Sun dials

A faceted low-poly garden sundial for the Cloud Kingdom: a round dial with a sky-blue rim and hour marks, and a gold triangular gnomon with a round sun window. It stands on an octagonal pedestal that rises from a stepped plinth ringed by cloud puffs.

How it was made

The brief given to 1DesignTool's “3D object” template:

Sun dials for the Cloud Kingdom kit. Design it as one clear asset at believable real-world scale for that setting (state the size in metres in meta.notes), with its main parts modelled and named, readable at thumbnail size and from every orbit angle. This is one part of the Cloud Kingdom kit (Low-poly style, flat-lowpoly direction): Castles on clouds at sunrise. Use ONLY the kit palette, by name: cloud white #f4f1ec, peach #ecb893, sky blue #2e67b8, gold #d0a225, cloud white dark #d7cebc, peach dark #e08d52, cloud white light #f9f8f6, peach light #f6e3d5, soot black #1b1b22, warm white #f2ede2, mid grey #7d828c, dark wood #3d2a1c. Every material's `name` must be exactly the palette colour it uses — the GLB carries these names so the kit recolours as one; an unnamed material fails delivery. Kit knob: expose a param `timeOfDay` (0–1, default 0.5) for the kit's "Time of day" setting wherever it makes sense on this part, and keep that id.

Note: Metres, +Y up, front faces +Z, origin at the bottom centre; the model measures 0.87 x 1.17 x 0.86 m (dial face 0.95 m above the ground, 0.56 m across) and rests exactly on y = 0. 1224 triangles, 12 flat-shaded meshes, no textures and no animation clip. Materials are named by Cloud Kingdom palette colour ("cloud white", "sky blue", "gold" ...) so the kit recolours on material name; each mesh also carries its semantic role in glTF extras. The GLB has one material per mesh (the runtime clones materials on export), but only the six palette names listed here are used. It is a working sundial: the gnomon angle equals the latitude param, and the hour marks (6:00 to 18:00) sit where the horizontal-dial formula puts them. Its north points along -X. timeOfDay only affects the viewer: it moves the sun along the equinox path from 7:00 (0) through noon (0.5) to 17:00 (1), so the gnomon's real shadow lands on the matching hour mark. At the default noon setting that shadow falls under the fin. No shadow is painted into the GLB, so it stays correct under any engine's light. latitude, dialDiameter and dialHeight change geometry and were checked at both combined extremes. Part ids use the root 'sundials' because the kit's part-id grammar does not allow hyphens. Subject only: no ground, cloud island, lights or cameras are inside the model root.
