Weather vanes

A low-poly rooftop weather vane for the Cloud Kingdom: a wrought-iron post on an octagonal mounting plate, a four-arm cardinal cross with gold diamond tips, and a swivelling gold-headed arrow whose tail is a faceted white cloud carrying a tiny three-tower castle with sky-blue roofs.

How it was made

The brief given to 1DesignTool's “3D object” template:

Weather vanes for the Cloud Kingdom kit. Design it as one clear asset at believable real-world scale for that setting (state the size in metres in meta.notes), with its main parts modelled and named, readable at thumbnail size and from every orbit angle. This is one part of the Cloud Kingdom kit (Low-poly style, flat-lowpoly direction): Castles on clouds at sunrise. Use ONLY the kit palette, by name: cloud white #f4f1ec, peach #ecb893, sky blue #2e67b8, gold #d0a225, cloud white dark #d7cebc, peach dark #e08d52, cloud white light #f9f8f6, peach light #f6e3d5, soot black #1b1b22, warm white #f2ede2, mid grey #7d828c, dark wood #3d2a1c. Every material's `name` must be exactly the palette colour it uses — the GLB carries these names so the kit recolours as one; an unnamed material fails delivery. Kit knob: expose a param `timeOfDay` (0–1, default 0.5) for the kit's "Time of day" setting wherever it makes sense on this part, and keep that id.

Note: Real-world scale in metres: 0.97 m wide (arrow tip to cloud tail), 1.34 m tall (plate to castle finial), 0.63 m deep across the cardinal cross; the arrow pivot sits 1.0 m above the plate and the arrow spans 0.95 m. +Y up, the front faces +Z, the origin is the post axis at the bottom centre and the octagonal mounting plate rests exactly on y = 0 — set it on a roof ridge or turret cap. 948 triangles, 13 flat-shaded meshes, 19 nodes, no textures, no animation clip. Every material is named exactly after its Cloud Kingdom palette colour (soot black, gold, cloud white, cloud white light, sky blue); the runtime exporter writes one material copy per mesh, so the GLB holds 13 material entries sharing those 5 names (Blender may show suffixes like .001) — recolour by name. Geometry is non-indexed with face normals so the facets stay flat in any engine. Part ids use the root 'weathervane' instead of the slug because the kit's plan validator rejects hyphens in part ids. windHeading is a compass bearing (0 = north = -Z, 90 = east = +X, the default) and rotates only the 'weathervane.vane' pivot group, which sits on the post axis at the gold swivel ball; the delivered GLB carries the east-pointing rest pose. postHeight and arrowLength change geometry (the cloud-and-castle ornament scales with the arrow) and towers picks 1 to 3 castle towers; every param was rebuilt and captured at its extremes and the combined extremes with no collisions and the plate still on y = 0. timeOfDay only changes the viewer: it moves and tints the sun along a dawn-to-dusk arc (low warm east light at 0, high white light at 0.5, low warm west light at 1); nothing on an iron vane changes with the hour, so it is not baked into the GLB. There is no lettering on the cardinal cross (text is not allowed); the north arm carries a larger spear-point diamond instead. The dawn-sky gradient and shadow catcher in the preview are page chrome and viewer staging; neither is in the GLB. glb-lint's four warnings are heuristics: repeated material names (one material per mesh), non-indexed flat-shaded primitives, and two nested sibling boxes that are by design (the gold ring inside the base collar, the gold finials on the sky-blue roofs).
