “3D object” template:

Drifting crates for the Derelict Space Station kit. Design it as one clear asset at believable real-world scale for that setting (state the size in metres in meta.notes), with its main parts modelled and named, readable at thumbnail size and from every orbit angle. It moves: author a seamless baked loop (2–12 s) with every pivot exactly at its hinge, axle or swivel, and keep the base still. This is one part of the Derelict Space Station kit (Low-poly style, flat-lowpoly direction): An abandoned station with failing power. Use ONLY the kit palette, by name: gunmetal #454d54, emergency red #c32222, pale green #79af79, black #151619, gunmetal dark #22262a, emergency red dark #821717, gunmetal light #6d7378, emergency red light #db5757, soot black #1b1b22, warm white #f2ede2, mid grey #7d828c, dark wood #3d2a1c. Every material's `name` must be exactly the palette colour it uses — the GLB carries these names so the kit recolours as one; an unnamed material fails delivery. Kit knob: expose a param `powerState` (0–1, default 0.5) for the kit's "Power state" setting wherever it makes sense on this part, and keep that id.

Note: Real-world scale: the pallet is 1.8 m × 1.3 m × 0.19 m, the clamped base crate 0.95 × 0.62 × 0.72 m, and the drifting crates (0.62 m cube, 0.85 m long, 0.38 m small) hang on tethers. The whole asset is about 1.9 m tall at default settings. Origin is at the bottom centre, +Y up, front faces +Z. Each GLB material is named exactly after its kit palette colour (gunmetal, gunmetal dark, gunmetal light, emergency red, emergency red dark, emergency red light, pale green, soot black, warm white, mid grey), so the kit can recolour everything as one set. The baked 'scene-motion' clip loops seamlessly over 8 s. Each tether rotates at its anchor eye ring, each crate rotates at its own eyebolt ring at the end of its cable, and the pallet, base crate, anchors and beacon stay still. The exported GLB is the default build: powerState 0.5 (3 of 5 power cells lit, mid tether reach), driftAmount 0.6, three crates. Params are rebuild-time knobs in the viewer. powerState changes how many cells are lit (they turn red below 0.35), how far the tethers reach (lower power lets crates drift further) and how strongly the crates sway; driftAmount scales sway and tumble; crateCount drops crates C and B. A scripted sweep at the param extremes found no crate-to-crate intersections. Part ids use a short 'driftingcrates' root because the kit's id format does not allow hyphens. 2,436 triangles, no textures.
